Listen to them yourself. Two or more people can listen to various speakers and like different ones for different reasons. There's a lot of Bose bashing, but I like mine and they are low end. No doubt there are better speakers and you should listen to as many as you can in an environment close to...
What is your preference in a sub cable? RCA to RCA or RCA to split? What is the advantage to split, if any? Brands? Current placement is only about 4 feet from receiver.
It does indicate Dolby Digital via the logo and also DTS when applicable; however, it doesn't do it regularly. I suspect the optical cable? At lunch today, the DTS demo program worked 1 out of 3 tries. I-do not know what else to check when it seems to operate intermitently.
Last night I checked the settings on the DVD player as follows: PCM Down Conversion - Set to Yes because it is connected to an amplifier with an optical digital audio cable. Dolby Digital - Set to Bitsteam because it is connected to a unit with a built-in Dolby Digital decoder. DTS Digital...
THe DVD player doesn't have the magic cluster; however, it does have an optical output. If I'm reading the manual right, Jack Briggs was correct in assuming I did not have the PCM/bitstream setting right. Can I still get 5.1 using an optical cable and setting PCM/Bitstream stuff right? The...

Worse than you assumed guys. The equipment I have, although logo'd with Dolby Digital and DTS, does not have a demodulator in either component. I bought the wrong stuff and must now buy another dvd player with 5.1 output capability (cheaper than another receiver). Was that a turnip truck?

OK, now that my education has begun...what is the recommended frequency response? Is there a standard? The system is used for music (background, not parties) and movies.
I think I want to add a powered sub to my system. I know very little about them. I have a modest HT including a Pioneer digital signal processor and Bose Acoustimass 6 speakers with a passive sub. I found out that Bose does not offer a matching powered sub. I'm looking for suggestions and...
