Sorry for this very basic question, but what's the difference? I suspect gray screens will require brighter projectors. Will they? I'm not exactly an HT newbie, but I've never used front projection. This will be my first time... Thanks a lot for the help.
Ok. So now I know how a tiny typo error can get me into trouble. I turned out to be someone who promotes illegal DVD copies. For the record, I was refering to Episode I... ONE. You know, where the pod race is. It's a good thing that Patrick is quick to close out that thread. Can someone...
Did the front, center and surround (and maybe subwoofer) blend well?
My copycat friend who bought the ML Scenario when he discovered that I did :D now plans to go "full Martin".
I only heard MartinLogans in two-channel pairs, and now wondering if HT experts here have tried a full MartinLogan...
I guess my DVD player's lens is getting dirty, so I would like to know: 1. Is a cleaning disc (with brush and fluid) recommended/safe? 2. Are there any other safe way to clean without opening the transport assembly? 3. For a DVD/SACD player, do I need a DVD cleaning disc, or a cleaning...
I thought that my search for a speaker that is both finely detailed and musical would keep on going 'round in circles. But I'm thankful for the day that I ran into a demo of MartinLogan speakers. To put it simply, I think I'm hooked.
My Boring Story
My first "high-end" speaker was the B&W...
Different people, different opinions... but there seems to be certain audio companies that are very often not appreciated (to say the least) by many people (not necessarily the majority), especially in forums such as this, even if professional reviewers actually rank them among the best out...
I posted a week ago (or so) regarding my Sony DVP 9000ES's disc tray being a bit "lazy"... I mean not treading out properly when I eject a disc. Almost completely out, it stops ejecting, then the sensing mechanism pulls the tray back in again!
First, I thought that happens all the time. Now I...

Thanks for your time in answering yet another one of my regular surveys.
This is not about selecting speakers for purchase, just an exchange of ideas. :)
I just got my Scenario, and when I looked at the contents of the "accessory kit", I found no spikes. I just got the normal footers attached to the speakers. I read several reviews that mentioned that their review pair of 'Logans (even the entry-level Scenarios) came with a set of ETC spikes...
I mean those that you wouldn't hesitate to buy if you had tons of cash to spare.
If so, pls name it/them and tell us why you think they're well worth their price.
Personally, if I were a spoiled rich kid, I wouldn't mind buying a $70K+ MartinLogan Statement E2 system... if I had the...
I've been hearing that the DVP 9000ES is soon being replaced. Or already was?
If so, it better be as well-constructed and beautiful. I still can't imagine why Sony's new flagship player for multichannel SACD (SCD-XA777ES) seems much inferior in industrial design and build quality, but not...
... well, almost. We're still waiting for the ML Scenarios that he has ordered. Actually, it will work with phantom center as his apartment living room is not big enough to accommodate a center speaker. And he'll be using some "box" speakers (a pair of Sonus Faber Concertino Homes, which btw I...
After 5 months of frequent use (I watch one movie a day on average, and listen to CDs a LOT), my 9000ES stopped playing SACDs. When I put in an SACD, it only allows me to play the CD layer. Sometimes I need to hold the PLAY button while the disc is loading, just so that I can play the disc. I...
I asked this coz when my non-audiophile friends saw electrostats such as MartinLogans or planar-magnetics such as Magnepan for the first time, they just couldn't believe they were actually speakers.
To quote one instance (seeing a "static" -- i.e., not connected -- display of Magnepan 1.6QR)...
As some of you might already know, I'm helping set up a friend's HT, and from the two options it seems that Aerius i, being the higher-class model, is the natural choice. However, we went to the same place yesterday for another audition (the first one was a mess, as I said in a recent post)...
I just auditioned the MartinLogan Scenario in a home theater setup powered by the Marantz SR-14EX receiver. That place wasn't a MartinLogan dealer, so they only got the Scenario demo and some discontinued models like Aerius i and SL3. I've read rave reviews about both the Scenario and the...
There's no question about their abilities in reproducing music but I haven't heard a complete Martin Logan HT system. I have questions about newer designs like the Ascent and Aeon... Has MartinLogan solved the problem with rolled-off highs in earlier designs? Does the bass really lack...
A friend was asking me, but I couldn't comment on them as I haven't heard them at all!
I have no doubts that my preference of B&Ws will not be affected even if I were to hear these Logans (well, maybe :D), but my friend really likes them just because they look too cool, and to that I agree...
After auditioning the B&W Nautilus 804, just out of curiosity I listened to the B&W Signature 800 and compared it to the Revel Salon. I thought they sound very similar. I probably wouldn't be able to tell one from the other on a blind test. But when comparing either of these to, say, a Sonus...
As soon as my N804 arrives, I will try to see if allowing them to reproduce the LFE instead of my sub will be a good idea IN MY SMALLISH ROOM. I'm sure the N804 will have no problem extending low in the bass IN MY ROOM, BECAUSE OF ROOM LIFT, which in my room starts to be noticeable early at 60...
I just did my final comparison (before the big decision) between the Nautilus 804 and CDM 9NT. Some of you might remember that I posted a thread asking for suggestion what to listen for during comparison, and I thank everyone who participated in that thread.
I just figured maybe some other...
Two hypothetical speakers that go for the same price, one sounds a bit better than another, but the former looks boring (looks much cheaper than it is), while the latter is very gorgeous (high-WAF, looks very expensive). In this case, will you be willing to get the good-looking speaker...
I've been to the showroom comparing these two for several times now, and it seems that I still can't identify any significant difference between the two... at least nothing that I consider worth spending extra $900 for. Many friends have been telling me there should be more difference than...
This is my main candidate for my next purchase of front speakers. However, upgrading from a standmount speaker (CDM 1NT) I'm especially cautious about boominess of floorstanders when placed only 1 foot away from the wall behind them. As I use a long-wall placement (short-wall placement is NOT...
When you listen to demos of such ultra-expensive speakers, does it convince you that it's gotta be much more expensive than sub-$10K speakers? If so, what is the first thing about them that "grabs" you?
To me, this is the most important MEASURABLE characteristic that I look for in a speaker. IMO, if this is not flat, you're not really hearing the true timbre of instruments. Because high-end audio is about reproducing the recording with complete honesty, the tonal response should be neutral...
Currently, my votes are for both the $2500 Sonus Faber Grand Piano Home (in piano gloss) and $2600 B&W CDM 9NT (in natural cherry)... depending on the house furniture. How about you?
I don't have any chance to listen to a mix-n-match between these two series. They are installed separately in permanent setup at the showroom.
In particular, I'm interested to know whether the CDM 1NT can perform surround duties with the N804 + HTM2 in front, with seemless integration.
I'm wondering what is the consensus among HT/audio enthusiasts.
My opinion is that the B&W Nautilus series has a bit of treble lift which makes it sound even more detailed.
Or is it just because my Sonus Faber Concertino Home is just too dark that the B&W sounded too bright in comparison...
