Need white 14 or 12 ga speaker wire

Anyone point me to a source? The only white I've seen is 16 ga or smaller, and the larger stuff seems to have clear insulation. Thanks Alan

    Looking for a Value Sub - AR-S108PS or Sony SA-WM40 or ?

There are a lot of posts about JBL PB-12's dying in the reviews on www.audioreview.com (I think that's the site, either that or eopinions.com). Made me very wary. Alan

Should I tin speaker wire ends?

No, not to replace the plugs. The binding posts have holes through the diameter of the threaded part, you put the wire through that and tighten the collars down.

    Added sub - no difference?

Thanks for replies, everyone. I was afraid of the "cheap sub in large room" factor. As much as I'd love to get something "beefier", the S.O. thinks I'm nuts to spend even $150 on a sub (snide remarks about men and their toys). Oh well. Alan

Should I tin speaker wire ends?

If I tin the bare ends of speaker wires with solder (they are going into binding posts, don't see the need to spend $$ on banana plugs), is that bad? I don't like the way bare wire tends to ravel, but I don't want to spring for nice cable and then do something to degrade the connection...

    SAWM-40 Help.

Oops, forgot to say, if that's the scenario, setting your mains to "small" will result in the sub getting the bass when you play music and your problem will be solved. Keep the sub crossover where it is, the reciever handles that. Alan

    SAWM-40 Help.

Some receivers will not route bass from the mains (left and right stereo channels) to the subs unless the mains are set to "small". If that's the case with your receiver, and "normal" means "not small", then you are getting bass from the sub from the LFE (.1) channel when you watch movies (so...

    Added sub - no difference?

I quickly set up my new sub (Sony SAWM-40 - this is an el cheapo HT setup, don't ask) this morning before running off to work (couldn't wait). Switched my mains (KEF C40s) from "large" to "small", turn SW to "on", turn sub crossover to 170, sub vol to 1/2, popped in Avia and ran the subwoofer...

    SPL Meter and my sub

I got different responses between my Sony's (cheap model) built in tones and Avia. But then, the tones clearly sound different, and the frequency response of my speakers is nowhere near flat (I think living room is the problem, because I just can't believe my Polk center would have a 15db+...

    AR p112ps or Sony WMA-40?

Please excuse my mentioning these lowly subs in this select group, but I have a inflexible top limit of $200. Has anyone compared these two subs? It will be used for music (classical & jazz) as well as HT. I'm a little concerned about what I've heard about the Sony's boominess...

    Front-firing or down-firing sub?

My living room floor is the (carpeted) concrete slab the house is built on (nothing under the carpet but carpte pad). Will this affect the performance of a down-firing sub vs a front-firing one? Thanks in advance for any repies. Alan
