The dvd edition of this had a huge, glaring error in the main titles. The wrong "reaction chorus" tracks were used as each star's name came onscreen. There are supposed to be cheers for Tony Curtis, whistles for Natalie Wood, and booing for Jack Lemmon. All of this was wrong on the dvd 5.1...
This makes my 3rd post saying the exact same thing: I think my argument holds up very well. I am NOT a photographer, I am NOT an expert, I am NOT an anything but a fan who is in no way shape or form color blind (and I don't mean that sarcastically, as I have friends who are and don't know a...
I see the exact colors on my tv screen as Chuck showed in his comparison. Every bit of that is accurate, as I see it on my home screen equipment. Let us suppose that this is the color that was "intended" on the blu-ray (and we all know I do not believe this), I hate that color. I can't stand...
So many have that "blue hue" only in blu-ray transfers. Why was the previous transfer of King and I on dvd so glorious and beautiful looking in its color scheme I wonder? I am not being sarcastic. I really want to know how a previous transfer looks as good as the dvd of King and I did, and...
Mike, I am not smiling after sampling this release. I honestly have no precedent for it. I have never seen a major studio release of a classic look like this, or color palettes change this drastically from dvd to blu-ray. The King and I especially (though Carousel is a close second) just...
It has been a long while since I posted anything. This warrants it. My two cents as briefly as possible:
Oklahoma Todd-AO--beautiful resolution, as reported but the sound has been processed with great "oomph", but to me in sounds a bit muffled and not as crisp as the lasderdisc and previous...
As I have stated before, I adore this movie, and am looking forward to the release. I see from perusing the thread that people have very strong feelings about the film, but nobody is on the fence. Well, to each his own. (I am the one person alive who has no desire to watch Star Wars, so.....)
I will certainly purchase this release. Sadly, though (I believe I am correct) it won an Oscar for sound, every home video release of Oliver! has had very lackluster sound. Perhaps better elements do not exist, but it certainly does not sound crisp and detailed like other Columbia releases of...
I agree, and made the same comment last night. Later releases of musicals on dvd do not have chapter stops on the songs as they did in the early days. Annoying trend.
This may be a majority choice, but I vote for "Eunice". I think she is the ultimate Carol character because, while created for a sketch comedy show, she is REAL. There isn't another character on the show for me who is real enough to evoke both laughter, tears, and *recognition* in the viewer...
That is the answer, and a good one.
At least it makes sense. It just saddens me that the people most in the know are not always (if ever) involved in these transfers.
I buy all of them, so it isn't that I am refraining from buying.
I own 'em all, flaws and all, I'm just saying that it is a disturbing trend, and not a new one.
Referring to someone above who said that sound effects are also missing. Yes, I recall the laserdisc mix where there was a crash sound rather than the rattling spear during "Take Me To The Fair"
This mix is the identical mix from the old dvd, that has already been identified as "wrong".
I've...
I completely agree.
I ask "Do they need glasses, or do they not know orange from red?"
I sincerely do not understand the brown/sepia hues in the blu-ray classics from Warner.
Immediately, I suspected it was the same old wrong sound mix ported over, and now it has been confirmed.
I am utterly...
For many releases now there has been distortion in Regrave's vocal track of "Take Me To the Fair", during the second verse (Sir Dinidan, I think?) as she is getting on her horse. Again, the entire thing sounds identical to the previous dvd release. I wonder if there is a releaase in history...
OK. My disc arrived by mail this morning. I agree with comments above about the color palette tending toward "brown", more than I have seen in the past. I will not deny that it has never been a film of bandbox colors, but it does indeed lean toward the brown tones present in other Warner...
I agree about the brown tones in the screen captures I saw at dvdbeaver. Music Man was the same...warm and brown, which does seem to be a trend in blu-ray classics so far.
That's what I'm asking. Someone who knows the correct mix must promise to update us soon. None of the reviewers seem familiar enough to know what is changed. One thing I always noted was that I had a long ago vhs version that had a "crash" sound effect during "Take Me To The Fair" when the...
Now that the disc has been released, can someone who is familiar with the various "mixes" of the soundtrack tell us if they are at long last using the correct one, or one that is close to the correct one?
Many of my "holy grail" shows have been released, i'm pleased to say. However, I wish that some studio would release all the series that have been hanging in limbo with only Season one or Season Two released. Complete what you start, I say. Why they can't release even obscure things via some...
Well, I would have noticed it the minute I saw it.
I wish films were unalterable by some sort of "act", like a historical marker for certain buildings/places...but....look at the screwups there...
Millions of film fans know how these films 'go" but we don''t work for these companies and don't...
It has been many moons since I've posted here, but this warrants it.
This whole "mess" reminds me of the 40th Anniversary Mary Poppins release that lopped off the "Buena Vista" logo, which had music under it, specific to the the soundtrack....Without fanfare, it was deleted (despite fan...
Mine is on the way, and I can't wait. This is a 'holy grail' type thing for me. I always thought Beaver had a similar feel at times, to some of Disney's live action product of the same era. I know Paul Smith did some of the music, and he was a prolific Disney composer.
I do find it interesting that when I was growing up in the 70's, I enjoyed the tv shows and films from the past, even ones from decades before I was born. I still like them. I am not sure that today's teens have any nostalgia or interest in the shows of past eras, as my generation did. But...
I can weigh in on this since I am in my 40s and remember when channels were limited to the networks and a few pay stations, like HBO. For me, I think television was better in some ways. There was still stupid tv, and smart tv, as there is now, but I think the smart tv outweighed the stupid...
Looking forward to this one as it is one of my favorites. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that the still photograph sequences don't quite "work". I am fully in favor of restoration, but somehow those sequences fall flat for me. I agree with the above that it would be fun to have an...
I have always felt that nostalgia is perhaps the only reason to enjoy the HERES LUCY series. For many of us who were kids in the 70's, it was the one that we saw in first run. Having been away from it for 30 years, I was also surprised at the inferiority of the many "animal episodes". Lucie...
