Dismantling my bedroom home theater. This has been an amazing receiver. Original boxes, manual, and remote. Looks and works great. Only exception is that the manual volume dial does not work well - but everyone only uses the remote anyway and that works great. I have also used a Harmony/Logitech...
Well, I'll be darned! Telling the 1050 that I have a rear surround speaker (even though I don't) fixed the problem. I did not think this would make any difference, since the movie is in 5.1 dts and dd, not 6.1 or 7.1.
Of course, it is digital on the DVD - I meant sending an analog stereo signal to the receiver or playing it in stereo with PowerDVD on my PC. These options where there is not any DD or dts decoding work fine. I am not sure if this is the same problem as discussed the Harry Potter thread...
There are no video problems, and dozens of other DD 5.1 and dts dvds have played great on this setup exactly as is. The only other time I noticed a similar problem was when I tried to play the music only selection available on "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". The regular movie portion of...
I recently bought a copy of the Pirates of the Caribbean Collector's Edition dvd. The picture and analog sound work fine. When I try and use either dts or DD 5.1, there are breaks in the sound every 30 seconds or so. I am playing the dvd in a Toshiba SD-4800 with a 75 ohm digital cable going to...
I also loved this DVD. Rented it first, and then bought it used. Did anyone else have problems with the sound when watching the Performance Selections under the Special Features? I could not activate DTS with the Performance Selections, and the sound would just cut out from time to time and...
I am looking for a used audio rack with 4 or 5 shelves that is in good condition and not too much money (or not too much for what it is). Please PM me if you have something that is shipable or if you are in the Los Angeles area. I am looking for something for my livingroom 2 channel system, and...
Well, I wanted to close this thread by thanking everyone.
I am finally set with a Sony CX333ES (that I bought used), a Slink-e (bought direct from www.nirvis.com), my old laptop (which I can easily pull out of the system three times a year when I need it), and 802.11b home networking. I...
I just listened to Eagles HFO, and this is truely the way 5.1 should be. Too bad it is not widescreen.
From a historical perspective, I would recommend The Last Waltz. The recording shows its age compared to HFO (it was originally recorded over 25 years ago), but it is widescreen and has some...
Also, go to the Picture menu and turn it to "Movie" mode. Supposed to get rid of SVM.
Take a look at http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/brand...hiba_tips.html
Some good tips, some may be out of date.
Don't take it the wrong way. I am very happy with the 42H81 and I am enjoying it a lot. Tombstone was fantastic on this set (to my unsophisticated vision). And the fact that 90 or so people looked at my post below and did not say "Boy did you blow it" makes me think that while my decision may...
I am of the other mode. I made my decision quickly - went to Costco, Good Guys, and Best Buy and pulled the trigger the next day. Though I really like my Tosh 42H81, I now have 30 days to wonder if I made a mistake and should take it back (see post below). Same angst, but I get to watch my...
Thanks for the information Michael. I started with Movie mode and then used Avia yesterday - although I keep losing my preferences somehow. I also can't figure out how to do the white setting (the first video configuration shown), but I just went directly to the advanced DIY section. Maybe...

I just bought a Toshiba 42H81. If I watch a widescreen movie (2.35:1), I obviously get black bars at top and bottom, and I assume that is not a burn in problem. If I watch 4:3 TV in normal mode I get grey bars on either side. Am I risking any burn with this? Is there a way to turn them off so...

I have the 4800 and the 42H81. I have no such problem.
I think to run widescreen DVDs properly you need to MAKE SURE TO CHANGE THE TV DIMENSIONS on the 4800 to 16:9 and output as FULL (default on the 4800 is 4:3).
The on the 'H81, make sure the picture size is set to FULL.
Have you tried...
That Avia menu looks fine from my 4800 on my new Toshiba 42H81. I have not used Avia before and put it in for the first time and went to that menu. It showed up fine in Normal (postage stamp) and Widescreen Mode 1 (stretched). PS. I am guessing there is a setting in Avia where you tell it...
What are the physical differences between Component Video Cables and standard A/V cables? I understand the difference in how they are used and what they do, but what makes them physically different. On the outside, they seem quite similar. Can the standard red, yellow, white A/V cables (or any...
Thanks HTF. It took me twenty minutes to get through all the red tape registering my company with Microsoft, but I received the box and after four hours to get drivers unloaded, the XP install done and everything loaded back I am writing this while running my new copy of XP.
Thanks for letting...
Recently I have played Yellow Submarine and The Last Waltz in DD 5.1. On the movie title or credits it notes DTS. But DTS is not available from the menus or featured on the box. Is there an Easter Egg for DTS or another version with DTS coming?
I bought the RCA RT2500 at Sam's Club for $299 (US dollars) for bedroom HT. It is labeled as 700 watts, 100 watts per channel x 5 plus 200 watts for the sub - so it is probably not the same unit. Bottom line, it is great for bedroom HT, but sucks for music if you listen at all critically. I...
