Thanks. I guess this is not a common problem with PS3 then. Mine (40GB)is pretty loud in vertical position, and louder in horizontal position. I might have to call their tech support service.

The only advence surround mode i occasionally use is 6-channel stereo (The two-channel direct mode is most frequently used for music cds).

Earl, JBL N38II are floor standing speakers, not small speakers. Daniel, I have a pair of N38II and am very happy with them. I also use JBL NSP-1 as a center speaker and four surround and surround back speakers.
