    Built-in cabinetry

I built my cabinets into my wall with pockets for the tower speakers and TV (large enough for my speakers and a 57" widescreen). The wall size was just short of 12' (11'8" I believe). I made the cabinets 23" deep (my wires coming off of my receiver don't have to have a 90 degree bend) and the TV...

    A/C power cable upgrade

Here is my input, my background is I'm an electrical engineer and I deal with power distribution in data centers. Changing the power cord on your equipment shouldn't affect the performance of the equipment unless there is some extreme circumstance. If the power cord heats up from pulling...

    Need idea on butter dispenser

This isn't really a butter dispenser comment, but does anyone know where or what brand the theater butter is? I love the stuff and would love to have the same flavor at home. Thanks

wall plates, connectors and junction boxes

I used 12GA wire and found a nice plate with binding post that will handel it at Radio Shack, I'm not sure if they have a 2 gang box, The one I have has post for 4 pairs, I don't run my fronts or center channel through it. On another note, for the termination at the speaker I just bought...

    Turntable question

The holes are very small, not screwdriver adjustment. I'm going to get a new belt, but I was wondering if that will fix the problem. Do most belt-drive turntables have the belt go around the plate and motor shaft or do they also have some pulley or guide pins that the belt goes around?

    Turntable question

I have a JVC AL-F350BKX turntable. The belt wasn't installed so I took the plate off to install the belt and it is very loose, and won't turn the plate. The motor turns and everything else seems functional. My question is do I need to replace the belt or am I missing some sort of belt tension...

    JVC 8010 receiver

I decided to go with the JVC, now I just need to decide on the model. My setup is going in the basement that is being I'm finishing right now (in the drywall stage) so I'm a month or 2 away. I'm going to wait and see what the prices do. Right now I'm thinking I'll go with the 8020, I would...

    What surrounds?

By pocket I do mean the speakers would be in the wall with the front flush with the wall. I was wondering changing the sound, would it make a difference if I filled around the speaker with foam or something like that. The other option would be to place the speakers on both sides of the...

    JVC 8010 receiver

I was looking at the JVC website and they came out with the 8020, same as before only with DD EX, DTS ES, and Pro logic II. I did a search and found it a few places for $350. I might end up going with this unit. The Pioneer looks nice but they don't have a basic progressive scan DVD player...

    JVC 8010 receiver

Has anyone here had experience with the JVC 8010 receiver, or the 9010? I can get the 8010 for around $270, it has all of the features I'm looking for. It will be matched up with JBL N38 mains, N center channel and N24 rears. Would this receiver satisfy my "new, first" HT setup.

    What surrounds?

I was planning on making a pocket for the speakers but I didn't know if having the left one in the corner, and the small pocket enclosure would have a bad effect on the speaker sound, my hearings not to good anyway but I don't want to sacrifice the sound. Basically I want to know if it will...

    What surrounds?

I have another question on speaker placement. I have an entertainment wall, a pocket for the RPTV and built in shelving. Should I place the mains next to the RPTV or should I make speaker pockets at the ends of the wall to hold the speakers.

    What surrounds?

Phil, Thanks for the info and links. I will probably go with the sony sub for what I'm looking for.

    What surrounds?

I'm setting up a 5.1 system, maybe a 5.0 for a little while. I have JBL N38s for mains, JBL N center channel. What should I use for surrounds. Will the JBL N24s match up the best with this or should I use N26's? Also is there a difference in sound from the N24s to the N24AW. The AW are...

    New HT equipment

Well I decided to purchase the JBL N38 mains. I really liked the sound of them and with the N II series coming out I got a pretty good deal on them. right now I'm looking for the N series center channel and N24s for my rear speakers. I will probably wait on the sub for a while, only plan on...

    New HT equipment

I'm looking at the JBL NSP-1 set for speakers. I would eventually like to get the N38s for my front mains, but I need to buy everything so I'll probably wait on that. I'm also looking at the sony 12" sub, (I forget the model #). For receiver I want On screen display 5.1 channel input...

    New HT equipment

Is there any other brands that I'm missing that make all 3 of these componets around the same price as Sony and JVC?

    New HT equipment

I'm getting ready to set up my first HT. You can see my layout in the Construction Forum. I'm looking at around a 57" widescreen RPTV, 5.1 speaker setup, progressive scan DVD player, DTS receiver with on-screen display, and then a mega CD changer that can play MP3s off of CD-Rs. I've been...
