Make sure the SB channel is turned on. A way of doing this is going into quick setup and selecting "7.1" (or 7.0 if you don't have a sub).

You can adjust the horizontal positioning of the NGC's picture by starting the console up without a game, going to options, and then screen position. See if this helps anything.
I saw this in a Home Theater magazine earlier this year: You can make your own acoustic panels by wrapping pieces of wood with carpet or similar material. Maybe a real thick blanket would work.
While this isn't exactly related to the topic at hand, I read somewhere, and can confirm, that if you pull one side of the controller torwards you, and push the other side away from you, the face buttons will really tighten up. Almost like you're twisting it, but make sure you don't twist too...
It also has support for for playing MP3s from your computer instead of listening to the on-board radio. Let's hope it supports streaming internet radio... that would be the ultimate!

Army Men 8,789 in 1080i on the next generation's console will still just be another Army Men game. I'd rather have my favorite 'inadequate' SNES/GBA/DC/SAT/NGC (by the next generation's standards) games anyday.
