i was really turned on by the idea of commercial free radio that stays on channel no matter how far you drive. To give you an idea of how much I hate commercials, consider that i have a $20,000 hometheater system and it runs just a few hours a month of DVD time because i REFUSE to watch TV with...
At first I thought that this film should have been reviewed by somebody else because this reviewer seems to lack the sophisticated adaptability that is needed to properly comprehend the movie from the viewpoint of the people who's lives and culture it represents. But then I thought that...
hmm. everywhere I look, the XBR800 is listed at $2300. $1350 + $200 gift card sounds really fantastic. would you consider letting me have a copy of your invoice (name/address blanked out if you prefer) so I could take it to circuit city or somewhere and try to get the same deal? or maybe you...
I have 46" rear projector, but now I am moving near school for my MBA program into a tiny apt and cannot accomodate my HT system. but I can't face the thought of getting a small 4:3 TV. So I am now exploring the option of a 16:9 direct view TV. I am hoping people who know about that market...
I know it now has the Dolby EX logo on it, and I believe the component video switching bandwidth is greater. 1. does the 3803 actually do something different and better than the 3802 as far as the EX is concerned, or would the latter's 6.1 dolby decoding mode sound the same as the 3803's EX...
I don't have golden ears, I don't extoll the virtues of exotic cables, I don't hear dramatic differences between the sound of different amps. but I find the sound of 1 sub unsatisfactory. for over a decade I believed that human hearing is nondirectional at low frequencies, that a well placed...
back when it was introduced, the DR7 was a pretty impressive speaker for the money. I bought a pair of BP8 for my dad back in '95, and it was as good a full range speaker you could get then for what I paid ($700US). Frankly, even today, I don't think there are a lot of $700 speakers that sound...
speakers in a price range, for a performance type, size considerations, placement flexibility, decor, etc, sure. but selecting speakers so they match a subwoofer? thats like buying a house that matches the furniture, almost.
the person said he was considering used 804s vs new Studio 100s. If the 804s are in mint condition, there is no question which I would buy. I think the signature 2.1 is more than adequate, unless the room is very large. however, considering that you're going to be listening only 30% music...
I dunno, I think think the 804 will run very well on 100wpc, as long as the amp has good headroom. My impression has been that the 804 is really for smaller volume rooms. any room where 100wpc is not enough but 200 would be, mostly likely needs the 803 anyway.
torsten, signature 804? I must admit that I have never heard of such a beast. there was the old Signature line, the Silver Signature and the Silver Signature 30, and there are the new Nautilus Signature 805 and Nautilus Signature 800. I don't know of the Signature 804. are you thinking of...
I've heard matrix 804s and studio 100s side by side. the Studios will play louder and pound harder, but in terms of sound quality, its simply no comparison. the B&W sound has a texture, speed, airiness, refinement, sophistication, smoothness, that the Studio cannot even think of. I am...
I can just hear it. I don't know how to explain it without demonstrating and explaining what I am hearing without you there with me so I can describe what you should listen for.
who knows. I stopped looking at watt ratings of speakers so far back, I can't even remember when I cared about it. I make sure I have enough power, I make sure I don't drive the speakers into distortion, and thats all thats important. If I start hearing compression in the sound, if I detect...
from my own expereince, a single subwoofer is not adequate. I have heard all my life about how bass is non directional to the human hearing, and I believed it even though it did not match my expereinces. I never ever heard a single subwoofer set up where the bass was completely diffuse and...
guys, I have a pair of car subs that I never installed. It is the model Coustic DR-330, essentially two 10" drivers mounted face to face, and venting through a hole to the side. I have two of these. I installed one in my car but never wired it up, and the other one sits in its unopened box...
NHT did the subtwoi very well. the amp is built into the sub cabinet, but the crossover controls are not. thats a rack width component that has more adjustability and tunability than you can think of, and it sits in your component rack. Additionally, its a stereo unit, so you can have two...
the MMG is so dynamically limited that if you set any good sub level such that its balanced with the MMG, it'll never get to its output limits. the MMGs will give out much before the sub will.
i notice that there are particular brands that do well with members of this forum, keep getting talked about and recommended ad nauseum, to the exclusion of too much other good stuff. Rp82 DVD players, SVS subs, paradigm speakers, and what not. a severe limitation of HTF.
I think you should put your money into speakers, not speaker cables. I have 12 gauge OFC speaker cable, and I will NEVER use anything more exotic than that. fancy cables amount to the same thing as the price fluffing tack ons that dealers put on new cars to bolster their profit.
I found 7.1 very frustrating (but no more than 6.1). difficult to get a symmetric positioning for 4 equal height direct radiating speakers. However, once done, the rewards are intense. the panning of sound from front to back, from side to side, is superb. The sound field is very precise and yet...
Fedex was supposed to deliver something for me from Wisconsin to Madison, and it ended up somwhere in connecticut. THey promised to have to me the same day by 5pm, but just to be sure, I asked the sender to send again. The original package that went to connecticut never showed. no idea what...
I have owned two pairs of MMGs. They were at once charming and infuriating. They need to be positioned correctly, and I found what worked best for me was to place them far away from side walls and the wall behind them, toed in toward my listening chair (a very minimalistic thing. no heavy...
he'll only wonder until the next hot subwoofer name shows up. THen he'll wonder about that. Much to be said for knowing when you have a good thing going.
