How important is having money to you?

Hm... good thread. I think I'll set up that summer vacation tomorrow :)

I Really Need Some Help On This One.

The computer's yours... they gave you a signing bonus and you used it to buy a laptop. That's just ludicrous. You're getting laid off... just take it home with you one day. What are they going to do, fire you?

How do you know if your house has mold?

Talk about timely information... I just ironed out repair negotiations on a house that I want to buy and we are just about to set a closing date. One of the repairs is dryrot & mold in a bedroom. I'm glad I'm not paying for that repair... but I wonder: the mold is only visible in a small corner...

Actually now that the US is getting the 2.5L STi, the US has one cool car the rest of the world doesn't :D

HTF Car of the Week (12/19): 2003 Mazda RX-8

The WRX! :) 4 doors, similar size, less hp but more torque. Won't handle as well as the Mazda though, and not as nice an interior. Also, can't you get a 3-series sedan?

HTF Car of the Week (12/19): 2003 Mazda RX-8

The new Neon should have 245ft-lbs of torque & 215hp at the crank. The Neon SCC got was a ringer as far as anyone knows, unless the buyers start discovering they have way underspec'd engines also. I don't like the front of the RX-8, it looks like the designers were trying to make it...

    Infiniti G35-Owners Opinions?

Yeah, it was a 330xi without the sports package. I guess that was it then... though if I remember right the sports package wasn't available with the 330xi? I also just rode in an 02 325i and it also seemed to have more roll than the WRX, though we were just toodling around town and again it...

    Infiniti G35-Owners Opinions?

I gotta say I'm not impressed by BMW handling... I test drove a 330xi and maybe I just didn't drive it hard enough but I thought there was too much roll in turns and it didn't really inspire confidence. The only thing I really liked about the handling was that there was virtually no dive when...

HTF Car of the Week (12/12): 2004 Cadillac XLR

I think it's cool, and I think it's cool that Caddy is finally producing cool cars again.

Sub $200 Digital Camera Suggestions Please

IMO 2mp is fine for computer viewing, and high quality (little or no compression) 2mp images are fine up to 8x10 prints, but you will notice the 3mp difference on 8x10 and above. Many times a slightly cheaper 2mp camera will have better image quality and features (flash, manual adjustments) than...

    Resume Etiquette

Throughout college I had an "Activities and Awards" section on my resume. I think I had 5 points... as I got more awards I gradually took off activities. So it started with stuff like Golden Key NHS, Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, the posts I had held in my fraternity, and the...

    Hmmm...SUV's calling my name!

Get the Subaru!!! Foresters & Outbacks rule :). Or you could get a WRX wagon and zip around like nobody's business.

    Tire Experts

There's only three reasons to run below max pressure: 1. extremely hot weather and lots of hard driving (fast, hard cornering, hard braking) may cause some tires to overheat and blow. In the winter it's not a factor. 2. Ride quality diminishes with more air, ie you will feel more bumps in the...

    PDA's/Pocket PC 2002

The iPaq is the king of PPC devices for some reason, though I'm not sure what that reason is. I think it's got the nicest case, and I think in standard form its marginally thinner than the other PPC devices. You can also get them with built in bluetooth radios, and it has a CF slot and a mic...

    More advice on dating required...

AHOYFT!!! Do people actually do that sort of thing nowadays? "Here's my apt. number if you need anything?" That was womanspeak for "You can have my phone number if you ask for it" IMO. But now you're in a pickle because it's weird to be standing outside her apartment and asking her out. Next...

    Is radio going to hell?

I listen to KINK 102 in Portland (www.kink.fm), which as far as I know is a local station. It seems like they just play whatever they want, and they don't play the standard pop top 40 or anything like that. So it's cool. The rest of the stations... blah.

Grand Canyon voted no.1 place to see before you die.

Yeah, but many of these people probably live in London. What's there to do in NYC that is not in London? Yes, it's one of the world's great cities but it only has 200 yrs or so of interesting history. Why not place Cairo, Istanbul, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Moscow, etc etc before NYC?

A pet peeve: People licking their fingers before handing over a piece of paper.

It looks so gross. Open mouth, stick out tongue, lick finger, repeat. I really don't want to see anybody licking themselves. And what about the finger-lickers themselves? They are licking their fingers, touching the same place (with a wet finger!) that everyone else who finger-licks touches...

Does anyone pay attention to alarms anymore?

Subarus turn off the headlights when you turn the ignition off. It seems like this should be the default... I can't imagine a person would want the headlights on with no key in the ignition more often than the headlights off with no key in the ignition.

What's the story behind your very first car

I got my first car as a hand-me-down from my mom, then dad, then sister. It was an 86 Subaru GL wagon, FWD 5-sp. My mom was always afraid it was going to break down in the middle of the road, so I couldn't drive it more than 30 miles/leg. It never broke down. Then when I got a job I sold it for...

    Good Albums vs. Good Song

A simple solution to the MP3 file sharing debate

The genie is out of the bottle and people's tastes are fickle. Don't like the restrictions on client X? Use client Y! They pop up all the time. Did you know that Napster was a functioning entity up until about a week ago? IE, you could use Napster to find and d/l songs, but the selection was so...

    Which minivan would you recommend?

Yeah, if I were in the market for a minivan I'd consider Kia, Dodge, Honda, and Toyota, in that order. My fam's had 2 Dodge minivans and they've been great. The ride is excellent, it has decent power, it's very comfortable and has a decent interior. Ours has been very reliable. I rode in a Honda...

    Cheap Car Performance Upgrades

I think if you want to improve the engine significantly in a Grand Am SE you will have to go with forced induction, ie supercharger or turbo. To just get better accleration though you could do some cheap mods like the ones you are doing, the underdrive pulley, and some weight reduction. You...

I think I'm falling in love...

I would advise not pursuing the wife's friend. It's just bad policy to date friends of ex's, because one relationship almost always ends badly. It could be you and the wife, you and the friend, or the wife and the friend, but it's almost guaranteed.
