Jeremy, I think you've got your SPL meter inaccuracy backwards. It runs 2-3dB high not 2-3dB low (this is what I read from Tom V.) so to calibrate it "even" with your fronts you'd want it at 88dB on the rat shack meter.
Chris.. with your mains set to large, any low tones that are actually sent to the mains will be played by them. Any "LFE" tones (on the LFE track of a 5.1 disc) will be played by the subwoofer, and not the mains. This is settable on my receiver (yamaha 5560) to "both" so the LFE goes to both...
Dan, they don't use CRT projectors in the theaters, they use DLP or film projectors. No scan lines on either. I havent heard reports of pixellation or any other resolution related problems though.
Dan, Star Wars ep. 2 is being shown in DLP theaters across the country in a resolution of approximately 1280x800 (accounting for line loss due to 2.35:1) and it doesn't look like 'crap', far from it. :)
I wonder if it's the inaccuracy of LP's combined with all of the dust and junk on the surface of it causing errors which makes it sound "live" rather than the perfect digital copy of the studio master which you get with a CD. Myself, I prefer the CD, but I've never liked concerts either.
Well, this sounds amazing, but the power boards to the CRT's were not connected. The three circuit boards which are supposed to be connected to the bottom of the CRT guns were simply laying on the floor of the TV (inside).. in 2 minutes they were reconnected, we did the convergence, and the...
Scaling is way overblown, I have the RP56 and PT47WX49. 1.85 DVD's are full screen, 2.35 DVD's have small black bars. 4:3 DVD's are a problem, but I only have one of them (Full Metal Jacket) out of 60 other movies/discs. For this one I just put the DVD player in interlaced mode and either run...
I guess what I'm wondering is, has anyone had this type of problem before, and was it fixable, or was the thing basically fubar. I don't want continuing problems down the road with this, but if it's something dumb like power cord to the CRTs not connected, and they connect it and presto it...
Hi All - I got my PT47WX49 delivered Saturday and it looks physically fine, but when I turn it on, I get no video. Now this isn't your ordinary "no video" problem, I get *nothing*. When I hit tv/video, I don't see it cycling through the TV, Component 1, Component 2, Video 1 like I did in the...
Jeff, thanks! I was going to print the ad from Continental trade, but they aren't advertising the 47" 16:9 panasonic, only the 51" 4:3 one. Oh well :) Thanks though, hopefully it'll work out.
I'm going to buy my Panasonic 47" HDTV today at sears, and I have my price-match in-hand.
I currently have printed the ads from Advanced Video Systems , Plazma-Electronics , and BestToys.net . Have any of you tried these, and whats the general procedure? Anything special I should say/do in...
Andrew.. they already have the master keys to HDCP. That means you can avoid the blacklist because you can actually tell your own device what the blacklist is. HDCP can be completely circumvented, regardless of how they decide to use the keys, because they cannot change the master key. If...
Andrew, educate me on how the "legal" Players get the new key and use it if they just up and switch keys? I don't want this to turn into a "how to hack HDCP" discussion since I know that type of thing isn't allowed on the forums.. but I'm willing to bet however the legal players get the new...
Andrew, I don't see why adding HDCP makes it any harder. It's been shown already that the keys are crackable, and that you can completely usurp the authority of HDCP. I won't post any links here but suffice to say it's been done. I agree these things would be illegal and not the preferred...
I just thought I'd debunk the "4:3 is cheaper for a bigger screen" rumor thats been going around. I spent a few minutes and found some examples on yahoo shopping of models that are very closely related in features besides for being 16:9 or 4:3. Here's what I came up with.
Mitsubishi 65" -...
Andrew, I think DVI users will eventually be upset when the studios/broadcasters start using HDCP for what we all know it is really intended for, content control. The people with the converter boxes will be able to watch what they bought when they please, those with DVI will be subject to the...
Andrew - you're assuming I'm talking about a DVI-in, component out converter box, which I'm not. The converter would come before the mpeg stream is decoded into a DVI (which is analog-over-digital) format. And I'm not talking about recording DVI - that would be alot to handle. I'm talking...
Andrew, I'm not sure if it breaks the rules of the forum or not to say this, but I'm quite certain there will be converter boxes available to convert DVI/HDCP to a component output. Whether they are legal or not is up in the air, but I don't really care that much. To say that everyone who...
Andrew, funny how alot of people "knew from the outset what was going on" but nobody spoke up until it became reality. Interesting coincidence, wouldn't you say?
On that note, I have a friend who needs a new computer.. he has a Pentium 166. He keeps reading about the next big thing coming in 3 months, and wants to wait for it. Once that is out, there is a next big thing again. It's been 2 years since he decided to buy a new computer, and he's still...
