Hi, I was away from this project for a while. Just wanted to verify that this surround replacement will work ok before I order. I measured the diameter of the cone itself to be 5,7/8" and the outer is just shy of 8,1/4".
A friend of mine has some speakers that got damaged while in storage. The foam on the woofers has completely rotted away. Here's the details I could extract about the speakers: Janus Series 3 - Made By Mittom Industries Woofer is 8 1/4" total diameter Speaker is a ported 3-way design...
Sorry to anyone who e-mailed me. I'm no longer able to sell at this price, the shipping to the US was calculated wrong and it would end up costing me too much to ship to make it worth my while:frowning:.
WITHDRAWN I have for sale a Paradigm CC-170 v3. This is a horizontal mtm style speaker that sits on top of most medium sized or bigger TVs. It is in excellent overall condition. In fact, the only difference I noticed from a new model is a small smudge on the tweeter that doesn't affect sound...
Thought I'd update this a bit since I got new equipment: Here's the new test equipment. Pioneer DV-578 Universal DVD player connected via digital coax to a Musical Fidelity X-DAC. The DAC is connected via nice DIY RCA cables to a Cambridge Audio Azur 540a stereo integreated amp and the output...
Yeah I suppose the definition of a bookhshelf speaker may not be the same to everyone. Many might not consider my Aidre HE 10.1s to be bookshelf speakers. They are relatively large and have a 10" mid-woofer.
I should clarify what I mean with positioning too. Since the Klispch speakers use horn-tweeters their high frequency response is somewhat distributed in a small range. So instead of aiming the speakers directly at the listener, try aiming them more in a straight forward fashion. Good luck!
I've found that amplifiers have alot less effect on overall tonality then the speakers. If you find they are too bright you can play around with their positioning. As well, you might want to experiment with placing items in your room that can warm up the sound, such as rugs or curtains.
Definetely. I've got Adire Audio HE 10.1s (95.5 db/w/m) powered by 30 clean watts per channel and the headroom is amazing. It sounds so effortless and I've never had the amp run out of juice.
There are 2-way bookshelf designs that can do this as well. My Adire Audio HE 10.1s are a bookshelf stlye design but are capable of high SPL. They are also 95.5 db/w/m which is very efficient by most standards. Covers 60Hz to 20 kHz quite well too. However, I can see what you're saying with...
If you wanted just a 5.1/7.1 I'd go bookshelves all the way around and a nice sub. I might consider bigger speakers only if you wanted to run 2-channel only.
I've been doing some DIY but it's mostly smaller electronics. Headphone amp, 24V regulated Power supply and currently a USB to S/PDIF convertor. I do alot of cables myself too. I have some Adire HE 10.1s now, but I feel kind of dirty to admit I bought them pre-built. But in all fairness I...
I recently acquired a set of Adire Audio HE 10.1s and decided to post up some of my observations on this particular DIY kit. I would describe these speakers has having a forward and musical sound. At first I was skeptical of the ability of a 10" 2-way speaker to play well in the mid-range...
There's a meter I've used at college before that is used for measuring AC power. I believe it has one set of leads that go in series with the speaker to get the current, it also has two leads that go in parallel to get the voltage. It takes this values and multiplies them to get overall power.
Hi there, This isn't really a DIY but let's see if we can help. 1) Do you get sound from other applications on your PC? 2) Does your DVD software have a volume control?
Another vote for Grado here. My current Grados are SR-325s with a slew of mods. I like the aluminum enclosures of the 325(and the Alessadro MS-2) which seem much more solid than the lower-end Grados. I've replaced the cable with a 4x20gauge, sliver-plated, teflon coated braided cable with a...
We recently made one for my parents that was about 6 feet tall. I'll get some pics up soon. They had to go tall since they didn't want a double-wide one like I have. It is a little less stable than mine but not too bad. Adding a TV as low as possible on the rack helps out too.
Oh definetely. It's not a good idea to make a sweeping generalizations like 2 way beats 3-way. Each have their own benefits/drawbacks and a good design is a good design regardless.
Really? Id imagine a 2-way design for about the same price would trounce the 3-way. I mean you've got the costs of building the speakers spread across more, lower quality components for a 3-way. But I guess that depends on a lot of things.
