I have been listening to speakers with a friend who wants to spend about a $1000 for a pair of floorstanders, and so far the B&W 603's are the winner. We listened to Polks (not sure what number) and Paradigm monitor series (Monitor 9) so far. Want to check out the PSB T55 or T65 though.

Every receiver I've seen has a mute button - I think it is very rare not to have one. You shouldn't have any problem getting a mute button when you get a new receiver.
