Correction...the guy that I sold it to is SOL :b . Fortunately, he's the one who really cares anything about such stuff in his house, and he will not be listening to the patio speakers and watching a movie at the same time. I'm giving him a decent Sony ES stereo amp anyway, so he is coming out...
Lanny, That appears to be an FM radio antenna input. You would have to use the receivers tuner function to listen to radio. It is not for cable TV input. And try remotecentral.com for your remote programming questions. A very useful site.
Yea..that's why I sold it. Of course, I replaced it with a 3 year old Lex :emoji_thumbsup: .
OK, I know that all I have to do is use the Front Left and Right preouts to the amp. My question is about the loss of the center channel when playing a 5.1 source in the main room and the 2 patio...
My old DA5ES now belongs to a friend. He has a 5.1 set up in the main room and 2 speakers on his patio. Currently, to run the patio speakers, the center channel in the main room is sacrificed. I have an extra stereo amp that I would like to add to the system. I would much prefer to use that amp...
I calibrate a 7.1 system with AVIA, and more recently with the internal test tones on my MC1, using a rat shack spl meter. I have read that the most common "mistake" is running the surrounds and sub too hot. Well, I've found that to get what I consider good sound, I have to run the surrounds and...
"Well, we can't agree on everything - - I think they're ugly as sin. (And for it's worth, I am not a big fan of the B&W sound."
Then I definitely need to take a careful listen before any purchase, so that statement is worth a lot to me. I probably have to rely alot more on this kind of info...
Yea...life's a bitch down here ;) . Yes, probably 70/30 HT to music. But the music proportion is going up all the time since my system has been slowly upgraded. Actually, the Klipsch Reference speakers that I have now are very good for HT. The reason I'm thinking about upgrading them is because...
Yes to all of the above. Listening together will be difficult to impossible for me. I live on a small island that doesn't have a Parasound or a B&W dealer. That is, unless I get lucky and can find a dealer that has both when I visit the States. I was hoping someone has or has heard the combo. My...
I plan to listen to some B&W 802's in the near future. My current system uses 2 Parasound 1205's, with my main and center Klipschs passively bi-amped. Any thoughts on how these amps would mate with the B&W's? Would passively bi-amping them provide enough power to open up these speakers? I love...
"Check this though, do you think that the "Weekening" would cause the reduction of the sense of motion? in other words I can still hear the sound from the rears(Ques) but it seems less connected/fluid the illusion of motion from back to front, front to back seems less convincing." I still...
Jay,
Firstly, I believe I have given you due credit for your knowledge. I think your understanding was demonstrated by the nature of your first question.
If you can't test your theory in real time by changing delays, I agree, it will be difficult to know for sure. I could do it for you on my...
OK...how about this: With re-eq on, sounds are tilted to be a little more bassy (word?). So you get more crossed over to your sub for a given sound. You now have less directional information from your surrounds. Or, because the sound is shifted to a lower frequency with re-eq, there are fewer...
Jay, Just a shot in the dark, but are you turning the re-eq only off and on? Or, are you turning THX processing off and on? If it's the THX that you're messing with, then what you are probably hearing is the de-correlation of the surrounds, rather than the re-eq. Did I misunderstand your...
"The fact that a disc is THX-certified doesn't necessarily mean that it's been re-equalized at the encoding stage." I didn't know that. Is there a way to tell if a disk has been re-eq'd. Is it usually stated on the package? Do you leave your re-eq function on with these disks?
Thanks Will, I was aware that re-equalization can be turned on and off. I was just wondering if it SHOULD be turned off with a THX disk (that already has re-equalization). Or, does something automatically happen in the pre-pro so that I don't manually have to turn it off. Or, if I don't turn...
I agree, some don't , that older disks benefit from re-equalization. I guess my question is....Do the new disks that already have re-equalization suffer... from Logic 7 re-equalization (again)? I am assuming that if one uses THX processing on their pre-pro/receiver, that it recognizes the THX...
OK...I've got a question. When I watch a DVD that is "THX certified" with my Lex with Logic 7 re-eqalization enabled, am I re-equalizing a sound track that has already been re-equalized? It all sounds great to me...just asking. ;)
I agree with the last three posts.
Set all speakers to small.
Crossover at 80-100 Hz.
Sub - yes.
LFE/Sub cut OFF or all the way up
LFE cut to 0 dB
Make sure your sub triggers on if that is an option. If it isn't, turn it to on and leave it there.
Let us know.
OK...now you've really got me curious. Let me quote you..
"I found plain cinema studio by itself worked better than trying to overlay neo and DLP II."
You see, I think that you "overlay" the Cinema modes on the basic decoder, either PL II or neo6, not the other way around.
What you are...
Mark, I have to respectfully disagree. I am sure you are getting good surround with the Cinema C mode, but that doesn't mean your 2 channel sources aren't decoded with prologic. The fact that you can adjust various parameters also dosen't mean that the Cinema mode is doing the decoding. I...
But, but...I bought it used, so it wasn't that much money! I know what you mean though...it really isn't a fair comparison. I honestly do believe though that it's the re-equalization and decorrelation functions that have helped in my particular situation, not so much the DAC's. Now for 2 channel...
Mark, I'll bet that when you select Cinema Studio C, that you default to PL II, as flenn said. That's why you are getting sound from all of the speakers. Does the Prologic light come on in the front panel? The Cinema C just simulates a particular mixing studio, it doesn't give you surround sound.
I agree...the THX CERTIFICATION doesn't mean a product will outperform another without it. I think we should make a distinction between "certification" and "processing". I have been speaking of the processing. As a matter of fact, on my Lex, I don't use the THX processing. I generally use the...
Louis, I've spent considerable time and effort to get my room as good as I can, given it's limitations. I can appreciate where you're coming from with the one button approach to solving (or pseudo-solving) problems. By attempting to improve my room, I have managed to get my 2 channel music to...
Mark, Don't you have to choose a 2 channel decoder to get multi-channel sound....otherwise you get only 2 channels? I didn't/don't think that the Studio A/B/C did that. And, just to be sure we're talking apples...you are talking about 2 channel input with the PLII and Neo6, right? For DD and...
I can try to answer that. But, the Sony DA5ES and the Lexicon MC1 aren't really in the same price range. This may sound a little like a THX advertisement...it's not meant that way. This is what I perceive as the difference. 1) The overall sound is more bassy (is that a word?). Not like you...
