I apologize if this has been mentioned before, but I seem to remember Robby The Robot appearing in an episode of Lost In Space. Can anyone corroborate or am I dreaming?
A number of people over at AVSforum have reported the discontinuance of the RP-82, CP-72, XP-50 and XP-30. All these used DCDi deinterlacing chip. Their new line, ...S35, et. al.(I forget the model #'s) all utilize Panasonic's new all-in-one chip which does both the MPEG decoding and the...
The Denon 900 has been described in another forum as having an "overly soft" picture. Secrets attributes this to the uneven video frequency response of the 900.
Watched this Sat night. I could see EE all over the place in this transfer. By comparison, the night before I watched "The Panic Room" .... no EE anywhere, very nice picture.
I guess my S360 is one of the lucky ones. Bought it July 2000 and haven't had one glitch, skip or the 13:00 problem. I saw the same problem comments over at that site last fall and have been waiting for my unit to fail so I could have an excuse to upgrade. ;) But, the damn thing just keeps...
AlbertH, Han: Does the 4800 have the capability to change the gray side bars to black when viewing a 4:3 DVD on your xxH81 Tosh TV's? I've got a 50HX81 and the gray bars are really starting to bug me. So far, the only players I know of are the RP91 and the Malata.
Your progressive scan DVD player will take priority...when fed a progressive signal, the Tosh will have its deinterlacer circuitry bypassed. The 1600 lines horiz. resolution is mostly theoretical and only an issue with a HD signal. In reality, it's probably closer to 1100-1200.
It's $16.99, by the way, at Target here in Calif.
Has it ever been determined what the OAR actually is? From the previous posts on this thread, it seems up in the air.
Yes Vic, it is a good start. But the direct-view sets will be the key. The masses still buy mostly direct-view sets. When they become mostly digital then we'll have arrived!
Since I already have a Tosh. DST-3000 to receive OTA HD stations, I signed up for the Blockbuster 1-room system last Fri($30). I asked for the Para Todos package and this afternoon, the installer pulled up with the oval dish, installed the cheapie Hughes receiver in the bedroom and I activated a...
I apologize in advance if this has been discussed before in any Star Trek thread:
Just how does a hologram being pick up, hold and use an object, when it is just an image made of light?
Ok, Ok ... you've all talked me into it. I'll be picking this one up next week, even with the small glasses. Anyone tried making their own? Can it be done?
"The Tingler" was a hoot when I was a kid. Scary in its day. I remember some theaters had some of the seats rigged with buzzers and such...
I saw this version in Best Buy the other day(~$14) and it's supposed to come with the old 3-D glasses. Is it worth picking up or will I be wasting my time and money?
Local Best Buy had only 2 copies and I got one. Going to watch it tonight. I've never seen this film in its OAR...only on 4:3 TV versions. My favorite Harryhausen film.
Haven't seen it in about 20 years.
I did about six 9-pt convergences on my HX81 also before I did a 56-pt service mode convergence. There was no 'hourglass distortion' on my set. I wouldn't worry about it. If there is any geometry issues with these sets, it was probably there from the start.
1. Non-OAR only releases
2. Ditch the word 'Fullscreen' . It is a misleading term.
3. Non-anamorphic titles
4. Liberal use of Edge Enhancement(or whatever is causing the effect) i.e: Phantom Menace
5. Where are the classics? 30's & 40's
6. Snapper cases
7. Easter Eggs...get rid of them
From reading some of the earlier posts, I get the feeling some of you were bound and determined to dislike this movie. I sense a lot of overanalyzing. If you wanted, you could plot-nitpick and rip apart every movie that's existed.
Yah, this movie has a bunch of holes, but I think some of you...
My video system: Tosh 50HX81 16:9 HDTV + old Sony S360 interlaced DVD player, Silver Serpent component cables.
The only SB title I have is 5th Element and it looks great, but I never had the non-SB version. Would I expect to see much difference on my system between these two versions? Or...
The 1960 version is more true to the book, although it took a few liberties also. I have no problem with the depiction of the Morlocks other than they 'hunted' during the day. And the book never had any 'supreme-controller' Morlock....but he WAS rather nasty looking.
The only other part of...
Got the JP DVD & box on Tues.(3/5) and the free DVD yesterday(Thu. 3/7). Sent in the checks 2 days after release. Thought for sure I'd get my 2nd choice(Rocky&Bullwinkle), but they sent Dragonheart, my 1st choice. Two punch holes through the bar code. Box was in top shape.
DINOSAUR: Top-notch animated transfer. 'The egg's Journey' sequence is a great demo.
U-571: Tremendous bass work-out. Excellent use of surrounds for the sub's noises (clanks, clinks & groans)
MOULIN ROUGE: Great picture, vibrant colors, great extras.
