Kieran,
I use this scene as one of my testing points for subs and showing off my system to friends and relatives. My whole room vibrates during the pod race scene in Phantom Menace. It gives me a sense of actually being in the pod myself.
Usually I play -10dB below reference during that...
Navid, I have dual Paradigm Servo 15's and a CS+ 20-39. Depending on where you live and what is available to you, you could almost buy 2 CS+ or PC+ 20-39's for the price of 1 PS-15. I have tried the SVS sub with the Paradigm Reference speakers I own (100's, 40's & CC) and they sound...
Sihan, The Servo 15 had a very slight advantage in dB's over the other 2, the VTF-3 having the least, but my overall favorite for sound was the CS+ 20-39. I feel the 20-39 is the most versatile for both music and HT. I have dual Servo 15's and VTF-3's but we only ran 1 of each during our...
I am looking forward to your little review/comparisons on these subs. I myself have done the similar comparisons with a SVS 20-39CS+, 16-46CS+, a Hsu VTF-3 and a Servo 15.
I had 9 guys over for some pizza and a few beverages of our choice, which lasted for an entire weekend :)
It was a blast.
Sound is subjective to the individual Ron. That has always been my point when comparing any brand speakers or subs. In the end result *I* am the only opinion that matters, like you said.
I am just trying to better understand the mind-set of the average consumer, in what they are looking for...
Bolivar G,
It's not the lesser of 2 evils.
The VTF-3 is a fantastic sub. IMO it's apples to oranges with almost any SVS sub because it's a box to a cyclinder.
I honestly cant make up my mind which sub I like better. Everytime I get a new DVD or CD I play it over and over on both subs...
I'm far from an expert, I just reached the level of novice. :)
Tom V. owner of SVS, posted these stats on another thread.
HSU VTF-3/$849/20hz-100dB, 31hz 112dB
Velodyne HGS12/$2000/issue 85/20hz-100dB, 31hz-107dB
You could add a 2nd VTF-3 and still save a couple hundred off of buying...
Dustin is dead on, which is getting annoying :)
If I move my 20-39 under 3ft, I my picture on my tube starts to turn. My sub is 4ft away just to be safe.
They are both excellent subs. IMO one does not out do the other. It's just personal preference, and yes I not only have heard them both, but I own them both. As far as comparing them to a HGS 18.....? Depending on where you buy the Velodyne HGS 18, you could buy 2 or 3 VTF-3's and 20-39PC+'s...
No Jason, 2 guys out of hundreds of post have mentioned the bloating in this range, and one of those guys, firepinch, has solved the problem. It has to do with their room modes and not the VTF-3. I had to use a P-EQ with my SVS sub to tame my room. Now I have no bloat at any hz with the SVS...
There are a ton of internet companies for speakers/subs.
Here are a few, some I am guessing at.
www.hsuresearch.com
www.svsubwoofers.com
www.vmpsaudio.com
www.adire.com
www.audioc.com
www.partsexpress.com
Rule of thumb is to put the most money of your budget in your speakers (especially your mains if music is the primary reason for buying them) then hardware. I have never owned or even listened to anything in the B&W line below CDM's. However I do own or have auditioned everything in the CDM...
Gabriel, My current (basement) HT room is 16x20 but I am altering it. I am going to make it longer but I'm not sure by how much yet. I have 12 feet of space behind it that I can borrow from. I have light running along the sides of the walls in the ceiling They function off of one remote...
Can you give me some info on which brands to look into or sites to do research on? There is only one high end electronics store in my area and their projectors are way too much money. Starting at $8,000.
Bob R.,
With the B&W Naut line I have HTM1, 803's, 804's, 805's and I'm still undecided on a sub but currently I am using a VTF-3. Hardware is a Anthem AVM 20 Preamp and Bryston Amps.
In my 2nd setup I have Paradigm Studio 100's, 40's, CC and 2 Servo 15's with a Denon 3802 and an Anthem MCA...
