Hey guys. I've pretty much settled on getting this mitsubishi tv: WD-62525 Unless, someone can talk me out of it.. The questions I have are that I have a crappy DVD player now, is there one I should be looking at? Do I need/want an HDMI dvd player? And what is this about upscaling? I...
Dan, One thing I hope that doesn't get overlooked is the person who pointed out "source material." Some of the titles you mentioned might suffer from poor dynamics. I don't own any of those specific titles, but sometimes you will find that the center channel isn't properly mixed or the source...
So there's been some talk about a thread Edward posted, kind of a home theater checklist. I went through, confident that I'd done everything right. I head over to avsforum and see that same topic posted again and take a look. This guy points out two things that were wrong in his. Oh, I couldn't...
I think what he meant by setting the delay, is that on almost all DD compatible receivers you can go in and set separate distances for the speakers in relation to your seated position. What is the center channel's height in relation to your seating position? I find that some crafty velcro...
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give the Cave troll and inside the whale a run. Don't own AOTC, unfortunately. Evidently I should. And yes, it's 6.1(actually, it's 2 bookshelfs in the rear, does that make it 7.1 even if they are using the same signal?).
I threw up a pair of bookshelves, mounted on the back wall. I'm not totally satisfied with the visual flare of the whole thing and there's minimal concern about their stability. That said, can someone recommend me some good ex/es demos that I can try with the rear backs on and off to give me...
Well, in fairness a lot of people say the Klipsch sound better. It just depends on who you talk to. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I recently bought a set of the Ultras and I'm quite happy with them. No, they won't replace my dedicated home theater, but they are good enough that...
Greg, It seems your speakers are bipole/dipole switchable. This is exactly what you want. If you are putting them behind you switch to "bipole" if on the sides try "dipole."
If you are going to be putting them behind you, I recommend switching to the Bipole setting. Dipole works best on the sides where you can create the nullzone.
I pretty much have a similiar set up. My couch is right up against the wall, with the side walls pretty close to the couch. I've tried direct monopoles on the side. It didn't do it for me. I purchased a pair of Polk fx30's and tried them as bipoles on the back wall, mounted about 2 feet...
You don't have a midnight movie mode on or some such thing do you? Probably not, but it was my problem with subwoofer output once. I would highly recommend looking in your manual and finding out how to reset your receiver the default settings. It's probable something in there got changed...
I have my rear speakers (Polk FXI30s) mounted on the rear wall , with the couch backed up to it. I put them about 2 feet above our head position. There really wasn't a good place to mount them on the sides. Fortunately for me, the speakers are dipole/bipole switchable. I've tried both...
I'd definetly recommend spending the extra bit it costs for the RTI38's. Circuit city has them really cheap right now since they are being discontinued.
I'm not the most qualified to answer your questions, but I'll take a stab: 1. Some variance is normal. The subwoofer interacts with the room to create the SPL levels at various frequencies you are hearing. Placement of the subwoofer is critical. Ideally, you want to find a spot where the...
Dumb question forthcoming: Where's this ring? We have the grill.. the literal grill and then the surrounding plastic enclosure.. is this what is meant by the ring? That's what I've been trying to get off, but is just isn't going well no matter how you slice it.
I finally gave up. Felt like something was going to break and I decided it just wasn't worth it... even though the guys at SVS offered to send me a new cover should I ruin this one.
Looking at it from a static 2d image is always kind of challenging, but from what I see... I'd kind of mount them in the crevice for the window. One in each corner, but angled slightly towards the couch. I think you will be able to create a really good rear soundstage there, about 2-3 feet above...
A strange question, I'll admit, but for the life of me I can't get the top off my svs subwoofer so that I can try using the port blockers. I did what the tuning sheet recommended but the thing won't budge. Any tips?
With the RTI38's you shouldn't be missing any mid bass at all. Naturally, you will be missing the lower bass region, but that's to be expected with a bookshelf speaker. Placement is key. Find the right spot where the bass, mid range, and highs sound just right to you and enjoy them. I have a...
First off, I think this is phenominal performance and really enjoy the dvd. But, it seems to me that the audio quality ranges from excellent to muddy, particularly the vocals. For example: "Stay" sounds incredible. The vocals are crystal clear. Compare that to "Walk On" and it sounds like...
You could probably *run* them, but not for extended periods of time and you certainly couldn't run them to their potential. Your receiver is much better suited to the RTI series. And the 1803 is a good match with the RTIs. I'd get them and not look back, unless you want to completely overhaul...
Both speakers are really great, with the LSI's being exceptional. I don't necessarily think the 9s would be at a disadvantage in the "room filling" capacity. I've heard them in a room not too far off from what you have and I was very impressed. The main consideration would be the power...
Unfortunately I'm in St. George, UT. About 1hr away from Vegas. If shipping is a major sticking point we could work something out, I'm pretty easy going.
