the video has already been degrade by using coaxial cable... the best solution is putting the satellite receiver close to your TV, and use component cable to connect sat receiver output to TV input. use S-video if the receiver doesn't have component output. if you have to use the coaxial...
I have panny 53wx42 with time warner. the analog and digital channels are acceptable. true HD programs are great most of time. but sometimes you can feel the program got compressed a little too much. some 4:3 programs showing on HD channels have bad color though, kind of dark and blue.
my panny also has 2 ANT IN, but I can't use PIP with one picture using ANT1 and the other using ANT2. I run component video out of cable box to TV. so I can do either 2 non-digital channels, or 1 non-digital plus component video from cable box (which can show any channel).
I use an APC UPS for my RPTV. but I don't know what's a perfect sine wave and what different it can make. I can't tell any difference on image quality with the UPS connected or not.
download the service manual from panny.tv website. it's quite easy to follow the steps (regarding what buttons to push, that is, not how easy to correct all geometry problems). it's actually not wx42 manual, but many people have used its instruction on those sets and seems they are identical.
the service manual is easier to follow than the short instruction on panny.tv website. download the pdf file there and read it. the file you can download is not for wx42/52 I believe, but it works.
the first problem sounds like overscan. you could change the vertical and horizontal sizes to lower overscan or you can see the outer box. it's in service menu.
second problem is geometry and third is convergence. both could be corrected by the 64-point (fine) convergence in service menu. it's...
I don't see red push on my set. if you want to do 64-point geometry and convergence yourself, you can do it now. you may need to do it again later, but why watch it in lower quality for this period. if you plan to have an ISF calibration, then you should wait.
hmm? how can an e-focus reset your manual focus? when you do manual focus you need to move some screws and fasten them after you are done. the e-focus is in completely different position and you change some electronically. it can't reset or undo what you did with manual focus. I did both...
you don't need to open the set for entering service menu, just use remote and buttons on the set. check http://panny.tv for instructions. you should also download and read the service manual before you proceed.
I have brightness at around 30 for DVD, calibrated with Avia, but for dishnetwork...
I don't know others but my panny widescreen shows 4:3 material with gray bars on sides, to minimize uneven burn in. how many people have 4:3 burn in on there widescreen set? or how many see letterbox burn in?

the brownish color might because gray scale is off, which probably can be corrected in service menu. if you set sharpness right (should be fairly low, like 0-10), and still have the blur, it maybe bad focus or convergence. to adjust focus you need to open the set, but it's quite simple...
if the non-anamorphic disk is in letter box format (so same aspect ratio), it has less resolution. but since the player needs to add black bars on top and bottom, it reduces the resolution before it sends the images to TV. I guess it ends up with about same resolution.
I've found the brightness level heavily depends on what source you use. I've tried 3 DVDs and the bightness level ranges from 18-46 when properly set. I think Allan is right. brightness controls black level, and has less effect on tube life comparing to white level, which is controled by...
on my set, I found the focus was quite good out of box. but geometry was a mess... once entering the fine convergence mode, almost none of the lines were straight.
our BBV typically has wide screen version of movies. so when I got the insomia, I didn't pay attention at all and only when I played it I found it's P/S... I went back for an exchange but they only had P/S! I showed my disappointment to them...
The service manual you can download at panny.tv is for wx49 I believe. however, at least for the convergence part, I think it's 100% same for wx42. I followed it and did it on my 53wx42 without any problem. however, for wx42 the other values (brightness etc.) are not same as people listed on...
Robb, your problem should be solved fairly easily through 64-point geometry and convergence. you can't do it through user menu convergence because it doesn't do geometry (i.e., can't move green light).
go to panny.tv and download the service menual, follow instruction in it... it's not hard...
most possible reason is the DVD player is not set to output for 16x9 TV. monsters, Inc. is 1.85:1. there should be no noticeable black bars on top and bottom. panny has aspect modes 4:3, zoom, full, just. no "normal" mode. for all anamorphic DVD should use full.
Dann, as Butch pointed out, you can find many information on fine tune the set at panny.tv. for 64-point convergence, you need to enter service menu mode, but no need to open the TV. I've found the service manual is easier to follow than the instruction posted on panny.tv. the manual and...
I almost returned my 53wx42 the first week... but after some calibration especially 64-point geometry and convergence, the picture looked MUCH better. however, I don't see much difference between a progressive scan with panny RP62 player and my old toshiba 3109 interlaced. I have dish and...
it's not too hard, but is time consuming (1~2 hours)... download the service manual and start from coarse convergence. remember entering service menu resets user menu thus you need to change those settings back or calibrate again (color, brightness etc.)
I believe you can change all those settings (color, tint, brightness etc.) for all three modes, e.g., you can make vivid less colorful and lower brightness than standard if you want... I don't see red push on my TV with Avia. but green is slightly over 0%. Monsters, Inc is digital to...
