Belden 1855 mini cable BNC connectors...

I need some recommendations on some good bnc connectors to put on my belden 1855 cables. I'm using them for component cables. I got these: http://www.appliedtel.com/Site/Shop/...aspx?prdID=516 And they didn't work well at all. After crimping the more or less fell off or failed to make a...

    Stripping Coax tips

Yeah, I guess it works ok. I was a little concerned that I was able to pull the wire out, but it didn't come out without a little force. These will be going in the wall, so once they are in place they will never be moving. I guess we'll see when I hook all this stuff up!

    Stripping Coax tips

Also of note, the link to the pdf page of the connector specs I believe is not the exact same ones that I have. I just realized the part numbers do not match the ones I ordered. They look similar, but mine are made for the 1855a (.16) mini cables.

    Stripping Coax tips

Well, I ordered the connectors that they recommended (the ones in the link) as well as the stripper/crimper in that same link. When stripped down, the white part fits perfectly inside that center tube, while the rest slides on the outside of the center tube, as you see in the picture. Then...

    Stripping Coax tips

Hmmm, I followed the link from where I bought the cable that took me to the connectors for that cable and that is what I got... http://www.hometech.com/techwire/coax.html#BE-7787A The cable seems to fit in the connector just fine, I just can't crimp it. Here are some images of what...

    Stripping Coax tips

Ok, for reference, here is the BNC connectors I got: http://www.coastcatvsupply.com/Holla...le%20bnc%22%22 I tried crimping one, but i'll be honest i've never done that and I could not get it to crimp. Where do you crimp it at? At the top, smooth part of the metal or the rippled part? I...

    Stripping Coax tips

Thanks for all the tips guys. I bought the connectors, crimper, and stripper that was recommended for that cable. I tried putting one on to see how it would fit (without crimping it) and it seems to be pretty simple. I do have 3 extras (needed 12, came in packs of 5). I also bought 1 extra foot...

    Stripping Coax tips

I just got my belden 7787a bundled coax, a stripper, and a crimpter in today. I bought a little extra wire to practice with. I've never done this before so i'm not sure what is supposed to be stripped and what is not. I'm connecting this to a one piece crimp style bnc connector. When I...

    Coax Question

You will definately need a separate run for the attic antenna. As someone mentioned before, you can't combine that with the cable. Do you plan on splitting the antenna signal too? If so, you can run that right to the basement box, split it and then run the cables for the antenna around the...

    Ambient lighting behind display??

Ok, I found my order info from a few years back. Here is where I got it: http://www.blanksfab.com/fullspec/lumi.htm The bulb cost me $18.75 shipped. It is a LUMICHROME fluorescent lamp, 6500°K, 98 C.R.I. That's the highest CRI i've found. I had to call them to order, but they were great...

    Running component cables through wall

I haven't seen any of those on the sites i've been to, but that doesn't mean they are not out there. I thought about doing that at first, but then decided I wanted a stronger connection and went with the BNC-BNC jack, and bought cables with RCA-BNC ends.

    Python Cables... any good?

LOL! Tell me about it! But, she has been pretty good... Gave me a pretty good budget for speakers, wiring, connections, etc for the new house. I'm just down the the knitty gritty now and trying to get the last of it. Good deal. The price on those is awesome and will help alot!

    Python Cables... any good?

I need to buy 4 sets of component cables (BNC—>RCA). All sets need to be around 3-6ft (I prefer 2 sets of 3' and 2 sets of 4' if I had a choice). Cost is a factor, because i'm already pushing the budget that my wife gave me to finish out my HT in the new home :-) Anyone have any...

    Ambient lighting behind display??

Keep in mind that the idea behind using the 6400K bulb with the super high CRI rating is that it is natural lighting, which will help your eyes see the true colors of the tv. If you use colored or tinted bulbs, this could technically affect the way your colors are produced on the tv. Not sure...

    Ambient lighting behind display??

I just picked up a simple florescent fixture at walmart, then replaced the bulb with a 6500K natural light bulb. I had to mail order the bulb, I think it cost me about $25 shipped. Makes a world of difference when viewing a movie. Nice, soft, ambient lighting. I mounted the fixture right to the...

    Running component cables through wall

Slowly...but surely! My inwall length will only be 18-20'. I'll try to find the appropriate bundled cable. Any recommendations? Here is a belden that is 100% copper (at least I think that is what the spec said): http://www.hometech.com/techwire/coax.html#BE-7787A

    Running component cables through wall

Yes, that all makes sense. Upon doing more research, I see that there are duel shield and quad shield cables. What would be the more appropriate? The only quad shield cable I found was sold by the foot and I would have to put the BNC connectors on myself, and I don't have the tools for that...

    Running component cables through wall

Ok, i'm a bit of a novice when it comes to cable construction, but if I'm understanding what you are saying then I can use RG6/U coax for my in wall component cables? Like this here? http://eventhorizon-srv.com/ecommerc...roducts_id=835 Will that be a better solution than these in-wall...

    Running component cables through wall

Thanks! Does it matter if they are gold plated or not? I didn't see that option at cableorganizer.com. I also didn't see an option to color code them. I found them here: http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/keystone.html#bnc color coded, but they are twice as much.

    Running component cables through wall

Thanks, those are some good tips. The last site I listed has an in-wall rated cable with the option to put bnc on both ends. However, i've not found a wallplate with bnc connectors yet. Also, I did plan on running an s-video as well. I'll actually have 2 component (dvd, hdtv) and 1 s-video...

    Running component cables through wall

I'm currently having a house built and the layout will put my rack and tv across the room from one another. What i'd like to do is run component cables under the house (crawl) and in the wall to passthrough wall jacks as seen below: (front/back) I'm trying to determine the best type (or...

    end table subwoofers?

Here is my oak finished (clear coat) endtable. It is covered in oak and oak plywood, houses 2 15" Subs and driven by 2 MA500 monoblock amplifiers (Marantz). I actually mounted it to the floor with 4 "L" brackets to help the vibrations work with the floor instead of against it. All my DIY...

    HDTV antenna question- Indoor antenna?

Well, I'm going to stick with the one I got. It seems to work just fine (at half strenght) with CBS and ABC. No dropouts so far. As far as NBC goes, I wrote our station and they said it is looking like the first part of next year before they go live. Apparently they are still waiting for FCC...

    HDTV antenna question- Indoor antenna?

Would you recommend a good UHF antenna that's under $50 that will do at least the same as the one I have? I'd hate to have to take the one I have down but if it would save me some money I think it would be worth it. The one I got cost $68. I'd still like the antenna to have a VHF section in case...

    HDTV antenna question- Indoor antenna?

Well to follow up on my experiences... The Radio Shack antenna gave me half strength on ABC only. No other signal available. So, I got the Silver Sensor to see if I could get a better signal. I ended up with a worse signal than the Radio Shack model! Not even half strength. So, I got a...

    HDTV antenna question- Indoor antenna?

Well, I didn't have much time to shop around so I just picked up a cheapie rotor based antenna from radio shack just to see how things would go. I Can only get one station (ABC 40) and only at half power. Looking at my map it appears that ABC, NBC and CBS are all coming from the same direction...
