Progressive scan DVD and Film setting on TV

Ace, I have the Toshiba SD-5700. It seems to work very well, but I haven't compared to others. My only other DVD player is a 3 year old Sony, non-progressive scan, that is going in the bedroom. I was looking at the SD-4700 after reading good reviews of it for progressive scan players in the...

Progressive scan DVD and Film setting on TV

Thanks. As a follow-up, is this FILM setting only relevant when watching a DVD? or does it also improve broadcast television? I guess I might as well just leave it on all the time, unless there is some reason not to. Thanks again for the advice. Keith

Progressive scan DVD and Film setting on TV

Hello, I received my Toshiba 57HX81 today and recently purchased a progressive scan DVD player. My question is - do I use both the 3:2 pulldown (FILM) on the TV and progressive output on the DVD player at the same time? Or am I only supposed to use one or the other? Thank you. Keith

    Toshiba 57HX81 and future standards

Jon - thanks for the info. The whole issue is very confusing, but based on the info you've provided (i.e., that I'll be able to watch regular TV for a long time on this set - in some fashion), I'm not going to cancel the order. Of course, that's what I was hoping would be the case, I'm really...

    Toshiba 57HX81 and future standards

Thanks from the reply. I hope I don't get stuck just using an antennae. I suspect I should at least be able to continue to receive some sort of analog signal at least from the cable company, albeit not high def, if this new scheme comes to pass. I've read that the transition to hdtv must be...

    Toshiba 57HX81 and future standards

Hello, I ordered a Toshiba 57HX81 which I should be receiving soon. Now, I see all these discussions on the new copy protection schemes which may take place in the future. I saw that there were enormous threads dedicated to this subject, so my question is very specific and not aimed at the...

    New Home Theater Questions

Thanks for all the input. I did kind of throw everything out there in one shot - sorry about that. I have to say, I listened to a sunfire sub when I purchased the paradigm speakers. It goes for $1900 but the guy had one refurbished for $1100 - it was way too much for my wife's taste, and a...

    New Home Theater Questions

Hello, I moved into a new house and am setting up a home theater. My previous home theater was a small one in my apt. with a 27 inch TV. I've ordered a Toshiba 57HX81 and today received a Toshiba 5700 DVD player, as I was told the HDTV would benefit from using a progressive scan DVD player...

    Speaker Advice

Hello, I am about to move into the house that I've been having built for the last year. My small aiwa mini home theater that has served me well through law school and now in my apt. for a few years died the other night. I would like to setup up a moderate home theater using my existing sony...
