You are correct. The real question is why the Olive Signature is OOP while the 2013 Olive (and MoC) are still readily available.
This Spanish blu-ray is regions A, B and C.
Fathom Events is showing The Quiet Man in theaters for a couple days, so maybe that means it'll come back in print soon...
Would anyone by chance know if this 2017 Spanish Blu-ray is the same transfer as the OOP (and *expensive*) Olive Signature disc? I suspect it is - it's got the same extras and is from around the same time. Any confirmation would be appreciated.
Very interested in this. Remember seeing this in college and liking it quite a bit. And with the workprint included - ! Knew this was Cagney's final bow, but did not know about O'Brien.
Just checked amazon re: this, and...
"This title will be released on November 2, 2021."
Man! -by the time this comes out they should pay me to take it...
Okay, let me ask another question: is there any way to go into the service menu and turn chroma completely off, so I'm just getting the b/w portion of the picture? Anybody know?
Adjusting the gamma setting didn't appear to make much difference. I adjusted the backlight down which *I think* did lessen the effect. Watched the Criterion ISLAND OF LOST SOULS and pretty much only noticed it on fast pans through the jungle, on the black trees.
Can't believe no one else has...
After having a Vizio M55-D0 for about 10 days and deciding I couldn't stand the judder of 60hz and realizing I wasn't yet ready for 4K (it made DVDs literally look like VHS), I traded it in for a 1080P LED set. I got a Sony KDL60W630B/2 that RTNGS spoke fairly high of. Everything looks fine...
Not sure this is the right forum for this, but since it pertains to my new display... After having a Vizio M50-D0 for about 10 days and deciding I couldn't stand the judder of 60hz and realizing I wasn't yet ready for 4K (it made DVDs literally look like VHS), I traded it in for a 1080P LED set...
There is a problem with the subs on Gamera 3. Some are incorrect, and some lines are not even subtitled. I've watched G3 on DVD (from the subtitled R2 box) quite a bit and am pretty familiar with the subtitles, and was disappointed in the errors on the Mill Creek blu-ray. The picture quality is...
Is this the region-free blu of which you speak?:

I'd like to pick this up on HD, but don't really want any of the other films in the box-set.
Ya' gotta think with the prequel coming out soon that this will be getting another blu-ray release, like Predator. Let's hope the results are better than that fiasco!
Watched my copy of Gamera vs. Barugan last night and was very pleased. A beautiful disc! And the movie, as Todd points out in his review, was a lot better than the first (no annoying kid for one thing). Would be terrific if Shout! could license the Heisei Gamera trilogy and release it on...
Considering that the UK edition is region-free, has the correct theatrical subs and an audio commentary with the director and novelist/screenwriter (absent on the US disc), I know which edition I'm picking up.
Take that, Magnet...!
(I posted this on Classic Horror Forum as well)
I got Abe Lincoln in Illinois today and it's definitely an older transfer. The credits are incredibly window-boxed, meaning they're really protected for major CRT over-scan. Have only watched a few minutes on my computer monitor (had no trouble...
Well said, John.
I ordered two films I've been waiting to be released for a while (Abe Lincoln in Illinois and Too Hot to Handle). Those were worth 20 bucks each to me. I'm interested in some of the others (Adventures of Mark Twain, Doc Savage, a couple others) but not at 20 bucks a pop.
Just a heads-up: the Digital Bits is reporting Magnet (the co. that released the DVD and Bluray) is coming out with another pressing that corrects the subs to as they were in the theatrical version. No exchange for those who've already purchased, however. Check out the Bits for details.
