    August Austin HTF meet.

Master, if I may be so bold. May I leave the laboratory in August for this gathering? I promise not to stray too far. Scott "Igor" Hinson

Next Austin HT Meet 3/22 at Sound Mind Audio!"

Hank: I have not been chained to the table saw. I've been chained to the computer running FFT's, measurements and writing stuff! Jeez, I wouldn't want you guys to think I have a one track mind! Scott

    Austin DIY HT Projects

I haven't done any absorption testing between the open cell mattress foam and dedicated acoustical foam, but they are different in feel. This requires some testing which I will try to do. For the towers though, I would go with a polyfill/acoustastuff mix with wall lining of acoustic foam. If...

    Next Austin meet - June/July?

I hate to use this forum for this, but...I will. ;-) Hank, could you send me an email, speakerscott@hotm**l.com (replace the ** with ai if you didn't get it...I try to avoid spam) Thanks! Scott (P.S. my friends and I re-wrote a bawdy song entitled "The Moose Song" to be a bawdier song...

    Time for another Austin meet!

Okay. Next time I'll just rent a van for all the stuff I brought. ;-) I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone. Thanks to Danny Ritchie for bringing lots of stuff as well! It was fun talking to you, I wish there was more time, but as co-host I was...

    Time for another Austin meet!

Hey Scott, Okay, let's see if I can answer all of these questions... 1. Yes, it may very well be necessary for people to bring a chair with them. Jonathan doesn't have all that many (and neither do I). 2. We will have several receivers, a Hafler TA-1100, and a Mackie M1400i at the very...

Do t-nuts and bolts create an airtight seal?

If the whole size for the T-nut is just larger than the t-nut insert pin (for lack of a better phrase) and there is pleanty of wood for the the T-nut to grab on to, then yes, it's pretty air-tite. When you seal the driver use the smallest stuff you can find from Home Depot or lowes...and stick...

    Time for another Austin meet!

Hey everybody, since this thread is getting lots of interest I’d thought I’d pipe in. Since I tend to keep myself more on the technical end, I’ll address the business stuff first. (Get it out of the way.) Anyone who has ever talked to me at my day job about audio knows I **love** to inform...

    Time for another Austin meet!

On-topic part of post: If it's moving to the 16'th at Jonathan's place that works very well for me as well. (Jonathan, can I bring some stuff over the day before...?) Besides the Peerless/Morel combo Jonathan was talking about, and is working on, I'll probably be bringing a Peerless/Morel...

    Time for another Austin meet!

Hello! Nope, I haven't been to one of your gatherings before. I have, however hosted a couple of gatherings at my place, a couple of years ago. I advertised them on the Madisound board and the bass list. Once the weekend is set, I'll be able to say for sure if I'm available. March 2'nd is...

    Twin Tempest Sonosubs.

I have run a twin Tempest system before. It provided for stunning quantity and quality of bass. At that time I had two tempests, each in ~6.5 cubic feet tuned to 18Hz with dual 3 inch aeroports. The amplifier for the setup was a Mackie FR-1400. Running my signal generator into the...

Has anyone thought of a group buy on a custom subwoofer?

This has been thought of before at other forums, such as the Madisound discussion forum and the Bass List mailing list. If I remember correctly the Shiva is a direct outgrowth of a Bass List move to get a custom driver made. There was a flurry of discussion and Dan Wiggins basically said...

    resources for building transistor amps

One of the better books I've found for the DIY'er is: High-Power Audio Amplifier Construction Manual by G. Randy Slone. It covers a whole lot of mistreated, misunderstood or even skipped topics in other books. It covers amplifier stability rather well, and without having to dig out all...
