Face/Off did look pretty bad. I usually don't notice these sorts of things(I still have trouble spotting EE on a lot of titles), but it was painfully obvious on that one. And that was while watching it on my 32" LCD screen. I don't wanna imagine how bad it looks on my 60" SXRD.
Casino Royale - It's the movie that made me go format neutral. The video and audio are terrific, although the extras left a little to be desired. 2001: A Space Odyssey - Classic movie, great transfer, and a solid PCM track. Tons of extras too. Ratatouille - It was a blind buy, so I was...
"Crap titles"? If you compare exclusive HD-DVD titles to exclusive Blu-ray ones due out between now and September, I don't think there's any comparison. HD-DVD has a much better and more diverse selection.
Buena Vista's been doing some solid work lately. Chicago looked and sounded terrific. Plus they're using AVC and VC-1 more frequently, so we're getting most if not all of the SD-DVD extras ported over. I'm looking forward to The Prestige.
I agree. This is a great looking and sounding disc. I spent a crapload of money upgrading to a Pioneer Elite receiver that could output 7.1 PCM, but it's titles like this that make it worth it. About my only complaints are the picture does get very grainy at times(although that's likely due...
Thank you, Robert. I see people on many forums trash HD titles simply because they're not demo material. When it comes to most catalog titles, my main interest is does it show a significant improvement over the SD-DVD version? That's why I don't mind owning admittedly inferior looking HD-DVDs...
I got it in the mail this weekend and watched it. It looks fine to me. Is it a great-looking HD-DVD? No. Does it blow away the SD-DVD? I think so. I had to crank up the volume to hear the dialogue, but otherwise I have no complaints. A worthwhile upgrade if you like the movie.
The remixes on DAF are definitely different than the mono track. The most blatant example is the "007 and Counting" sequence with the laser satellite blowing stuff up. There are new sound FX in the remix. As for The Spy Who Loved Me, I don't believe the previous SE had the original mix. The...
Ditto. The second place I tried had it in stock and held it for me til I showed up to buy it. As for the HD-DVD, it stuttered a few times during the movie, including at the very beginning when young Bruce is getting swarmed by the bats in the cave. I'm not sure if this is due to the Dolby...
I don't see it being a combo. It's nearly 2 1/2 hours in length. It's got the IME feature. An hour-long documentary presumably ported over from the SD-DVD. And a Dolby TrueHD track.
The back of the DVD case even calls it Raiders of the Lost Ark. The title hasn't been changed. And regarding CGI alterations, I heard somewhere that Lucas wanted to do it, but Spielberg wouldn't allow it.
Will KOH include all the extras from the 4 disc SD-DVD set? Even on a dual layer Blu-rry disc, I doubt they'll be able to fit the extended cut of the film along with lossless audio and not have to drop at least some of the extras. Unless they make it a 2-disc set.
I've always suspected we'd see it released around the same time as Superman Returns. And that title's reportedly due out in mid to late November. And on the subject of better titles, Ron, I think yesterday's press release by WB qualifies. T3 and Adventures of Robin Hood might not cause people...
Nice! Please let all the extras and mono track get ported over for the HD-DVD release of Adventures of Robin Hood. A TrueHD track on T3 would be nice, but it looks unlikely at this point.
There's an upside to waiting though. We might get TrueHD audio tracks on more titles if they're delayed. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is supposed to have one. T3 likely won't if the recently leaked back cover of the HD-DVD is any indication, but the jury's still out on Batman Begins and...
Given John Carpenter's hatred for Pan & Scam, it's gotta be a typo. As for the titles themselves, props to Universal for all the support it's giving HD-DVD. Out of Sight and Spartacus will be mine!
