Greetings. I've pretty much decided to get this Sony due to the fact that I play XBOX a lot, and I'm paranoid as hell about screen burn. Actually, I'm pretty much paranoid in general about any static images burning into an RPTV, even though I'd love to have a big screen. Anyway, does anyone...
Well, I know there has been a Sony press release mentioned in the Sony XBR thread indicating Sony will release DVI/HDCP sets in the summer and fall. I also read a 15 page article in Widescreen Review last night about D-VHS, that pretty much answers all the questions that were brought up in the...
As I've been thinking about what to buy, I've been reading about all the DVI/HDCP stuff. Maybe the right thing to do is to wait until summer/fall to buy one of the newer DVI/HDCP compatible sets.
I'm not familiar with DIRECTV. Since you say it has a built in satellite receiver, what else would you have to do to receive HDTV programming? Also, the fact that the projection TVs come with stands is another reason they make more sense to me. If I get a direct-view TV, I'll have to buy a stand.
I definitely want a widescreen TV, and after looking around, the direct-views are much more expensive than the projection TVs. It looks like my best options for under $2000 are the Panasonic PT-47WX49, or the Toshiba 42H81. Any thoughts on either of these TVs?

I live in an apartment, and I currently own a 32" Toshiba television (non-HDTV). Eventually, I'd like to purchase a high-end HDTV, such as a Pioneer Elite Pro 720HD, but for now I want one to accommodate my current situation. I sit about five feet away from the TV, so what do you think would...
Vince,
You were correct in assuming I was talking about the crossover on the receiver. I lowered the crossover to 150 last night, and I changed the LFE Attenuation to +10db; these changes seemed to help. I also re-calibrated to 85db, so that reference is now at -10 (master volume). I set...
Thanks for your help. The receiver's default setting for the LFE attenuation is 0, but I had set it to 10 during calibration; I can't remember why. I do know that I changed it back to 0 because some guy on audio review said that's the only way to get bass out of this receiver. He said setting...
Greetings. I just set up my new Pioneer HTP-710 home theater system over the weekend, and I need some input as to whether or not I calibrated everything correctly using the AVIA disc. First of all, I set the receiver's master volume to -20. I then proceeded to adjust each channel's level to...
I've looked at the Dolby site before, but it seems to me that Dolby's speaker placement suggestions are for Dipole surrounds. I say this because I've always seen direct radiating surrounds placed on the back wall. Is this correct, or would any of Dolby's suggestions also work for my direct...
I've ordered the Pioneer HTP-710 home-theater-in-a-box system, and I'm trying to figure out where to put the five satellite speakers. The speakers come with keyhole wall mounting brackets built in, but you can only rotate them to the left or right 35 degrees. I was planning on putting the rear...
All my surrounds will have to be on the wall behind the couch. The Left/Right surrounds will be in the corners, but since I have a vaulted ceiling, I could either put the center higher or at the same level. I guess it just wouldn't look as good if it was at the same level, and I wanted to know...
If a reciever decodes Dolby Digital and DTS-ES Matrix, will you hear sound out of the rear center surround speaker if you're listening to a Dolby Digital EX track?
I ran into this when reading about the Pioneer VSX-D810S receiver I'm getting. It says it's compatible with DTS-ES Matrix, and it has an amplified rear center surround channel. So, this means that the center channel is extracted from the left and right surround channels, right? Am I correct...
Interesting...Crutchfield says it comes with a 6-1/2" woofer, but the place I'm getting it from says it's an 8" cone. Is a cone the same thing as a woofer?
Yeah...the 8" sub is supposed to be included. By the way, I read that the receiver accepts banana jacks for the speaker inputs. Do the speakers that come with it and that center channel speaker accept them also? I just want to know if I can get some speaker cable that has banana jack connectors.
I'm gonna order the HTP-710 system tomorrow, and I'm probably also gonna get that center speaker you mentioned. The receiver that comes with the JTP-710 is the VSX-D810S.
I've been looking at the manual, and I'm confused by the fact that it specifies what type of input device corresponds to each digital input. DVD is assigned to the coax input. I have to connect the DVD player via optical cable, so does this mean that when I select the DVD input on the receiver...
I've looked on that Dolby page before, and what I found particularly interesting was one of the alternative placement options they suggest; they suggest placing the surrounds on stands behind the couch, facing upward.
