Dang...I've got to get this game!
I am currently in the middle of my seventh season with 2002 and I smell another Nascar Cup! I can beat this thing so easily that it is almost disappointing...almost. I just need to beat Richard Petty's record first. ;)
One of my biggest beefs with...
Excellent. Thanks for the heads up folks. My player is in a rack pretty far away from where I sit so I hadn't noticed that it was available on the actual unit. I have been pretty conditioned to look for everything on the OSD. cheers, Steve
Just my two cents...but this technology moves so fast that it makes no sense to buy more than you need now. If you plan on buying an HDTV in a year or two, then buy a progressive DVD in a year or two. The one you buy at that point will be much better than the one you buy now. Buy an inexepensie...
I stand corrected (at least partially). :b You can get both total time and elapsed time using the virtual remote control, but not time remaining. It's not immediately obvious how to do it. The virtual remote control seemed to be of very little value so I didn't play with it very much. You...
Boka...although your mileage may vary, here's my experience:
I have a 51" widescreen RP Sony HDTV with 3:2 pulldown and used to have an old, very inexpensive, interlaced Toshiba 1600 DVD player. The picture looked awesome. Friends couldn't believe that it was an interlaced player. I just...
I use it all the time. I guess that I'm surpirsed that I'm one of the few.
I frequently use this feature (or at least did on my old 1600) when I am watching a movie and it is late and I'm not sure I want to stay awake for the rest. The time remaining helps me decide if I am going to watch the...
"Sony 715P -> Horrible progressive picture quality" oh nooooooo...have you seen this for yourself Andrew or are you relying on opinions seen elsewhere? If elsewhere, is it a good source? I have seen mixed reviews on this player...anywhere from fantastic to horrible. I suppose that I could...
Yes...very much agree. I hate to do it, but I am boxing this unit back up and returning it. I am going to try the Sony 715P since it supposedly has pretty decent MP3 capabilities. I have heard mixed reviews about its video though. I guess I'll find out. Of course, the Panasonic RP-62 & 82 are...
Believe it or not...no.
The unit also only displays time elapsed in the current track. Not even time elapsed on the disk, so you are missing both values that you would need to determine time remaining. Absolutely mind boggling.
Other rants:
The 3800 provides an indication of how...
Well...I purchased the 3800 to replace my two year old (interlaced) Toshiba 1600 and these are my initial impressions: - No picture quality difference at all...at least none that I can detect. Yes, I have a digital TV (Sony widescreen HDTV), I have the player set for progressive, and the TV...
Yes, very much agree. I suppose they don't add them to avoid confusing Harry Homeowner, but it would be nice if they could figure out a way to satisfy both the broad consumer market and picky geeks like me. :-) cheers, Steve

Anyone have any idea when the Toshiba SD-3800 is hitting the streets? This site appears to be selling it, but I'm guessing that they are jumping the gun:
Link Removed
Even the Toshiba site doesn't have a link to the player's product page yet on their site. I did hack around, however, and...
With regards to adding a Boston center to match the CR85s:
As far as I know, the only center that Boston has that matches the soft dome compact speaker line (ie, the CRs) is the CRC. Unfortunately, I noticed that this speaker sounds a little tinny compared to their 910 (don't even get me...
Ahh...found the S&V DVD at best buy. Sound calibration tests were not much more helpful than what is built into the 600, although I might change that tune if I had a sub. The explanations on the disk were great though. Also, the Dolby Digital logo demos proved to me that my rear surrounds...
Thanks for the response Phil. No, I haven't tried the Avia disk (don't have one...starting to wish I did). All I have done is use the 600's test noise to set the level of each speaker. I also can't figure out whether to set the surrounds and center to large or small (mains are stuck at large...
You and me both brother. I just bought Boston CR65s for the rear surrounds for my 600 and I really have to crank their level higher than the fronts to hear anything. Not happy.
cheers,
Steve
>I seem to like about 63 as a max when
>watching/listening to anything so far
63? Wow. Something must be wrong with my setup. I had mine set at 70 last night and it seemed only comfortable. It is a fairly large room, but not that big.
I am also disappointed with the sound...although I...
No tech questions or reviews here...just want to give kudos where it's due.
I have an old set of Boston A150s (circa 1987) that I want to use for HT. I sent BA an e-mail asking if they had any advice on whether the speakers could be matched to any of their current products. I received back a...
Ahh...another stupid question from the newbie:
Will my floor standing 3 way Boston Acoustic A150s suffice for the right and left front channels or should I drop these on speaker B and use smaller satellites up front with a sub when I am listening to HT? They are 15 years old, so I'm not sure...
Hi. Just trolling for opinions. I need several speakers to turn my old stereo into my new stereo and HT setup.
I had been running a 15yo Yamaha RX-700U and a pair of 15yo Boston Acoustic A150s....all connected to my 12yo 19" television. Yes, I have been living in the dark ages. :)
Now ->...
Jim...nice deal! No free cable for me. :frowning:
No. CC didn't commit to any particluar date. They checked five local CCs and each one was out of stock and had a couple orders for 600s pending. I'm assuming (hoping) that Onkyo will ship to them soon since it's one of their major chain...
Hey folks...just an FYI. My local Circuit City has the 600 on back order for $499, but they agreed to drop the price to $429 (their sale price on the 600) if I paid up front, which I did. With tax, I'm at $450. A couple dollars above online, but I like to support the local B&M when they are...
