GuyL, I don't what you preference (music/ht) and your budget but here are my recommendation: Get Polk LSi9. They're not the best but at their internet price, they're excellent value. then for the amp IRDAudio MB100 (I owned) Odyssey Stratos (currently drive my Polk LSi9) Or used...
Polk LSi9 requires good amplification for critical music listening. Not only it has to be able drive 4ohm, it also has to be able to *control* the drivers effortlessly. This Polk really sings when mated with good amp. I have not tried byamping but I can imagine the result

Howard, you just have to listen to many different material of speakers and decide for yourself what's bright vs warm. Your preference and perception of music/sound may be different with others. Nico
For your setup, get Home Depot 12 or 14 AWG speaker cable or Acoustic Research 12 AWG at Lowe's. No need to spend more than $.50/ft for you IMO. For interconnect, digital cables, get Phillips Magnavox ICs and its toslink at Walmart. If your DVD player has digital coax, get a digital coax cable...

IMHO you should not make decision based on THX certification. But anyway, what does it mean to be THX certified? Just curious. I hope it's not just for marketing gimmick. Nico

Could somebody comment on the sound characteristics (laid back vs forward) of the Lsi9? Warm/fuzzy vs highly detail/bright? What about the soundstage? What about bass performance? Last but the not least, how is the off-axis (vertical and horizontal) performance? Compared to nOrh speakers?
I'd...

You see now that you need to speak out to get the rep or the maker of the speakers come in and discuss :D Thanks MC for joining in; and no you're selling (just yet :)).
Nico
The bigger question may be: why are most speakers (sold thru big chain stores) not respected? :D I really hope Polk rep come in and explain what they are trying to do with LSi.
For HT, Def Tech is excellent; you'll love the dynamics of these speakers. For audio, it is sufficient. The floor standing ones are very difficult to place to work properly. Nico
