I had bought that EWF album in hopes it would have the quad mix on the 5.1 multichannel layer. I already had "Hot Buttered Soul" on a Fantasy CD but I would like to hear the SACD to make the comparision. Another MoFi favorite is "3rd Stage" by Boston.
2 - a small single pixel green line along the bottom of the screen I have the same issue with the 805 on standard video sources. But my TV underscans a bit anyway and I sit far back from it as to not see the line.
The reason it's quieter is because you're not listening to the 3 other channels. There is no 5.1 folddown stereo mix on the DVD-A. If you want stereo, the PCM tracks are your only choice.
I think every version of "Kind of Blue" released since the gold Mastersound CD have been speed corrected. Just ordered "Duke" by Genesis SACD/DVD, if it sounds as good as my vinyl, I'll be getting other selections.
I caught the 3 hour marathon on NBC(taking a note from Sci-Fi perhaps) and found the show interesting. Don't know the whole storyline to the show but I'm hooked now.
I believe that review refers to the multi-channel version of TOTO IV. As for myself, I like it(I got the stereo-only SACD) and it sounds very close to my import vinyl. That album will never be a bass intensive show-off disc but it's worlds better than the horribly bright CBS Mastersound gold CD.
Crystal Ball is pretty good for the material that is-outtakes from the symbol album, extended jams and a couple of live tracks(mine had a 4th disc of acoustic material). But do yourself a favor and seek out "Dirty Mind". The 3-disc compilation disc is fine, too but it does not have the highly...
By chance, I got "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits on DualDisc. I had been holding out for a price drop on the SACD. I like what I heard so far on the linear PCM tracks but haven't listened to the 5.1 tracks yet. Now mulling over getting the Talking Heads Brick set...
Does DualDisc count as a high-res format? Or extended resolutation audio? Anyway, I got "Dynamite" by Jamiroquai to replace purchased downloaded tracks from iTunes. Last true hi-res purchase was "Hydra" by Toto fairly cheaply.

"That's The Way of the World" is on my wish list but I can't bring myself to cough up $28 for a CD that I have purchased twice(original CBS/Sony Japan and Legacy re-mastered with bonus tracks).
I would get EWF That's The Way of the World if it had a 5.1 mix of its quad version. While not a surround music fan, I do remember this one because my brother had the quad 8-track when I was small and I used to listen to it all the time. Still not sure why MoFi got this title and Sony/CBS...
Paul, the edits appear on the surround sound mix and I have only the stereo disc. I read Robinson's review and we are not hearing the same disc. The high frequencies he complains about on the SACD coud be applied to the gold Mastersound disc. We do agree upon the vinyl being the reference...
TOTO IV. I like it. Sounds much more natural and cleaner than the harshly bright gold Mastersound CD it replaced. The SACD sounds close to the vinyl(which I also have). The Mastersound CD has more distinct stereo imaging than the SACD(stereo-not multichannel version).
