Has anyone figured out if the black level expander can be defeated (movie mode doesn't seem to alter this.) And how do you lessen uneven brightness (brighter in the center than at the edges)?

Is this a good non-flat TV? Does it have known geometry or red push problems that can't be corrected in the service menu? I don't have any use for flat screens or silver cabinets so the notion of getting a name brand 2-tuner PIP set for $299 is attractive. Any opinions welcome.
