    Hitachi 42V515

You probably need to set the DVD player to output Component. Many times, it will output Composite OR Component, but not both at the same time. You say the Composite works fine, which means the player must be set to output Composite. When you try to use Component, do you change any settings...

What cabling do I need for DVI and HDMI?

Go with HDMI cabling. And I wouldn't make them yourself. As it is, there is testing done by TV/STB/cable manufacturers for interoperability. One test is cable distance. I'm not sure how long your run will be, but of course as short as possible is best. I've seen testing of 20m cables, the...

    Hitachi 60VS810 vs. 57F510

Well, with price out of the equation I'd take the 60VS810 hands down, no contest. LCD technology so no worries about burn in and the picture is unbelievable imo. Additionally, it has a built in digital tuner and CableCARD capability that the F510 doesn't have. Plus it has 2 HDMI inputs where I...

Are all of tese people buying HD TV's getting ripped off??

What kind of useless thread is this? You don't make any sense. Should I sue a company because I paid $500 for my first CD player back in the 80's, when I can have one today that plays DVD/CD/MP3 for only $80? Could it be that in the 80's, it actually COST more for them to manufacture a CD player...

How do I hook up my computer to a Hitatchi F510

Dare I say, read the owner's manual. The section in front labeled Rear Panel Jacks has a note under the HDMI Input section that says: The HDMI input is not intended for use with personal computers.

Rear projection CRT or LCD? (Hitachi/Toshiba)

I don't quite follow the reasoning behind the RP-CRT being more dependent on room light conditions than other types of RP sets. All these TV's will be affected by the amount of light in the room. Seems to me the worst thing for RP sets in general are the reflective protective shields.

    32HDT50M for sale

I have had this 32HDT50M for only 5 months, but decided I need a larger screen. I paid $3999 for this unit, and it is still selling for this price at local retail stores. I am selling this for $2500. This price includes the 32" plasma, AudioVideoCenter(AVC), and remote control. Since I no longer...

Removal of protective screen on 51S500

Well, I know you'll adjust focus after you restack. The point is technically, you should never be able to get the focus as good as if you didn't have that additional light refraction caused by restacking. I do agree that the shields were added mainly for marketing. The problem is, now many...

Removal of protective screen on 51S500

I will tell you that removing it completely will reduce the contrast ratio, of course if the ambient light in the room is high this will reduce contrast ratio as well and if it glares so much as to blind you when watching then by all means remove it. To be honest, I had never heard of...

Removal of protective screen on 51S500

Well, you shouldn't remove the protective shield permanently for 2 reasons. First, the shield has some tinting which improves contrast ratio. Second, if you do and try to put the screen back in it will be very loose in the frame because it will be that much thinner without the protective shield...

Removal of protective screen on 51S500

This is a bit of work, but nothing too difficult. First take off the screen frame from the TV. You will need to remove the speaker grille to get to all the screws on the bottom side of the screen frame. Once all screws are removed, pull the bottom of the screen frame so that it 'pops' off, then...

    Metallica

Hmmm, a little sarcasm. There's quite a bit of difference between the CD and car scenario, don't you think? I am not necessarily asking for an exact replacement, but they could offer some type of database which would show my purchase of some given content. Thus, they could give me access to...

    Metallica

I've listened since ~'88. In college the Black album came out, got so sick of 'Enter Sandman'. Seems like once they went mainstream with that one, it just turned me off. Haven't listened to any of their new stuff since then. But I still like the first 5 albums. Now, the Napster thing was...

STB or Integrated HDTV - Which One?

I would disagree, but depending upon a users needs. A STB does offer a great degree of flexibility, but... What about 1394? I am not sure about the future of this connection, but only integrated sets have them. If you want a set which will have all necessary connections for the future...

    HELP! w/ Hitachi 57TWX20B

Matt, Let me try this again, I tried to reply earlier but when I hit submit my computer crashed. Dark spot in center bottom of screen: -- This sounds like one of the sensors used for Magic Focus is creating this shadow. But I am not sure why you would see shadows on the left and right...

How loud is HT really supposed to sound?

Sebastian, I am glad you brought this issue up. I also set my system to reference levels using Video Essentials, but found that the dialogue was difficult to hear. I think some of it has to do with the volume 'de-sensitizing' my ears(listen to loud music, after a while it doesn't seem loud so...

    Buy Now or Wait?

Regarding waiting, I agree with David that if you wait for prices to drop, sets will be out with DVI by then. I would encourage anyone ready to spend over $2k to wait maybe 3 months, by then most manufacturers will have released new sets which have DVI(with HDCP of course). I don't...

    Loud bass effects on fish?

I was wondering about this also, since I plan to put a ~55gal. in our living room about 20 feet from the sub and front speakers. I would have to agree, that from my college days we were taught that water is a better transmission medium than air, because it is denser. And when you go to a pet...

    Subwoofer music calibration

RR, I am with you on this one. I have calibrated my system with the VE disc, very happy with my system for home theater. For music, I usually run the sub 4~5 dB hotter(which by the way is a SVS 20-39CS Plus with samson1000 amp) . I guess maybe we are just used to more bass in music. I...

Hitachi 53UDX10b Step by step Manual Convergance?

Sonny, I guess you have already been warned of the dangers of doing any service menu/convergence menu adjustments(it is easy to really screw up the TV and may void the warranty). When doing manual convergence adjustment, just remember that you can turn off the TV(or better yet, unplug...

    Speaker layouts Klipsch

Aaron, I think there are some good comments here already, but I will add my 2 cents. I recently purchased a system with main use being 80%music/20%theater(that may change now though). I decided to go with the RF5 with RC3 center and RS3 surround. I think if you plan to listen to any...

    hd help

Dan, I am surprised the saleperson where you bought your TV can't/won't give you an easy answer. You need to upgrade your receiver. The regular DirecTV satellite(101) uses voltage to switch the LNB polarity. But with the elliptical dish, the 119 satellite(where HD programming lies)...

    Sound Problem with RCA DTC100

Jeff, I have experienced similar problems with this receiver, only instead of no sound I would sometimes get a 'popping' sound(pop-pop-pop-pop....). After a while, I became afraid this might ruin my speakers and switched to the Mits. HD5. From my numerous complaints to TCE, I finally...
