Thanks. however only have scart leads connected. There is no other device connected. I only connect the console when needed because i thought that might be casuing the problem. I have experienced problems with the sets speakers for a few months (out of warranty) They basically fluctutate between...
Hello, just wonder if anyone could offer any advice please? I currently have a Philips 24 inch widescreen CRT. I use it mostly to view dvds (i have a huge collection!) i also use it to play the odd console game on. My problem is that i have started to notice a flickering to the image, especially...
Anyone know if the new version of TCM (original) will be released on r2 dvd also? Also will there be a release of Grease? (i know the r1 edition is coming this year) Would appreciate any news
Just need a decent quality T2 now to complete the trilogy. Still hoping they will release the extreme edition in the uk as i found the momentum special edition poor in terms of picture quality.
The r2 version of Halloween 2 is one of the worst ransfers i have seen. It looks like a second rate video copy. There's pixelation, colour bleed, vast amounts of grain, washed out picture and the black levels are poor. In fact, it's not that good!
Someone mentioned earlier that grain is not a bad thing. well it is, in terms of dvd transfers. I don't think the current format can handle grain. Period!
Thanks for your answer Michael. The artefacts you describe sound like the same artefacts present in the Indiana Jones Boxset which i was also disapointed with.
I have some questions that i would really appreciate an answer to! Will this new technology eliminate artefacts like pixelation, blocking and edge enhancement. Can the new format cope better with elements like rain, fog, mist and skylines. will the discs contain full bitrate D.T.S...
Michael, those compression artefacts you see, are they related to the fog which is visible in the early scenes and if so do they give the fog a strange jerky appearance?
Excellent extras. Unfortunately the disc is a little too crammed. The picture is very watchable but suffers from shimmer on a number of scenes. Had they switched to a 2 discer this would have been my release of the year.
Im sick and tired of poor transfers. i really hope they get their act together with this one. i am getting to the stage where i would be just happy with a film and choice of DD or DTS soundtracks. I don't think commentaries are that important anyway. There are no guarantees with the superbit of...
Dan is talking a lot of sense with this one. I also think the print should have been cleaned up before the Superbit was brought out. I noticed no difference at all on a 42 inch plasma screen. The soundtrack was good but the picture was the let down for me.
Colton, the problem is the technology itself. Dvd struggles with fog or smoke due to it's ever changing nature. More often than not, the bitrate is simply not high enough. I'm not sure if transferring any extras to a second disc and just having the movie on one disc would help. I know it...
Colton, i see what you are seeing. The scene you mentioned that looked like a computer screen is awful on my screen. It has that unnatural movement as well which completely spoils a transfer in my eyes. I can see this artefact on my Phillips widescreen with Sony £500 (normally solid performer)...
This could simply be a player fault. I have constantly stated that my r2 LOTR Fellowship disc has compression artefacts and it just seemed like no one else noticed them. to me, however, they spoilt the viewing experience. Most people when asked reported a artefact free image, which was far from...
Colton, just get used to it pal. It's simply the norm for dvd. Even using the total bitrate allowed by dvd there are some scenes that are virtually impossible to encode well. Don't know if HD DVD will change this or the same problem will exist.

American psycho (r2 uk) looks very clean and is generally a very good transfer. It does however have very minor pixelation in a couple of scenes. However i would wait for a special edition as the extras are poor.
