You didn't ask this, but maybe it's something to think about anyway. You said you were going with a "thin" carpet. I used a commercial grade, low pile, or "thin" carpet too, that I found on sale. But in order to make sure I had enough sound absorption over my concrete floor, I had them install...
I had a similar problem. I'm sure it is a ground loop, but in my case, the quick and easy solution was to unhook my composite video input from my projector and only plug it in when I need it. I'm sure this broke the ground loop, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about fixing it in another way...
I have a 25 foot run for my video cables from my auido/video rack to my front projector. I went to a local electronics supply store and had them make up 4, 25' runs of RG6 cable with rca ends. It was much cheaper than commercial cable, is shielded, rated for high bandwidth video signals and...
Colton, I got my fabric at Lowes. It is an inexpensive indoor/outdoor carpet with no backing on it. So in effect, it is a heavy felt. I think I paid something like $6.oo/yard for it. Steve
I have an MX-500 and I can program mine via PC. Makes it so much easier. You can also back-up your settings so you don't have to redo them if they get lost. The only drawback to the MX-500 is that it doesn't do RF. But if you don't need RF you can't beat it for the price. Steve
James, my HT is 22' x 12' with the screen on the 12' wall. My front row of theater seats is about 11' from the screen. I have a Da-Lite 106" permanent mount screen and it feels just about right for that distance. This would probably work for you as well. 14K is a nice budget, you should be...
I've got that screen in 106" width. It's the one part of my HT that I don't have the upgrade bug about. It's a great screen. I would get the black felt on the frame tho. It will absorb the inevitable light spillage that comes with a fixed pixel projector. Mine has it and I'm really glad I got it.
I have JT Live at Beacon Theater. The audio and video are both reference quality. Great concert too, if you like JT. Only problem is that it is in 4:3 aspect. Wish it was 16:9. JT looks a little fat when stretched ;-) Steve
Leah, that reciever is a Pro-logic receiver. IMHO, it wouldn't be worth the price to upgrade speakers unless you upgrade the receiver to a Dolby Digital surround receiver. I have an old Pro-logic receiver in my family room and a DD receiver in my dedicated theater. There is just no comparison...
1.78 will accomodate all 3 formats(plus the 4:3 of NTSC TV), but you will get black bars top and bottom on 1.85 and 2.35 formats. The only way to avoid this (other than using the zoom function, which most consider to be a no-no) is with a masking system. You can buy a screen with adjustable...
Da-Lite has a fixed frame, perforated screen that is $1580 for the 106" diagonal widescreen format. There are other comapnies such as Stewart, but Da-lite will be considerably less expensive than those. Here is the link to Da-Lite's pricing sheet...
Have you priced perferated screens yet? You could blow a big part of your budget on that one item alone. I'd also recommend Paradigm speakers. Great bang for the buck. As for the sub, it depends on what you are looking for. The fact that you were thinking of using 2 subs leads me to...
Thanks Cam. I bought it off of a good friend who needed the money. I figure someday, I'll sell it back to him....Probably replace it with a V-Max. I had an '83 V65 Magna. Great bike. BTW, are you familliar with the ZX-12R board over at Bikeland.org ?. Great bunch of guys and you don't need...
Sweet! I am buying a new ZX-10R in the spring. Not sure yet, but probably in black, unless they come out with red for 2005. As long as we are on the subject, here is my present ride. Not bad for 25yrs old (1979 model), huh? ps. sorry for hijacking the thread. :D
I never said it took that long to get there, just that it takes a lot of space to get there and slow down again. As for Gonads...No, I think it was immaturity, actually. A head on collision with a car cured me of that particular shortcoming in a hurry. Cam, It doesn't matter what you ride...
My last motorcycle (Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R) would do 193. I only got the chance to get it to 170 though. Always wanted to see what 193 felt like, but do you know how much room it takes to get up to those kinds of speeds (and slow down again)?. But like Brian said, it felt good knowing I had the...
I think the suggestions given so far are good, except that I don't think the smaller Paradigm subs will fill a room that large with satisfying bass. I have a PW-2200 myself in a room that is 12' x 20' so I do have some knowledge of what I speak. If possible, I would look to SVS for the sub. I...
I auditioned basically the same systems and ended up with the Paradigms, except that I got the PW-2200 sub. I originally intended to buy Klipsh on reputation alone, but when I auditioned them, I didn't like the sound of the horn mid/highs. I am very satisfied with my choice although upraditis...
Some of the new Yamaha models (and a few other brands latest models) do the video converson from any input type to component. If I were building a HT now, I'd give them serious consideration since they also (the Yamaha's ata least) have the automatic room eq feature. As for cables, I had really...
I didn't think that Klipsch and Paradigm sounded much alike at all. I went in all ready to buy Klipsch from thier reputation and name recognition. However, when I listened to them, I didn't like the Horn mids/tweeters. I asked the salesman what else he had in that price range. That's when he...
I have a PW-2200. I haven't heard the PDR-1200, so I can't compare, but the 2200 is an amazing sub in my ht (12'X 20'). I think I even like it better on music than movies. But I'm also the kind of guy who thinks too much is almost enough. My 2200 works well, but on some of the most bass...
If he is set on the Bose, make sure he gets one with the cube center channel that connects back to the bass module. In my living room I have the AM-5 system (bought in college, 161's for the rear and the VCS-10 center and it absolutely sucks!! You can't understand anything comming from the...
Does the room have a return air vent? it's my experience that if the room is sealed off, it won't heat or cool properly without a return air vent. The air coming into the room has no where to go and it keeps more from flowing in through the vents unless you have a door open to the rest of the...
In ceiling speakers are harder to get to work well. Not that it can't be done, I'm sure several people here have them and are happy with them. If that is your only option, I'd ask around for advice on how to make them work and sound good. I used them once in a similar situation to what you are...
I have the PW-2200 and although I've never been dissapointed with it(it is a great sub), I'm still wanting to move up the the SVS PB2+. The price quoted you is pretty close to the price of the PB2+. If it were me, I'd give a hard look at the SVS sub. The rest of the package should make a great...
