I plan on buying a 5 disc progressive scan dvd player that will also work as my cd player. I will run the video straight to the TV(component ready) and the sound through the receiver. Should I just connect the sound into, for example, optical input 1, and use that input for both DVD sound and...
I have the onkyo 500 and have enjoyed it along with the nsp1's. However, when I did the initial calibration with my handy dandy spl meter, I thought they would stay like that. After I turned off the receiver and turned it back on, I assumed it would automatically go back to the calibrated...
David If I am the only dentist here then I feel I must oblige. First, which tooth is it. There is a big difference between a molar and a premolar as far as what to put on. Porcelain Advantages: esthetic, wear resistant Porcelain disadvantages: Overall fit (may have gaps that may enable...
That was funny. most of those were daily situations I've experienced in some form or another, well, except for the dog being hit and the bicyclist being run over. :D
Hot and spicy V8 is not good in my opinion.
I drink regular V8 this way: 1 Tsp Red Hot sauce
Pinch of salt
Ground black pepper
Ground white pepper
Hell if you add horseradish , worcester sauce, and vodka, you got yourself a fine bloody mary
Without extra spices, the V8 is a little...
Even though the G35 seems to be the same car with more space inside, I don't need that space. I already have a passat. I will buy this car purely for a performance stand point. Tim, do you have more info on that turbo model? JL
Avitevet,
You are probably right. However, the 911 scored .90g on the roadholding test whereas the 350Z scored .88g, which is pretty damn close.
While I agree with you that the Porsche should be more fun to drive, I believe (from what I have read) that the Z comes very close as well.
Not...
Michael, sorry to hear about that. Unfortunately, you're not the only one. As I said before, all the 90 day guys here were extended. It just really sucks that you have to stay in that heat longer. Hang in there buddy. It'll make coming home that much sweeter. JL
Michael,
If you go the nissan website, they have pictures of that new SUV

BTW, I don't like convertibles, so I'll stay with the current model ;)

I am a firm believer that german engineering is the best out there. This is why all my cars have been german made. But ever since the 300Z came out in the late 80's, I really thought that car looked cool and at the time, was revolutionary. Fast forward some 13 years later, and out comes the...
My wife has managed to break , one by one, all the glasses (18 of them)in the kitchen, by dropping them inadvertently in the sink over a 2 year period. That's almost 1 glass every 2 months. I love her to death. :)
I found it at amazon.com/uk. I'll probably order it and send it to my mom in Paris, who will send it to me. Either that or send to my friend's parents in london.
either way, i'm getting a hold of this gem of a show :emoji_thumbsup:
JL
Dean,
you said family guy was available on DVD in other regions. Could you specify? I have a codefree DVD player so I can play all regions.
Man I would love to get my hands on that. :emoji_thumbsup:
I sedate patients on a weekly basis, but not to the extent of Tony. I remove wisdom teeth, so most of my patients want to be "asleep" when doing it. I use a combination of drugs. The most widely used combo in dentistry is Versed and Fentanyl. Versed is the same family as valium, and Fentanyl is...
Michael,
It will be very hard coming back to the states where I will have no gardener and no maid. We do live well here. My wife and I are thinking of extending 1 year. Hell, the tax break is incentive enough. We're managing to put away a fair amount of money. Sadly, only a tiny portion of...
Michael,
it's cool to meet another HTFer that has been to Incirlik. We also have been to Capadoccia and it was wonderful. We also left our money at the carpet place we went to :) . We've also been to Ankarra, Antalya, Goreme, kizkalesi (we'll probably rent a house down there). We still have a...
I have been stationed at Incirlik Air Base in Southeastern Turkey (home of operation northern watch) for the past 12 months and it has been a cool assignment thus far. Are there any others here that have been a part of our war against terror? It would be nice to know if another audiophile is...
Sorry about your loss,
we just lost our cat last week. They had to put her down, she couldn't eat nor walk anymore. At least I didn't have to see that, I've been away for a while. Her name was Muffin, and she was 15 :frowning:
Troy, do you have a part # for that fan? I have about 6 inches clearance above my receiver. I was looking for a small oscillating fan to plug into the receiver as well but can't seem to find any. The ones at RS don't seem to have a plug, although I may be mistaken. JL
my wife likes to watch movies at such a low volume that I always turn the subtitles on in case I miss something ( the baby doesn't help either). Then I usually go back when I have time and put it on full blast when my wife is out of the house.
I have 2 cabinets on either side of the TV. So the question is, do I place the front mains right next to the TV on each side or do I spread out the fronts and place them 6 feet away from the center channel, on the other side of the cabinets? Which would produce the best sound? I cannot place the...
Gabe,
you are right, it doesn't have many features. The speaker adjust/setup is pretty basic. I don't think I am experienced enough to need a more detailed setup. So what I have is fine. I do plan on upgrading in the future, but I think the setup that I have, for the money, is great. The...
Gabe, I don't hear any distortion at high volumes, unless I crank it up enough where I think something is going to blow up. A "bright" sound, to me, is where you can hear every little sound very clearly. It almost has a metallic sound to it. When you hear a cymbal, it almost sounds high...
I just got the 500 with the jbl nsp1 /ar120 sub. Since this is my first HT system, it's hard for me to compare, but all I can say right now is wow. Plenty of power. Great for both music and movies. I tweaked the speakers with the sound and vision tune up cd and an spl meter. It sounds solid...
I am looking to get a good deal on speaker stands for the n24's, but I can't even find them online. Anybody have a link? Is there a speaker stand specific to the n24 or is there a universal one? Right now my speakers are on the ground and I am seriously losing sound. Thanks JL
Just hooked up my onkyo 500 with the nsp1's. They sound great!! I already tried out a few things. DTS sounds very sweet. The receiver recognizes the signal right away and switches to DTS mode. However, when I watch a DVD with dolby digital, both the DD mode and DPLII modes are lit. Is there any...
I am having problems connecting my VCR. I can't seem to figure out the order of the wiring. I really want to record from my satellite(Turkish equivalent of dish network). So what is the proper order? Here is what I think:
Hook up satellite to VCR using composite input. The composite out to...
It seems onkyo has been getting bashed as of late, specifically due to the drop in wattage with all channels driven. This does not make me feel good about my purchase of the 500 which should be here next week. I ordered it along with the NSP1's. Could all the happy owners please speak up and...
