Well, it doesn't really matter. As far as the Studios can see, they have invested money and time in making a film, and they don't want free copies doing the rounds. Or worse, other people making money off their properties. They have a point. Think about it if it affected you. If I'd invested...
But don't forget a PSP is region-free, both games and films. But it doesn't mean that I, living in the UK, can go out and buy a US game of film disc direct from the shops. Because Sony UK is still threatening to sue the pants of any company who imports and resells PSP games. True, I can import...
But George, it's not that simple. Not enough people bought enough "Murphy Brown" to make continuing releases worthwhile. The rights owners of "Love and Marriage" put the price up for subsequent seasons of "Married With Children" thinking that had Sony over a barrel. People complained about...
Firstly, its not any producers "mission" to make a TV series for later DVD sales. A TV series is made for the TV audience, which is likely to me many times greater than the DVD audience ever will be. If that means getting the right to a track for TV, which may not be possible on the DVD...
It's not just a case of if the proposed now delayed/cancelled sets make money or not. I'm sure that most DVD released these days "make money" - it's just slower sellers may take longer to go into the black. After all, these DVD sets aren't just for America, but potentially the whole world...
I'd love to see: Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels - if they want some bonus supplements they could always throw in a few of the Captain Cavemen shorts from one of the Flintstones shows. Hanna Barbera's Godzilla - But I don't think this is likely - it's a rights nightmare I would...
Yes, but then you'd all just moan at either the high price or the fact that music was replaced/removed (like in Quantum Leap) ;) I honestly cannot see how complete season sets could ever be released. But I also said that about the Muppet Show which was released (admittedly not 'complete')...
I think the combination of lower than expected sales plus the cost of music clearence have sunk this for now. Remember music clearence issues, and how you all complained about Universal (while somehow failing to point the finger at Sony who are just as bad with their Tour of Duty and Dawson's...
The UK release seems to have the same edits. I cannot understand the BBFC listing and timings. But there you are. Perhaps Buena Vista UK resubmitted the episodes in question and they have yet to appear on the BBFC site.
I belive the UK has had the episodes released on VHS with intact music. Therefore, the rights for the home video release were already secured for the UK. When people are paying £12.99 for 2 episodes, the price of the music rights aren't a big an issue as paying three times the price for ten...
I don't think that is allowed. When the BBFC classify something, they also take into account the context. For example, if the Master Reel contains a shot of Danver's head exploding, and Universal decided to re-edit the footage submitted to repeat the sequence, or slow it down or whatever, the...
I think it was a deliberate decision. As has been pointed out - by myself in previous threads - there is certainly censorship by omission. Warner did intend to release chronological Tom and Jerry cartoons, just like in Europe and Australia. There are trailers on some of the Hanna Barbera sets...
Yeah. I don't mind the overlapping hubs. But they are most definitely not suited for double sided discs. Today I will see if the UK is still sticking to double sided discs for ER. (Indications are that they are, as the S4 press release says 4 discs)
Lots of sets are packaged this way. The latest Buena Vista TV titles are, as are other Warner sets, such as Murphy Brown and the Ultimate Matrix Collection. There a pic of the Golden Girls set at the bottom of this page: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/thegol...-season1b.html I guess we...
Just try it on the UK ER sets, which are packaged that way, and still double sided discs (unlike the recent American release of ER S3. Still, my ER S4 was posted yesterday!)
Well Warner is also a music publisher itself (Universal isn't anymore), and most modern Warner shows are used to promote their musical properites. While this doesn't mean that there is no conflict of rights, potential conflict is obviously reduced. I can't really say anything about some of the...
Yes. But if rights holders see that the demand exists, what do you think that are going to do, en mass? They're all going to assume that they have studios over a barrel and demand more money (just like they did with Love and Marriage). Not all of the greed is coming from the studios. Giving in...
Yes, but Christian have you asked why the RRP has been reduced by $10? Studios generally do do research on potential sales vs cost issues. Retail prices are not plucked out of a hat, they are carefully considered on a sales/financial return basis. Remember members of this forum have sometimes...
But what would happen if Universal did pay the money for the offending music? The price of the set would go up, and would most likely result in fewer sales. Perhaps all of the seasons wouldn't be released as a result. Meanwhile, having their (possibly - we can't really say as we don't know...
I'm surprised, but again it looks like the UK will be getting a better edition. If features the short TV-Friendly "Making Of" featurette, as well as a 52 minute indepth documentary Link Here to BBFC listing - ELEKTRA - FEATURETTE - INCARNATIONS. I suspect Fox may have been planning another...
The thing is, the studios already have such an option. It's called licencing. Companies like Anchor Bay would be happy to licence any TV series with reasonable sales potential, and the studios would get a fixed income. Sadly, most don't seem receptive.
No I'm not particularly picking on retailers. Put the original poster was comparing the MSRP to the Chinese cost. Really, it's pointless. How much do the Chinese pay for their houses? How much is the average weekly wage for them? Comparisons just don't hold. And if the orinal poster wants...
Maybe, and maybe not (its more than a few cents discount) but it doesn't alter the fact that on every MSRP, the retailers cut is calculated at about 20-30% of the price.
Well, you can't compare prices universally. It's not fair. China has a much different standard of living. You know, if you think US DVDs are a rip-off then get a multi-region player and import discs. Why do you think so many non-US residents have multi-region players? It's not just about...
My guess is, Fox, used to selling VHS tapes of TV in Europe etc cleared the music for international release as the series was made, but not for domestic use. After all, TV on VHS wasn't big in America, thanks to the syndication market. Walk into any store in the UK selling VHS ten-five years...
