i've heard nothing but good on the axioms, especilly the m22ti's, as for the reciever, if your looking at that price range, look at the sherwood r-956, 120x6 will drive 6 ohms easy, but that last setup looks nice for the speakers
Blaine, i was in your situation at the beginning of the summer, limited to about $2500, i listened to some advice i got here and went with a 2 channel system for movies and music. especially for music, having rears really doesn't add much, i think your better off spending the extra cash on a...
with the outlaw at $500, i think your going to have a hard time finding a better deal, unless you can find the sherwood on ubid, where i've heard that people are getting them for as low as $475
good starting list, but if you can find it check out the sherwood newcastle r-956 or r-863, they are 6.1 and 7.1 recievers respectively with 120x6 and 100x7 watts, neither have anything over 5.1 processing even though they have the amplifiers for the 6th and 7th channels, the r-956 goes for...
just make sure you biwire the images, i just picked up a pair of 6t's about a month ago myself and biwiring made a very noticable improvement on the sound of the 6t's, much better imaging with a wider and more defined soundstage
i would include psb alphas in your list, I think the towers go for 500, center for 250 along with the bookselves for rears, or some image series bookselves, I compared the paradigm monitors and studios to the psbs along with b&w 603's, only had limited time with the psb alphas with movies, but...
sven, the 963 would be a great starting point, as from my limited time listening to it, it sounds like its about as good as receivers get and would hold its own against seperates in the same price range
sven, heres a link to the 963 which has links to pictures of the back of the receiver and some other info

joe, you may be right, because i have to turn the vol up to about 1/2 up before you can really notice it when your next to the speaker, barely noticable at all when your sitting around listening to music, and it would make a lot of sense that a more expensive amp wouldn't have this problem.
alf, tried out the svideo idea, ran the receiver without the svideo in and it made no difference, the setup is in an old room with an old electrical system, so i'm thinking it's probably something to do with the power, i'll try one of those belkin power supplies and see if they make a difference
alright, heres my setup sherwood r-956 receiver, sony cdp345 5 disc, samsung dvd psb image 6t's on kimber 8vs biwire and a pbj rca for the cd player when up close to the speakers i notice a little bit of static in the backround, nothing noticable usually, just on some quiet parts of songs...
sven, as this is my first ht setup, i started completly from scratch so i don't have a sub just yet, however i have found that at least with movies, the low end comes through very clean and hard on my image 6t's, however with music the low end isn't as clean, although i think thats due to my pos...
i second the suggestion on sherwood, i just picked up a r-956 2 weeks ago and i'm very happy with it, doesn't have all the features of the other amps, but i listened to the 3802, the rxv 2200, 8200, and the onkyo's and i thought the sherwood just sounded better, only thing i think i'm...
phil mays, i was a little suprised to when i didn't hear a noticable difference between the monofocals and the 8tc, if you say you can hear the difference then either the images or the sherwood reciever were the limit of the system, and the 8tc brought out as much detail out of the system as...
josh, i agree with you totally, i listened to my image 6t's with 8tc cable as well as monofocal xl kimber, and i only heard small differences if any between the 8tc and monofocal xl, main reason i got the 8vs was for biwiring, since i've previously heard, and have now experienced that the images...
i'm just burning them in listening to the same music i always do, and with movies although i'm a little confused about disconnecting the speaker wires from the speakers to avoid stressing the voice coils, what would cause a problem there?
i've gotta say, I always thought that I'd never pay 100 bucks for a cable, but with the recent purchase of my first serious ht setup, i'm never going back to cheap cable. I had ordered some 8vs biwire to go with my image 6t's, but it wasn't in when i picked everything up, so the store gave me a...
i remember reading somewhere a year or 2 ago that yamaha was the best selling brand of $600 and up recievers, i'm starting to see why now, since their are other recievers that sound close, but none built as well as the yammies
the rx-v2200 is another good choice, yamaha apparently just dropped the retail down to 800 according to my local dealer, the sherwood is better, but also 200 more
The Sherwood newcastles are as good as they are on paper, i auditioned one 2 weeks ago, 956 and 963 to be exact, for under a grand i would go with the 956 over anything, denon, marantz, yamaha, i listened to all of them, newcastle was just better, you should be able to find the 956 for 900-1000...
chrisag, i've heard that both matrix 2 and episode 2 are going to be released with 7.1 encoding, but i agree with you for the most part, 7.1 dvd's are going to be almost nonexistant for the next year or so
the lower end images are suposed to compete with the monitors somewhat, the image 6t's got for about 900, compared to about 1100 for the studio 60's so their a pretty close pricewise.
have you looked at Psb? i compared recently compared the studio 60's, B&W 603 and 604 to Psb image 6t's and i thought the images blew the paradigms away by far in terms of clearity and imaging. I thought the B&W's were better then the paradigms, but still feel short of the images, just my opinion
mike, yesterday i did a side by side comparison with an nad 761, sherwood newcastle 956, and a marantz 7200 on psb image 6t speakers, the nad and sherwood sounded very similar, and were both far better then the marantz for sound quality, however you might want to look at the sherwood newcastle...
i'll be using the reciever for 60/40 music/ht, so thanks for the heads up on that
I'll have to take a look at the new yamaha's especially since my loacal paradigm dealer also has them, so i'll get to see exactly what i can expect from my setup, and i don't know why, i've just never been a big...
I'm currently looking to built a home theater setup, and while i've chosen the speakers, i'm unsure about the reciever. Right now i'm looking at the denon avr-3802, but i want to know what your opinions are, i've looked at the outlaw 1050, and i think it might be a little underpowered, however...
