well, everyone seems to be satisfied with their choices, so I guess I can't go too wrong. Here's my question: In general, when you go for a more expensive pepro, you're spending the dollars to either get proprietary surround software (like Logic 7) or increased flexibility in setup and...
MikeTz: I don't need video switching. I only have two video sources (DVD and cable) which I can switch at my plasma. So again I'm into the minimalist approach on the sound part of the prepro.I am tempted to spend the extra bucks on the Bryston, although as you say, the 2 channel analog...
I sold it for more than I bought it for... So which of these units has the best mc analog passthrough? I guess opamp choice and analog implementation would be most important here? Anyone look inside these things?
Another possibility is the Audio Refinement prepro, which should have a good analog section by its pedigree, every review says it sounds good for the money, perhaps better than the Rotel. The ads for it claim that it can be upgraded to a newer Motorola processor that does PLII, but I've never...
I should mention that I have 5 identical speakers in an ITU configuration, so a lot features and flexibility in delay, crossover points, etc is not what I need. Plain jane DD and PLII, along with a good analog section is what I'm looking for.
OK, it's everyone's favorite sport. Here are my key needs: 1) A high quality 5.1 analog pass through for SACD/DVD-A (I am an audiophile, you see). I am not as concerned about the quality of the stereo pass through. 2) Must have Dolby II, but I don't care about EX, X or any other 7 channel...
This chart is a great thing. I agree however, that it is unclear about the number of 2 channel vs. 5.1 analog bypass inputs. This is crucial info for those interested in SACD or DVD-A, and the Sony's have 2 sets of 5.1 inputs, for those who want a separate player for DVD-A and SACD.
I guess that is my problem/question. I thought the front stage wouldn't be that affected in logic 7. but it seemed that center vocals, as opposed to center panned vocals in stereo, were very recessed. And I thought that this wasn't as much a problem in prologic 2.
Then again, I'm just...
So I picked up a 520 this week and am using it as a pre/pro with a parasound amp. I bought mostly because of the Logic 7. I have been comparing it to Prologic II this weekend, and I'm not sure the winner is clear. I tried Paul Simon's Graceland, especially "Diamond on the Soles of my shoes" and...
well, most people seems to think that Logic 7 is better than DP2, although I haven't been able to find any really extended discussion on why this should be true. The other issue for me is the 2 sets of multichannel inputs on the Sony. This would be extremely useful for DVD-A and SACD, unless...
Sony has to multichannel inputs, which is handy for DVD-A and SACD. Harman has Logic 7, which may be the best way to obtain multichannel sound from stereo music sources? Any opinions or suggestions...both are pretty reasonably priced these days
