I watched F911 at an almost completely packed 12:30am showing Friday night. The opening scenes and the first few segments evoked laughter, groans and curses from myself as well as my fellow moviegoers. During the second half of the movie, I think you could have heard a pin drop. Personally...
Sounds like a problem with the Java engine. Both Microsoft and Sun supply a Java Virtual Machine. Details on how to acquire both are here. Sometimes I have good luck with one, sometimes the other works better. Also, go to Microsoft's Windows Update site and install all of the Critical...
I used to have a subscription to SGHT but I stopped receiving issues after a few months. Not sure why but I didn't miss it too much. I thought that most of their reviews were in the insanely expensive range and although I don't mind a few of those once in a while, I always wished they would do...
I doubt a moderator would give us a list of e-mail addresses (privacy, we could be spammers, etc). Our best chance would probably be to write up an e-mail and have them send it out for us. Either way, it wouldn't hurt to ask them for suggestions on getting the word out to see if others are...
Hey Jonathan, Congrats on the Clearaudio. I was debating between the Champion and the Rega P3 when I got a great deal on the VPI (which I couldn't resist, it's such a sexy table). The upgradeability of the Champion is very appealing. I think the V15x is about the most sensible audiophile...
Hey Mat: Kudos on the masters. I'm currently beating myself up for not pursuing a degree and I'm thinking about going back to school. My current setup isn't spectacular but I really enjoy it: Projector: Sanyo Z1 DVD Player: Liteon LVD-2001 Preamp: Audio Research LS3 Amp: Audio...
Scott: That's a great rig! Did you get an RCM too? I went with a VPI HW-16.5 and it works like a champ. I would also recommend the Disc Doctor brushes and cleaning fluid. Hank: I actually don't know any other HT or Audio nuts out here and I'm hoping to find a few. I really enjoyed...
Nils! I didn't even think anybody else had ever heard of "The Killers". I watched it on TCM last year when I was on a classic movie binge and LOVED it. Do you know if it was ever released on DVD? I could only find it on VHS and I threw my VCR into the closet almost two years ago... -Mike...
Does anyone have an address for Rudy's? I don't know my way around Austin too well and an address will make it easier for me to map it out... I'm assuming lunch is around noon... Thanks, -Mike...
I was wondering if any of the Austin HTF members have or have seen a Sanyo Z1 in action. I've seen some good reviews and the price fits my budget. Thanks, -Mike...
The only one I have heard is the MoFi of DSOTM. I think it sounds better than the "Dream On" version, but not as good as the 20th anniversary version. None of them come close to the original UK Harvest LP, though. -Mike...
Put me down as sticking with 2 channels. Most of my home listening is vinyl anyway. I'll explore SACD/DVD-A when companies like Rotel, Adcom, NAD, etc start putting out good 2 channel hi-rez players. No Sony for me, thanks. Also, I won't pay a penny more for the hi-rez versions than I would...
The best way to clean them is with a vacuum record cleaning machine and Disc Doctor brushes. I use a VPI HW16.5 and Disc Doctor fluid and it works wonders. As long as the record isn't scratched or groove damaged, it'll be pretty much noise-free.
Granted, spending $600-$700 in record cleaning...
I think the Bartok Concerto was Reiner/CSO but I can't recall the others. They were mostly "classic" performances from well-regarded composers and orchestras. I went by the exact catalog numbers recommended in the "NPR Guide..." except for a few that were Stereophile "Records to Die For"...
