Because very few receivers or pre/pros have more than one multi-channel input. After a swtich box and additional cabling, the total cost and convenience isn't very attractive to most people.

Both the Hillary and Herbie discs have had problems playing in players of many different brands. It sounds more like an authoring problem instead of a Pioneer problem.
The player does upsample, but the manual is unclear exactly what it is upsampling to. Two features, one called Legatto Pro and one called Hi-Bit, must be engaged for the player to upsample.
