    6" flared port

ThomasW I built a clone of your klone using a Tumult and I agree that the 6" port does indeed look cool. The added benefit, of course, is no chuffing at ear-splitting, sinus pounding levels. Even though the model indicated port airspeed may be a problem in my combo, I can still hear no chuffing.

    Inside Info on Charlottesville/Richmond, VA?

I know its not the same, but I do have a rather large walk-up attic. I agree that alot of mid/eastern VA homes do not have basements. The soil is unsuitable and the ground is too flat.

    Inside Info on Charlottesville/Richmond, VA?

SethH Unfortunately, Short Pump is one of the great places to live so real estate prices are escalating through the roof. All things being relative, real estate here is still much cheaper than in NY. Howeveer, Short Pump is where the money is. This may make the area attractive to an art gallary.

    Inside Info on Charlottesville/Richmond, VA?

I live a little west of Richmond in a community called Short Pump (really). There is an all outdoor mall there called the Short Pump Town Center. There is a lot of disposable income in the Short Pump area. Short Pump Town Center There are many other retailer in this community that...

    rms wattage discrepencies among brands?

Shiu The 52TXs current draw is listed as 480 watts. You have no doubt seen the review results. What difference does this make. It is just an excuse for criticism of the power output. They don't know how that 480 watts rating was derived and neither do I. Until someone can post something...

    Replace my Yamaha with 1014TX?

Ryan Sorry. I hope you didn't take too much offense. My annoyance wasn't that high. I have always had a problem with people posting things like "others", "most" and "everybody". I didn't mean to really single you out. It is just a pet peeve of mine.

    Replace my Yamaha with 1014TX?

Ryan Now it "others". Before it was "most". I know that you want to present things so that readers think that "everyone" is on your side. This annoys me. How do you know how the 480 watts was determined. It is not written on the back of the receiver. Is it one channel driven? Is it five...

    rms wattage discrepencies among brands?

Perhaps someone could post actual fact and not conjecture as to how the wattage rating is obtained listed on the back of the 1014TX. Then the argument will be settled. The owners manual for the 52TX lists its wattage consumption at 480 watts as well. Yet in the review linked above it makes...

    Replace my Yamaha with 1014TX?

Ryan Interesting use of "most" in your reply. You should back up your assertion with facts. Are most people using the 1014TX saying that it is overrated, or are there one or two sceptics on one thread? Here is a link review of the Pioneer Elite 52TX home theater receiver...

    rms wattage discrepencies among brands?

John S The amplifiers in the 1014TX are not digital. Pioneer describes the amplifier structure in the 1014TX as Advanced Direct Energy Mosfet. The 1014TX was the only regular Pioneer to use this amplifier structure. I got this info from a Pioneer brochure .pdf that I downloaded from Pioneer's...

    Incredibles killed my sub

I have an Adire Audio Tumult in a 178 liter enclosure tuned to 19.5 hertz with a 1,000 watt plate amp powering it. The Incredibles caused my amp to clip. Monsters Inc. is the only other movie to make my amp clip. I was watching The Incredibles at 5db below reference levels. I was watching my...

Here is a link review of the Pioneer Elite 52TX home theater receiver. http://hometheatermag.com/receivers/...er/index2.html[/url] With five channels driven the receiver puts out 115 watts per channel. Except for a second zone option the Elite 52TX and the Pioneer 1014TX share innards and...

    1014 and SVS PB10-ISD

For music, when properly calibrated, you should not be able to tell you have a sub. Having a subwoofer does not mean having way loud bass, although the subwoofer is capable of delivering louder bass. The sub should integrate with the rest of your system. In a properly set-up home theater...

    Gran Turismo to support 480p & 1080i?

I've been playing GT4 with the new Logitech Driving Force Pro wheel since yesterday. The wheel makes the game. I've never experienced anything like it. I was taking a license exam driving an inexpensive front wheel drive Mazda. There was torque steer on launch. Also, driving a Lotus Elise has...

What Did I Do Wrong With These Passive Radiators?

I destroyed an Adire PR 15X myself. I think you might be making them a little too heavy. I think they are only rated for 1300 grams including the cone. I also destroyed the Dayton 12" DVC when I destroyed the PR15X. I was only using a 150 watt amp. I think it was because I clipped the amp. The...

    Should I go with a SVS 25-31PC+ or a 20-39PC+ for a Hi-Res audio setup?

Low group delay means that the bass arrives on-time with the rest of the music. You have probably seen bass described as fast or slow. A sub with low group delay would be described as fast and a sub with high group delay would be described as slow. Fast bass is really a misnomer because what...

    Desperately seeking BFD help!

Jeff I may be wrong here, but we don't listen to test tones. I had a similar problem as yours. I had a 20db peak at around 45 hertz. I did not get a db for db cut when I tried to reduce the peak. I would have to cut 29 db to reduce the 20 db peak. I do not have twin subs, I only have one...

    7.1 rear surround placement opinion

I have searched the forums and only found tangential information on the topic I am researching. I apologize if my search query did not catch this question. I currently have a 5.1 speaker setup. I am adding two rear surround channels for a 7.1 setup. My problem is, my sofa is placed against...

    pioneer 1014 newbie questions

David I prefer in the following order for 5.1 DTS, DD5.1, DPLII Movie (for two channel movies) Neo 6. I spend quite a bit on some serious woofage. Thus, I prefer to take the strain off of my main speakers and amplifiers using the 80 hertz crossover point. My speakers have a f3 (-3 db...

    A Shameful noobie H/K Question

An advantage of the 7.1 channels of the 1014TX is that the two back surround channels can be used to bi-amp your left/right speakers if you only want 5.1. Also, the back channels can be used as channel B amplification for a second room. That is real flexibility.

James There is no need to feel shame for liking the HK gear. They make wonderful products. I really liked the AVR 630, 525 and 520. I think that if you want to take a look at the 335 this is good. I currently own an Pioneer 1014 TX-K. The Pioneer is a fabulous receiver. It performs well...

how good is the pioneer VSX-1014 going to be compared to the elite.....

Drew The manual states that it is possible that the subwoofer distance may be longer than actual when the distance is calculated with MCSACC. My sub is about 3 feet closer than calculated by MCACC. I can't complain about this becuase my sub integration is much improved with the 1014TX...

Ulissez Hmmm... Saying something sounds echoey makes me think that the speaker distances were set incorrectly resulting in problems with channel delays. If you have the chance, run MCACC on both receivers before you listen to them. My 1014 sounds quite good, but I have not compared it to...
