Thanks Greg for your reports. I bought the 10 inch Dayton about 3 weeks ago and it sounds great to me. I'm no expert though, so I'm glad to read your reports.
My TV does not indicate the audio format on screen but almost all channels on the Dish or Direct TV satellites are in Stereo and some in Dolby Digital (HBO for example). If you are getting a decent picture then the audio signal will be strong enough to produce a stereo signal to the TV.
I wondered the same thing when looking to get started. I had a pair of fairly decent Infinity Reference 3's for my stereo system. The cheaper HTIB systems sounded fairly good to me when I listened to them in stores. Hoever I stuck with my Infinity speakers, added the Dayton 10 inch sub-woofer...
Mike Oldield Live In Berlin- Millenium Concert -- DVD Cut 11 has a large choir, lush string orchestra, two synthesizers, booming LARGE percussion sections, and heavy electrical guitar ....all in one musical piece. Cut 1, a live version of Tubular Bells, has some very low bass lines that are a...
My Dayton arrive last week. It was well packaged for shipping and took about 5 days to make the 400 mile trip via UPS ground service. My only other experiences with a sub_woofer were my old 12 inch Radio Shack passive sub and the Polk_Audio 50 watt 10 inch powered sub. The Polk lasted a few...
Having installed a new receiver with a fairly small LCD-type display, I wondered if any company makes a receiver that has a video chip on board that outputs to unused video lines on a TV? It sure would be nice to adjust the various receiver controls via large display on the TV or have the "Dolby...
I have my main seating position , a couch, against a wall. No place to stick a 6th speaker (rear). I don't want to add something IN or ON the wall, I was considering a small speaker on top of the couch . Any suggestions?
I use the optical output from the Dish PVR (Dish 510) to the optical inputs of my receiver. I hook the video output from the PVR directly to the TV. I also use the regular audio output from the PVR ( Left and Right) to the regular audio inputs on the TV so that my wife and kids can watch TV...
An update. I did buy the gold pins from Radio Shack and they too kept coming disconnected. The surround speaker posts would not "snap" into a place that permanently held the pins in place. This was a royal pain since I would lose the connection if I moved the entertainmnet center that the...
FYI...
"Variable Audio Output Jacks- this allows the amount of audio signal being sent from your TV to your receiver or amp to be varied with the volume control on your TV remote control. This effectively allows you to vary the volume level of your audio system as you play your TV without the...
I'm slowly getting all this HT stuff after playing around for a week and also do a lot of reading here. A couple of things are still confusing. When my receiver spots a Dolby Digital signal on my satellite dish the receiver display indicates that the L C and R speakers have signals plus the...
Thanks for the reminder Mark and Ralph, I have my new receiver plugged into a surge protector but not my sub, never thought about it for some dumb reason. Will now though.:b
last week , when I had the same problem as a rookie, it was simply that I did not have the speakers wire making a good connection at the receiver. Can you hook the surround speakers to the L or R speaker connections to the receiver ? See if they play the L and R signals when brifly connected.
Maybe a hassle, but can you disconnect it and take to a friend's house. That way you can try the receiver on other speakers, other speaker wires, and other electrical supply. Does it cut out even after you have had the receiver off for a few hours? It would seem to mr that if it was a heating...
I have owned a Pansonic SAHE100 for the past week, seems good so far. It replaced a 10 year old Sony Surround sound receiver. The old Sony receiver had a few more sound tailoring controls (bass, treble, and mid ) than the Panasonic, but other than that I'm happy to be in the Dolby Digital and...
Is it just my weird brain or what ? My Panasonic SAHE100 has a volume control and when volume is increased the display goes from -80DB DOWNWARDS to -50DB , -30DB and so on (have not cranked it all the way). Wouldn't this indicate the decibels are DECREASING thus getting quieter?
Thanks, the Dayton arrived today. Looks nice and is working really well, better than the 50Watt Polk did and a lot better than my Radio Shack 100W 12 inch passive Sub. I appreciate all the help I received via this forum.
Thanks. I think the Limey blokes from Coldplay cheated on their DVD. It was labeled DTS and the DVD Player even allowed me to select DTS but the DTS light on my receiver was never activated. I switched DVDs to the Binonic Movie , it lit the DTS light on the receiver. Sound was better than DD...
I'm new to Dolby Digital and DTS, a couple of music related DVD's that I have (not DVD_A) offer a choice of Dolby Digital or DTS for audio formats. Which do you guys usually choose? The DTS sound appear lower and not as good as DD on the couple of discs I have tried but I may not have my...
I agree with the comment about earlier Radiohead. For interesting vinyl, try Tubular Bells (orginal 1973 release) by Mike Oldfield maybe The Clash "Sandadista" too. Andy.
Thanks Richard. The Dayton subwoofer specs say "and a 12 dB electronic low pass filter that is continuously variable from 40 to 160 Hz: " So, to match the receiver and sub settings looks like I would choose 150 Hz, since the receiver has that as one of the choices and the sub does not go up...
