I think there will be some fairly available around launch. $400 is a lot - it will deter some. Even though I've pre-ordered, I'm kinda ambivalent. I agree w/ the post launch lack of titles - my PSP is gathering a bit of dust now. It just seems to be the way with all systems. I can wait until...
I thought I heard that DVD playback not included in this (possibly an add-on.) Anyone know more on this? I figure they'll do like MS did with the xbox - in order to save money, they won't include playback with the base console...
I am a tad disappointed. Given that everyone says the PSP is a PS2 equivalent, you'd think there would be a bunch of easy ports. Biggest dissappointment? GT4 Mobile was nowhere to be seen. Can you say 2006?
My guess is that the first batch shipped to stores had the disc. We are likely on the second batch of units already. I think we've got another month for these units to be rather plentiful. As soon as GTA hits mid-may, we should see a spike in sales.
I just looked at the DS release list - nothing really peaks my interest until late summer perhaps (Lunar?) It looks like GTA will be the game of choice once I finish Untold Legends.
I'd agree with the speculation it will be out around x-mas. Ballmer et all have certainly seemed to hint at it. Sony is on track for Q3-Q4 06 it seems, and MS has said they would be out first this time. My guess? Expect a mid-november Xbox2 launch, and then expect Halo 3 the same street date...
I got Untold Legends finally. It's quite good - very Diablo II like. The thing I am most impressed by is how immersive a gaming experience the PSP is. I've had several gameboys and nothing touches the PSP in terms of immersion.
It would have to be memory stick - unless they make some add on peripheral for storage of some sort (not sure if/how they would even do that.) My guess is that it would be like the "Sony Connect" service - just for movies. I'd be in if i could download like a movie for hte plane for like 2-3...
IMHO, I think it's a great little form factor for taking on trips, out shopping, to the doctor's office etc and watching part of a video. For me, when I go on trips, I have enough gadgets. I don't want a stand alone DVD player too, so this is nice for watching through something quickly.
I think what you are seeing is the difference in philosophies w/ net gaming with the current generation of consoles and handhelds. MS basically said to all game companies - "you will connect this way and you all do it the same way" vs. everyone else who basically enabled the consoles to do this...
I wouldn't rank the GBA that low. I put an afterburner in mine, and it pretty much rocked. IMHO, it's almost as good as the SP - obviously since the games are the same. ANd I actually really like the lynx. With the exception of battery life, it rocked. Afterburner on it was amazing for the...
I finally ordere untold legends. I like RPGs, and I figure it's something I can play for a while, put down, pick back up, etc. without committing to long play periods.
I think it will still be successful - it being so sexy, having the Sony cachet and marketing power, and the raw unit power - make it a tough combo to beat. The only 2 problems I see so far with the marketing of it? Sony didn't launch with either GT 4 Mobile or GTA. As soon as those come out...
This weekend, I went looking for PSPs. I found about 8 on the shelves - at Fred Meyer. The game/electronic stores (Gamestop, EB Games, and Best Buy) were out, but if you cast the net wider, you can find them. I admit I was underwhelmed at the displays set up at even the gaming stores - no...
1GB sticks are hard to come by these days, but I think the SanDisk model is the cheapest normally. I think they can go for 175-200 or so. People have been finding them on eBay. Personally, a HD in the unit doesn't make sense to me. Just another thing to break and add cost. I respect the...
I think you have the PSP confused w/ a true console. The storage for a PSP is all provided by the memory stick and the UMD (media disk for games/movies), not a hard drive.
how heavy is the brick? I'm debating that or another battery. The brick seems kinda bulky, but would obviously give me more battery life. All I really need is 8-10 hours. That will reasonably get me through any trip 1 way (flying and airports and such.)
did anyone get any accessories? I can't even find a spare battery for sale. Gamestop's got some weird "power brick" for recharging, but that seems kind of lame. Also, anyone have a good case for it yet?
Yup,. I agree, being one of those early adopters. Until they can produce the volume to meet larger demand, sell it at a premium. Just basic, simple economics. I got mine in the mail. Wow. It's still charging, but the form factor is breathtaking. Wow. The analog nub thing is pretty sweet. I...
I like the SP alot - I still don't see a reason to get a DS. I'm waiting for my PSP to get here (c'mon UPS!) I think it's got the possibility to dominate the handheld market, but for now, the SP has the game selection.
my guess is that they will sell out by the weekend - but most people probably who want one, can get one w/o paying too much of a premium. I had an order for a second that I cancelled. I think the high price (for a portable) and the lack of GTA or GT4 mobile probably limited sales. Honestly...
