Low voltage/current DC shouldn't give you any problems. If you get to higher frequencies and square waves you might hear stuff coupled to the phone if you don't keep the pairs straight. I remember installing some RS232 terminals and printers in a warehouse once (long time ago) and hooking...
I believe you can (or used to) get lacquer in spray-bombs at NAPA stores. Don't scrimp on the primer surfacer as you will probably need a half dozen coats to get the pores filled/sealed and enough build up to sand to a mirror finish. Final sand the primer with 600 grit and you'll probably need...
I have four of the 3" fans mounted to the back panel of my equipment enclosure. All shelves inside have about an 8"x14" hole cut out of the center as well as the bottom of the cabinet. I have a furnace filter incorporated into the base. That way the fans draw filtered air up and out the rear of...
What I did in my living room was to use my router table to make custom baseboard moulding out of 1x4 stock. It was thick enough for me to route a generous groove/channel in the back side to run my cables.
Here in Ft Worth, TX, Home depot carries Wilsonart and not Formica brand, go figure... I used the Wilsonart a few months back to make new countertops and it looks like a good quality product. The store I went to had a satin black in stock but not a gloss black. L8r, Justin B.
joyanS, Don't ever admit to anybody on any of these forums that you own a Bose product, Frank was one of the nicer respondents! I use a Bose AM5 system (donning nomex drawers... ;-))for my surrounds (white and almost invisible, that was a mandate from wife.gov) a Bose VCS10 center, JBL...
Walt, I bought a pair of S38s ($279) and a PB10 ($199) from J&R and the stuff was shipped same day and the shipping was included on all JBL products. I don't know if the shipping thing was a promo or if it a regular deal... The UPS guy said, "Well, that saved you some bucks..." L8r, Justin
Jason, I think the first step should be as Jorge suggests and balance your speakers, the surrounds might be se too high or your center set too low. I initially adjusted mine "by ear" and was surprised how far off I was once I got the VE disc and the sound meter. I got the VE disk at Frys for...
On lengthening the cables the best way would be to solder the connections and use heat-shrink tubing over the splice. A crimp butt-connector, or the "twisties", would be easier but not as good an electrical connection. L8r, Justin B.
Krylon makes a crinkle finish paint that might look OK. I have used the krinkle black on aluminum valve covers, and refinished a center console on a 71 240Z, with excellent results. Just a thought... Justin
I think you'll be very happy. I added a pair of S38 speakers and a PB10 sub recently and have been very satisfied - deleriously happy considering the J&R pricing and free shipping!
I am using a Bose (no flames, I ain't listening...) VCS10 center and the Bose AM 5 system for rear surround and...
If it is a wood veneer, and is not lifting or otherwise damaged, then you should be able to seal and paint over top of it. If it is the vinyl crap then Robert's suggestion for a heat gun (or good hair dryer) should cause the adhesive to soften up and allow you to peel it off. For cleanup...
On a laminate, though, won't you see the "edges" where it's trimmed with the router?
I don't think just lacquering a pair of speakers and a sub should cause somebody much muscular discomfort, a 9 foot Steinway on the other hand...
I have never painted any furniture pieces but I have shot clear lacquer on gunstucks with good results and painted several cars. Let me share some observations about lacquer finishes:
1. After you seal the wood lay on a couple of coats of primer-surfacer (sometimes called high-build primer)...
It seems in the DFW, TX area the problem is HD content. ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, UPN, et al have had digital channels up for some time but CBS seems to be the only one with more than just token content.
I also picked up the PB10 from J&R for $199 shipped and even in a fully carpeted (w/thick pad) living room I can rattle some of the ol' lady's stuff in the bookcase without even trying! Although, she informed me that if anything vibrated off and got broken I had better start sleeping with one...
I have had my 38310 since last August with nary a glitch. I assume the codes you are referring to are revision codes of some sort, where are they located?
Another thing you might consider would be using threaded inserts and machine screws. You drill the appropriate sized hole in the oiece you want to attach to and press in the insert then attach the two pieces with a threaded machine screw.
You can get inserts and T nuts and other hardware at...
I would imagine that some people say that a crimped connection is superior because they can't solder! I'm sure that statement will probably get me a good flaming but I have some very good nomex drawers on! ;-) I have been an electronic technician since the mid 70s and back then everybody in...
IMHO the big question should be how much is it going to be used. If you will be using it a lot then a good quality HD router should be considered. But, if you are only going to use it on a couple of projects go for a lower priced model.
I have two routers. One is a Bosch 1 3/4 HP fixed...
I don't work with wood veneers that much, I always get the hardwood plywood when building cabinetry, but I would think the contact adhesive used with plastic laminates would work pretty good. I use a narrow, short-nap roller with good results then trim the edges with a router.
Apply two...
I did a lot of reading on this forum and decided on the JBL PB10. It was $199 with free shipping from J&R and they have the PB12 for $299. I have had it for a couple of days and it sounds a lot better than the $350 jobs Circuit City was trying to sell me...
I bought a 38" RCA HDTV from ABT Electronics online and their delivery service (shipping was a couple hundred from Chicago to Texas, but even after the shipping it was cheaper than local) unboxed the set and placed it wherever I wanted, plugged it in and made sure it would turn on. Only thing...
I have had the 38" RCA tube set for about 7 months and am pretty happy with it. It has HD and Sat receivers built in. I did a side-by-side compare between several sets at Frye's abd the RCA seemed to me to have the clearer/crisper picture. Frye wouldn't deal at all on price so I ordered fom...
I have been real happy with the RCA 38310 that I picked up last fall. It was around $2K plus shipping but worked out cheaper than buying locally and paying tax.
Excellent picture, built in HDTV tuners and Sat rcvr but set is extremely heavy and quite deep, > 2ft. Am in process of building...
I would think the best thing would be to use the proper paint materials. You can get "crinkle" finish paint in spray bombs in various colors or go to an automotive paint store and check out what kinds of textured paints they carry. I have used a lacquer based texture paint that looks very...
