    HTF HD-DVD Review: Blood Diamond

I don't normally check the bitrate meter unless I notice compression blocks (as I did with Blood Diamond) or if the picture looks exceptional (like Deja Vu). Deja Vu spikes to 50mbps in some spots, I noticed that Blood Diamond rarely gets up that high and it does make me wonder if a higher bit...

    HTF HD-DVD Review: Blood Diamond

After testing out both discs (since I noticed scenes with compression when first viewing the Blu-Ray), I have to say both are identical. I have no problem with VC-1 at all, I think it looks fantastic a lot of the time (have you seen Deja Vu?!). But here's the thing, even with VC-1, when you get...

    HTF HD-DVD Review: The Fountain

I thought the surrounds were fairly active. The spain scenes used them quite a bit. Also people opening and closing doors came from behind you and so did some dialogue. Anytime you hear her say "Finish it" it's ussually in a rear channel. But it is too bad we didn't get a PCM or a Dolby TrueHD...

    Yamaha HTR-5990

So I have the reciever, and I have to say, I am horribly horribly dissapointed. I cannot use PCM 6.1 or PCM 7.1 because the receiver doesn't detect the extra channel... Unless I am doing something wrong.

    Yamaha HTR-5990

Thanks for the help! Justin actually sealed the deal for me. I have the Yamaha RX-V2500 right now and absolutely positively love the sound from it. I figured my best bet would be to go with another Yamaha and people seem to really like this one. I'll be getting it on Friday and I'll let you all...

    Yamaha HTR-5990

Alright, so I have decided I need a reciever with HDMI. Right now I have the Yamaha RX-V2500 and I am unable to use Dolby TrueHD (on HD-DVD) and all the PCM tracks on Blu-Ray. So I would like to get a reciever with HDMI input so I can take advantage of these audio formats. Today I ran accross a...

Anyone find Superman II RD cut or Superman TM in HD-DVD?

I went to 2 Walmarts, one only carried the blu-ray of Superman Returns, the other only carried the HD-DVD. Very odd... The samething with The Ant Bully. I went to best buy after, they had only Superman Returns on HD-DVD, no blu-ray of it. They also didn't have The Ant Bully on HD-DVD. Very...

HTF HD DVD REVIEW: The Perfect Storm (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).

Few things to bring up, the Dolby Digital-Plus track isn't flagged for anything (as in, Dolby EX or, I guess in my case it'd be DTS ES). What's the point of these new audio formats with 7.1 capabilites if they don't even take advantage of something that could've easily been in at least 6.1...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Wedding Singer - Totally Awesome Edition

I too am a trailer junkie. Every week all my friends get together to watch movies and I always have trailers for stuff we're gonna be watching soon. Which is why all movies should have their trailers! Who's with me!!!

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Windtalkers Director's Cut

Pearl Harbor was an entertaining film that I had no problems sitting through time and time again for 3 hours. It's not exactly what I would call a good film, but entertaining still. Windtalkers... that just is one big pile of poop. The fact that the actors just keep rolling their way out of...

    The Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD Player

I noticed when doing the Avia tests and the THX optimizer tests, the player doesn't display really deep blacks. I am using a Monster Cable HDMI-To-DVI adapter. Anyone else notice this? I know my TV does display the blacks because on my Denon 955 upscalling player, it displayed them perfectly...

DVD Review HTF Review: King Kong (2005). Very highly recommended

Patrick, I actually can't hear the glitch when all the channels are going, the only time I can hear it is when the center channel is taken out due to Kong's roar being so loud and covering it up. I only noticed the warble and was like "hmmmm.... that was odd" and then isolated the front 2...

DVD Review HTF Review: King Kong (2005). Very highly recommended

The score has pops in the recording, you can hear it on the soundtrack to. But if anyone would like to test out the scene I was refering to when Kong bursts through the gate on the island, I would be very grateful, cuz I think I might have a deffective copy or something... It's just when the...

DVD Review HTF Review: King Kong (2005). Very highly recommended

I noticed a possible flaw on my DVD. Possible spoiler... In the scene when they attempt to capture Kong, right as he bursts through the doors after the whole slow motion scene, the audio appears to slow down and the score has a digital gltich in it it sounds like. Anyone else notice...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Memoirs Of A Geisha

Actually it was in the score that I noticed it sounding somewhat muffled. I tried it with and without THX and both sounded muffled. Perhaps I am going hard of hearing after blasting Kong!

DVD Review HTF Review: King Kong (2005). Very highly recommended

Dolby TrueHD is a lossless format identical to the masters. Pretty much near flawless audio. There is also DTS HD. Both of which have capabilities of well over 8 channels but Blu-Ray and HD-DVD only are capable of 8 for now. Dolby Digital-Plus is just a higher bit rate. I believe the bit rate is...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Memoirs Of A Geisha

To me, the score and the cinematography were excelent, but it just seemed like something was lacking. And it also seemed like the film was trying to hard to be great. I can't quite put my finger on it. The audio was very well done, but did anyone else think this film sounded somewhat muffled?

DVD Review HTF Review: King Kong (2005). Very highly recommended

Anyone know why this film wasn't flagged for Surround EX? It's supposed to be in it. All of you lucky ones with 7.1 capabilities should enable it too, it sounds amazing. The only thing missing (not really sure how much of a loss it was though) is a DTS ES track. Oh well, there's always HD-DVD.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride

I'm sorry, but I have to strongly dissagree with the audio review here. The audio in this DVD (flagged Surround EX on all of the 5.1 soundtracks, including the isolated score) is fantastic. It's powerful, spacious, and uses all channels. The dialogue is sharp and crystal clear, the echoes are...

    HTF REVIEW: Scrubs Season Two

On season one was there music changed? I never watched the show on TV, I only stumbled across season one when a friend recommended it to me and I gotta say I love this show. Just got my copy and will spend the next few days watching it.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Kingdom of Heaven

I watched this film last night, and I turned up the brightness just to see if it was my display making it so that I could not see what was going on on screen, but this movie is just TOO dark! Hopefully if there's a director's cut released (Which I am not sure i'll buy) the picture will be...

Titanic SE See Post #541 for Update

Ok, I think we need to take a stand for this trailer non-sense. The thing I was looking to the most about this (aside from the anamorphic widescreen and possible DTS ES) was the trailers. I loved the trailer that used the music from Waterworld and if they don't include that I am going to be...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Ring Two (Unrated Edition)

I did like the theatrical cut better too. But, unfortunately, it is only available in full frame... Not that I would double dip for this movie anyway, unless they release some super version with DTS ES, completely remastered picture... then i might think about it. As for the 6th Sense music...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Ring Two (Unrated Edition)

I personally prefered the Theatrical Cut to the Director's Cut. This film just was meh to me. I think that's cuz I was expecting total crap so I didn't have the bar very high. In the added scenes, some of it appears to be in mono. The thing that bothered me the most in the directors' cut was the...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Sin City - RECOMMENDED

Yeah, the voice over stuff sounds perfect. Some of the stuff is obvious that there was background noise and they only faded in the center channel when dialouge was present and faded it right back out. But then the high pitched noise in some of the scenes is really bad and I have no clue what...

I thought I was going insane with the whole static thing! But when all of my friends got together Friday night and we all heard it (Except for one person who may have been sitting at the wrong angle) I knew it wasn't just my ears. Plus I tested it on 2 other surround systems and it was still...
