Did you make sure that your "A speakers" were on? Generally there's an A/B switch to switch btw your A & B speakers, but you can also toggle it so they are both off.

Just out of curiosity, where did you get the stands for the 340s that you guys are talking about? Is there a picture of it somewhere and is it another unadvertised product that Ascend carries?

The only way you'd get speaker wires included is if you bought a shelf mini-system or a home-theater-in-a-box (HTiB) I think. Most speakers sets or pairs don't come with speaker wire. One of the best place to get it is at Home Depot for < 24 cents/foot.
