Need opinions on room size/speaker placement...etc.

David...Thank you for responding to my questions. That is a very nice setup you have there. I agree the second row will need to be 5' back from the front as I will have recliners there as you mentioned. I have always had smaller surrounds that I have ceiling mounted in the past. How do most...

Need opinions on room size/speaker placement...etc.

I am getting ready to move into a home and I am going to have a dedicated Home Theater room built in the basement. I have plenty of questions and any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. Current equipment consist of an Hitachi Elite 65” HDTV (will eventually be replaced with a front...

    RPTV's and 720p?

Dan, The Hitachis handle 720p. As John said that does nothing for you as far as DVDs are concerned because those are 480i/p. If you are an Xbox player though you might want 720p capability for some of the xbox games that support it. You can get as large as the 65" S500 Series Hitachis...

hitachi 65s700 for $2350 after rebate

I have the 65S500 (same thing without the built in HDTV tuner). You can find a lot of info on this tv at avsforum.com. If you adjust the tv correctly I think DVDs look very good

The Death of a Pioneer Elite 45TX

Sure JimSpamoni...the company is www.Soundpros.com They are out of San Diego. So far I have been very impressed with them and would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to buy HT equipment online. They had one of the best prices I found on the Elite 45TX at $760.

The Death of a Pioneer Elite 45TX

I'm sure I will be happy with the reciever. I sure feel teased by getting to listen to it for 5 hours before it's demise. I didn't crank it up to extreme levels at all during the time I had it. The setup turns the volume to -0 for the test tones but other than that it was at pretty normal...

The Death of a Pioneer Elite 45TX

I would have to imagine that it was a faulty power supply since there was no electricity being passed through the unit but who knows. The manufacture date was March 2003. I haven't read of many people having problems with the 45TX and it really sounded good to me so I'm not hesitating at all...

The Death of a Pioneer Elite 45TX

Well I got my Elite 45TX on Wednesday and after setting my home theater speakers up for 7.1 surround sound I finally got to plug my new reciever in and try it out. I ran the auto calibration which is a very nice feature. Played about half of the Gladiator and was amazed at how much better it...

    Buying Pioneer Online

Most of the online dealers are not authorized Pioneer Elite dealers. Pioneer says they will not honor the warranty. I bought mine from Soundpros.com which I dont belive is an authorized dealer but the claim they will back the warranty even if Pioneer doesn't. They are also a member of the Better...

    Where can I order a Pioneer 45tx .........

Hi Brad, I ordered my Elite 45TX on Thursday from Soundpro.com. It is scheduled to be delivered this Wednesday by UPS. The price was one of the best I've seen at $760 + shipping. They seem to be a very reputable dealer. They are a member of the Better Business Bureau with no outstanding...

    Overkill for Home Theater

Thanks for the info everyone! I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase the Elite 45TX. Now I just have to figure out where to buy it from. I was thinking about going with Soundpro.com as they have one of the best prices I've found and I haven't been able to find anything negative about them so...

    Overkill for Home Theater

The Elite 45TX owners manual recommends 8 ohm speakers but it does have the switch for 4 ohm / 8 ohm. The Pioneer 912 manual pretty much cautions against anything lower than 8 ohms. I'm not sure about the Kenwood 6070 as I didn't see any information in thier manual about using anything...

    Overkill for Home Theater

The room is about 15x13. I would say I will be keeping the receiver as long as it supports the latest formats/channels. I don't believe there are "many" movies out yet that support 6.1 channels and all are DD or DTS so my hope is that the receiver will last me 4-5 years minimum. I will be...

    Overkill for Home Theater

I am looking at getting a Pioneer Elite 45 to replace my older Kenwood reciever (5.1 and no DTS). I will be using this receiver almost 100% for movies. I have PSB Image 5Ts for the fronts, PSB 9C for center a Kenwood subwoofer and Infinity minuettes for the surrounds. Is the Pioneer Elite 45...

Where's the best place/site to buy Pioneer Elite 45tx?

Timber, I was thinking it would still be a lot cheaper to get it from somewhere that may not be authorized and spend the $50 for the Phillips service plan. I would be interested in hearing from someone that has had to use the Phillips service plan to see what thier experience was. I'm...

Where's the best place/site to buy Pioneer Elite 45tx?

If the serial number is altered that would mean to me that the box is no longer factory sealed and and in my mind can no longer be considered brand new and I wouldn't accept it. I will look for the thread about the factory seal being scratched off so I can make sure I avoid that vendor...

Where's the best place/site to buy Pioneer Elite 45tx?

Thanks for the link Garth. Do you know if they are authorized to sell Pioneer? They state that they are not an authorized dealer of Yamaha, Denon and Acoustic Research but do not mention Pioneer in this exclusion. Also have you had any personal experience with this company? I will see if I can...

Best reciever under $1k to match with my PSB speakers

I have been considering the Denon 3802. My only concern with it is that it only has 3 digital optical inputs which I will already max out with DVD/Sat Dish/Xbox. Although unless I hook up another video game system I'm not sure what I would hook a 4th optical output to.

Best reciever under $1k to match with my PSB speakers

I am looking primarily for a HT reciever as I will use it very little for music. I have PSB Image 5Ts for fronts and Image 9C for middle and currently Infinity minis for surround. What would be a good match under 1K.

Exactly how do receivers and extrnal amps work together?

I called Kenwood technical service and the guy said I should be fine under normal listening conditions. He also said the reciever will automatically power down if it can't handle the load.

Exactly how do receivers and extrnal amps work together?

Personally I believe a stupid question is usually one that is asked after the problem has occured which is what I am trying to avoid. My Kenwood 1080VR receiver only refers to the channels being driven 120 W each at 8 ohms so should I keep a fire extinquisher near by?:) or better yet use this...

Exactly how do receivers and extrnal amps work together?

Thanks for the links Vince! Some related questions. 1. So is an external amp always going to give you better quality sound and more power even if its wpc is rated lower than your receiver? 2. In one of the links it mentioned that 4ohm speakers needed twice as much power as 8 ohm speakers...

Well I never thought I would get an X-Box but....

I definately wont pass up a free one! In select cities Executrain is offering a free X-Box if you take one of thier 5 day courses by mid April. The company I work for is sending me to one of these classes in 2 weeks so I will get free training and a free X-Box. Well this is one way MS can...

Exactly how do receivers and extrnal amps work together?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but I'm trying to figure out how these things work. If you have a 100 watt per channel receiver and you add a 5 channel amp at 80 wpc does it increase your per channel power to a total of 180 watts or are you bypassing the internal amp and getting 80...

How do I know if my receiver can handle my speakers?

I have heard that an underpowered receiver can damage your speakers. I currently have a Kenwood 1080VR Dolby Digital : Front 120w + 120w, Center 120w, Surround 60w + 60w I just ordered PSB Image 5T Fronts and the 9C center speaker. Which have a Recommended input power of 10 - 175 watts...

    HTD Lvl3 Tower/Center vs Paradigm Monitor 9/CC-370

And the winner is.....PSB. I coudn't convince myself that the HTD speakers would satisfy me in the long run even though the price was very attractive. I didn't have a way to audition these speakers so I based this on the few comparisons here between the HTD and Paradigm. I had all but made the...
