All of sudden my Blu-Ray copy no longer works! I inherited my late brother's DVd/Blu-Ray collection and HIS copy doesn't play, either. Now that Oluiver seems to have gone out business, I'm left with 2 unwatchable Blu-Rays! (I have an Oppo Blu-Ray player).
AN INSPECTOR CALLS - Alastair Sim
THE WINSLOW BOY -Robert Donat
LAST HOLIDAY (please re-release it, but this time in Blu Ray) - Alec Guinness
NIGHT WORLD - Lew Ayers, Boris Karloff, Mae Clarke
KITTY - Paulette Goddard, Ray Milland
for starters
The story is actually good, but considering that both the Cotten and Bergman characters are Irish, the flat mid-Atlantic, slight Southern Cotton accent and Ingrid's Swedish accent doesn't really make total sense.
I keep looking for this to come out on Blu-Ray, and today, I called Kino and yes, the title was aquired by Kino/Lorber. Unfortunately, though not cancelled, it has been set aside for future release.
I'm a bit confused why they would announce it and then back off temporarily.
It's a great...
Hey guys;
I haven't posted for awhile, but my brother and I - both fans of the old "Amos & Andy" TV show were discussing if there is a 'best' DVD set out there. I know they're all quasi-legal, but does anyone know which set would have the best possible quality? many thanks
I agree.....quite nice quality and I don't think these old black and white cartoons would look that much better in Blu-ray. I'm so pleased. Next up? Hopefully a Daffy Duck marathon.
I got mine today (pressed discs, hurray!). I watched 6 cartoons on disc 1 and a few on disc 2. Excellent quality....no complaints other than I think Warners could've afforded to place a one sheet inside of the 5 disc set with a listing of contents. What's listed on the back cover is not good...
Hey guys. Is there any significant reason keeping "The Spiral Staircase" from being reissued on DVD from some company? The long out-of-print MGM DVD is going for big bucks and this great movie still has appeal for DVD buyers.
Any backstory?
That's why any Roach shorts starring Charley Chase and others should be not too vast. Probably two or three discs with a nice assortment of shorts by Chase, The Girl Friends, The Boy Friends and others.
I would buy it if it wasn't too grand and expensive.
This is not the first Vivendi/Universal disc package like this; I have the "Spanky & Our Gang" 4-CD limited edition set from Hip-O Select and it's the same kind of paper packaging. I don't care for it and have trouble getting the discs out of the sleeves, but I haven't notice any serious...
Thanks, Ron (or do you prefer Ronald?)
It's usually standard for an in-print item on Amazon or J&R to simply go from being 'in stock' to being 'temporarily out of stock' without removing it or showing it as no longer available. This is crazy, since no one can order it (wouldn't you think...
There's something screwy going on with this; both Amazon and J&R usually says "out of stock" on in-print items that they have run out of.
Perhaps Vivendi made only so many copies of this set and will only print more when they get enough orders, or is this really a limited edition?
Perhaps our...
For those who complain about DVDs mentioned here not being available in Canada, outside North America or to US bases, you have another good option; have a friend or relative who lives in the USA order the DVD at the good price and ship it off to you.
Heck, I think you might be able to buy it...
Regarding Vivendi doing other Roach shorts, I'd prefer if they would mix Charley Chase, with The Girlfriends, as well as shorter-lived series, The Boyfriends. A nice mix of various shorts would be swell....and i think it would sell better than an all-Charley Chase boxset.
I'm not sure where in Canada you live, but if you're close to the border, you can cross over to make US purchases, and to mail things at the US post office. You might also make an arrangement for a friend in the US, close to Canada to re-route purchases to him/her, so you can take advantage of...
My copy doesn't have glue residue issues, so overall, I'm satisfied with the packaging. I wish I could easily find all of the commentaries, tho. And I wish there was a good documentary on their history in place of the "Jerry Lewis interviews".
Overall, I'm a happy camper.
I got my copy today and first off, the packaging is not all bad. Each 'page' opens up completely and the discs are protected from dust by being in the outter slip cover. Quick grousing, boys and girls.
Now on to something more significant. Some of the films have commentaries....but you'd be...
I agree with buying American whenever possible. I have rebought those UK titles I have bought as soon as they come out here (even a handful of grey-market titles that were not available legimately get rebought when the legit versions become available!)
