    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

In case no one has seen the latest news over at AoD, Geneon USA is closing up shop on their DVD distribution and sales. Titles scheduled for 11/05 or earlier will be released; everything after 11/11 has been canceled. This makes me quite sad. Pioneer/Geneon is my largest distributor of shows (67...

I finally finished up rewatching Martian Successor Nadesico this weekend. I'm not sure what I'll be watching next. John.

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I finished up Cowboy Bebop (including the movie), and started rewatching Martian Successor Nadesico. One thing I noticed (other than that the art quality goes down somewhat on my 61") is that the subtitles on the first disk weren't very good. That is, they don't look very good when viewed on a...

I finished up Vandread, and am four disks into rewatching Cowboy Bebop. John.

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I've watched a few disks in the last couple of days. I finished off Mahoromatic (along with the Summer Special), blew through rewatching Hellsing, and started on Vandread. John.

Ali: The Geneon Lupin III disks appear to be a partial release of the second series. Geneon's official site hasn't been updated in some time (it still says Pioneer), and it only has information on the first 10 disks, so I would guess that Lupin III wasn't a money maker for them. John.

My anime activity for the last few days: Ergo Proxy volume five: More good stuff. I'm still trying to figure this series out, but it's an interesting ride to say the least. Ghost in the Shell: SAC - Solid State Society: I enjoyed this one a lot. I wasn't blown away or anything, but it was...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Scrapped Princess is a pretty good series. The ending wasn't quite what I expected when I started watching the show. I started rewatching Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The EE is noticeable if you look (on my 61"), but I generally am able to ignore it. John.

Jason: I think when you do the free shipping, they lower the priority of your order. I've had them take over a week before stuff gets shipped out. I usually do the next one up unless I need something right away. John.

Jason: What kind of shipping did you do? John.

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Jason: Yep. I totally agree. Re DDD: In general, I've found that they are really good with stuff that they have in stock. On occasion, they don't get anime titles in on time, or have totally incorrect release dates, and they have some troubles getting B-level titles (like Tenchi Muyo! OVA...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

My (DLP)TV finally got fixed this morning. Woo hoo! I finished up watching Stellvia last night (on the portable DVD player). The ending was pretty good. It was basically a happy ending, although I would probably have been both really confused and pleasantly surprised if it had a Berserk-style...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Jason: Actually, Submarine 707R is unfinished, at least according to ANN. I really enjoyed what they had, and I'd really like for them to complete the series, but I won't hold my breath. As for DDD, they've gotten a lot flakier lately (last six months or so). My policy with them is that I...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I've had a busy 2.5 weeks, anime-wise: I watched all of Gate Keepers: I ended up enjoying this series more than I thought I would. It's set in 1969-70, and most of the mechanical stuff is delightfully low-tech. The enemies are faceless (which was intended), except for the leaders. They are an...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Not much going on for me, anime-wise. I started rewatching Planetes this past weekend, plus I've still got a couple of volumes of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam that need to be watched. My order from TRSI came yesterday, plus another order from DDD. Counting all the disks I haven't watched yet, I think...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I watched volume four of Ergo Proxy this weekend. The episodes were unusual, to say the least. One episode has Victor in a game show, with life or death consequences. This episode is also used to give the viewer a some of the background about why the world is the way it is. Another one gives...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

It's been a while since I posted an update, so here goes: Inu Yasha: I finished up season three, and watched the first two volumes of season four. IY is just one of those series that yuou either like or don't like. It's certainly not the end-all-be-all, but it's fun in measured doses. I also...

I finished off Divergence Eve this weekend. Despite the fanservice character designs, there actually was more than a little substance to the show. I think if it weren't for the fanservice, I would have liked it just a little bit more. The follow up series, Misaki Chronicles seems a little more...

I finished up Full Metal Panic - The Second Raid last night. Excellent series. I think I like it even better than the original. The fourth disk includes the OVA as an extra, which was an added treat. 'A-', highly recommended. I also watched volume one of Divergence Eve the other day. The...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I've gotten through volume three of Full Metal Panic - The Second Raid. I'm really enjoying it. While the comedy of FUMOFFU was pretty good, it totally left out the reason why Sousuke is guarding Kaname in the first place. I will be ordering the final volume in the next couple of days. Oh...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I've gotten through a few more anime disks in the last few days: Inu Yasha vols. 20-22: More of the same IY stuff. Some decent action, more bad-guy badness. Gilgamesh volume one: I found the first volume to be rather interesting. The visual style is very different from the usual anime...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I finished up four series this weekend: Blue Gender: My initial reaction was correct, and this series really is a lot like Genesis Climber Mospaeda. There was a lot of character development in the two leads, and Merlene's growing humanity ends up matching Yuji's loss of humanity. This works...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I watched volumes one and two of Blue Gender yesterday. It seems similar in theme to Genesis Climber Mospaeda, i.e., aliens invade the Earth, humans escape the Earth, humans try and retake the Earth. The aliens (Blue), are shown to be totally inhuman, which is at the same time startling and...
