I'm not familiar with the scaler in the runco, but there is a new model out from DVDO called the iScan Ultra HD that costs $1499 new and is getting rave reviews. There are some detailed threads on this on AVS Forum.
Hmm... I noticed from the B&K website that there is also an AVR505. Basically the same thing as the 507 but with 5 channels instead of 7. This would be all I need. Is the 505 hard to find? There aren't any currently listed on A'gon.
I have so many suggestions now, I'm going to have to make a spread sheet to keep track of them :) I talked with a local dealer last night who I trust and have done a lot of business with in the past and he recommended a Yamaha that he carries.
I was kind of wondering if B&K had...
How do the feature sets of the older models compare to the new ones? Are the DAC's the same? How about the ampliphier sections? I certainly like the idea of picking up a good used one. I've gone that way with a lot of my stuff to my own financial and sonic benefit:)
I have a Pioneer Elite. Can't remember the model #. It has Coax out. I use the digital out to my pre/pro so I can't comment on the DAC's in the changer, but it sounds very good the way I use it. It was around $450 new.
I checked out the Marantz website and it looks like my local Tweeter carries their products. Not a store I go to much. I'll probably do a Marantz, Denon, Integra, Pioneer comparison.
I've never heard the Marantz or NAD. The local dealers I usually go to must not carry them. I'll have to look around for a dealer. Do you know which of the big chains carry them?
So the X10D is a 2ch analog tube preamp? Then you are mainly comparing it to whatever preamp you are using for your DVD player (assuming you are using the analog output of your DVD player). I still think the biggest difference in the sound for CD's between a DVD player and a CD player comes...
Cutting down on the boxes is a goal, so I'm pretty set on a receiver. (It will also help to deflect the Wife criticism due to all of the boxes in my theater set-up) I'm not at all familiar with Marantz or NAD receivers. I'm vaquely familiar with Integra (there is a new one out right?), Denon...
Wilborn, I'm not familiar with that Musical Fidelity piece, but from your question, I'm guessing that it is an outboard DAC? If so, then the answer to your question is a big depends... On how good the cd player and it's DAC's are vs. the quality of the transport in the DVD player and the...
I would have done a few things differently.
1) Designed in some sort of hush box for my projector. It's mounted on the ceiling and while not too loud, I sometimes find the fan noise distracting.
2) Run DVI cable to the projector. When I finally get around to doing this it is going to be...
Having completed the contruction of a theater in my basement about 9 months ago, I now have two theater systems in my house. The main one in the theater is a full-blown audiophile system. The second one in my family room is also very good, but the kind of use it gets now really makes some of the...
If I could have floorstanders as my rears, you bet my a@# I would (mostly for music). Unfortunately, there is no way I could talk my wife into that one. I also have small kids and it just wouldn't work in my room. The 802's upfront with your existing 803's as rears, sounds like a great set-up.
It's been a while, but I listened to the bronze and gold LCR versions. As I recall, there certainly was a difference, but I was considering them for surround use to match up with other speakers, so at the time I really didn't think it would be worthwhile to step up to the golds. (In the end, I...
Ken, Very nice set-up. I was in your shoes about 9 months ago. For me it came down to Aerial, Revel, and Martin Logan. I ended up going with an Aerial set-up, partly due to the sound and partly due to the physical contraints of my room. It was a tough call. At the time Martin Logan had not...
I've listened to Triads in a local store. They sounded great--the best in-walls I have heard, however, as I'm sure you know, they are not cheap. Hopefully you'll be able to find a local place to audition them and let your ears be the judge. For me, it just did not make sense to spend that...
I have an Infocus 7200 and am very happy with it. I've never noticed the geometry issue--If it is there it must not be very noticable, at least to me. I'm very particulary about these things so I'm suprised I have not noticed it. As to the noise. The fan in the projector does make some...
You can mount them close to joists as long as there is enough drywall hanging over the edge of the joists for the bracket that holds the speaker to clamp on to. All in-wall speakers have some sort of clamping device that pinches the drywall and holds the speaker in-place. If your junction box is...
I finally had some time to play with a new filter scheme. I think I have gotten things pretty flat through the critical 20 - 50hz range. It took a good bit of trial and error and re-measurement. Here are the results (mains crossed over at 50hz): Freq SPL 10 79.5 12.5 80.5 15 84.9 17.5...
Thanks Brian, I'll e-mail you the graph once I have punched in the new filters and taken measurements. We're having company over tonight, but hopefully I'll be able to spend some time on it after they leave! Rich
Wayne, I did plot everything out on excel (I just didn't know how to post the graph), so I can follow what you described. I'll set up these filters and see how it goes. Thanks. Rich
Tim: Thanks for the dose of reality... I took some new measurements last night. I set the mains to small and the cross-over at 50hz. I used a different setting on the BFD so that there were no filters engaged. Things stay pretty much the same through the cross-over point. The null at 71hz...
For crown molding, I use a 16ga finish nailer with an angled magazine (allows you to get into corners and hard to reach places). It accepts nails up to 2 1/2" I also have an 18ga brad nailer that I use for smaller trim, panel molding etc. It would not be sufficient for crown.
Wayne, Thanks for your detailed feedback. As Brian points out, when it comes to placement I may be screwed, as the subs are in a custom cabinet. My only placement option may be to add a THIRD sub... But before I go there I'd like to make the best of what I have. As you point out, I was...
I've been busy trying to set-up my BFD this weekend for my Tumults. I have two Tumults in 18" sealed enclosures with a QSC PLX3402 amp and LT. Measurements at the listening position using Stryke CD and Radio Shack SPL meter w/ corr. values are below. Seems like a very flat response other...
I don't have any experience with those amps, but I think one of the best speaker set-ups for that kind of money is the Revel F-30 with the c-30 center. I did some listening to them (the f-30's) pair with Classe CAM-350 monoblocks--Awesome. I personnally have Aerial 7B's with the CC3B center...
