Here's what I'm not understanding about the HDR spec- we need much brighter projectors than currently available to meet the nits requirement needed. The thing is, in my completely blacked out theater room with my JVC rs400 at -10 iris on a 131" wide 2.35:1 screen it can still be blindingly...
Wow, I haven't been on this forum in years, but have great memories of getting sucked into home theater and speaker/sub building here ages ago. I owe my entire home theater to this form... Just popped up in my email today, don't know why.
Anyway, I agree, I would wait a while before shelling...
Hi, Haven't been here in a long time! I was going to build a sub for a friend, and copy one I built a while ago. I'm using a first gen SVS 12" driver (very similar to the Shiva) and I had used the Adire white paper for the sub design, basically the mid-sized sealed box design. Adire is...
Felix, By the way, my IB is in, with 4 15" Dayton IB drivers in my little room. Pretty amazing. We'll have to do our Rochester sub adventure sometime. . . Wes
I have a Sony WEGA 27" TV and an Infocus 4805 running an 82" diagonal screen, both in a dedicated basement HT room. The TV is in one front diagonal corner. We don't watch a lot of TV, and what we do watch turned out to mostly be available on HD over cable. Needless to say, we haven't...
I have the OPPO. It does not have HDCP, so it will play on any display, whether the display is HDCP compliant or not. I have a 318, and it would lock up with my Infocus 4805 over DVI. The OPPO works great. Wes
No banding for me, either. Can you link to the avs thread? Maybe it's display dependant like the macroblocking problem. Wes ps I'm on a 4805 over component at 1080i
Hi, I have a 4805, and love it, but I don't think it's going to work for you. You really need to sit back 2x the screen width for the pixel structure to work, and also, it's not really a high enough resolution projector to do a ton of computer stuff. You need at least a 720p projector, but...
Mike, I have a 4805, running a HD DVR box from Time Warner. Granted the resolution on the 4805 is not 720p, but it's got such great contrast and colors, that it looks great. I can really tell whether a source is giving a good signal or not. That said, you will miss some resolution compared...
Kevin, I'm using the Stryke CD to generate tones as well, and don't have the Excel chops to change it around. Could I get you to post a link to your edited Excel sheet or email it to me? I'd like to see the response down to 12.5 hz, etc. Thanks! Wes Nance
We're here in the US! What would be your best price for all the 8529 and the 2 sets of plugs *shipped* to Rochester, NY (14625)? (In US $$) Too bad you can't slip them aboard the fast ferry! Thanks, Wes
John, Thanks for stopping in, and basically answering a lot of questions. These are really great looking drivers for the $$, and part of me wishes I'd waited on the Daytons, as these look so much cooler! Too one of the big points of an IB is that you don't see anything! Good to know that the...
Aaron, That's the question. These are premium level drivers, and I think would be a good deal at $199 each, so $100 each seems really cheap. You can see just by looking at the pic that it has the nice cast aluminum basket, instead of the stamped steel basket, etc. I'm going to post on the...
Hi, Here's a link to a run of 15" IB woofers John is doing with Lambda parts and motors. He's selling them for $199 each, but, if you get 4 or more, they are $99 each! I just finished my IB sub with 4 of the 15" Dayton IB's, wish I had waited around for these!
Hi, I couldn't help it, I hooked my new 4805 up tonight even though I don't have the right cables, and I'm projecting onto a grey paneled wall, so the picture has cool grooves in it. . . Watched regular cable Smallville recorded on my Time Warner DVR, and it seems like the audio/video sync...
ScottL, Let us know if that price is good. I remember seeing that price a while ago, but that deal's been gone for several weeks. If there's a new one out there, that's good to know, as that's a very good price. Also, I'm DIY my screen only as far as a frame goes- I'm buying the actual...
Howdy, After trying to keep up with the 250 page thread at AVS about the 4805 and reading up on it here, I was really thinking of getting one, but hadn't seen any modern projector at any resolution in person. Well, then I discovered that AVS is in Rochester, NY, which is where I live, and...
OK, I want to jump in here. I think I mostly understand what is being discussed. My question is whether or not this problem area in the crossover can simply be dealt with a parametric eq on the sub such as a Behringer 1124p. If I plotted my FR with the mains and sub on, couldn't I dial in...
Michael, Don't judge all full range drivers by BOSE experience. If you don't have a large, large room, and you're going to cross over to a sub at 80 or 90 hz anyway, there are some definite benefits to a good full range driver, like no crossover to deal with, superb imaging, etc. And there...
Get the CSS Shiva kit you've mentioned. That's a great deal for an easy to assemble kit, and will sound great. Start there for less $$ than the SVS, and then after you're totally hooked on a good subwoofer, start saving your $$ for one of the SVS heavy hitters. . . Wes
Hi, For half your budget, you can get something custom built in your choice of wood veneer that will blow away the BOSE. I haven't personally heard Gallos, so can't compare, but I've heard these little guys, and they sound great, especially if, as you say, you have a small to medium sized...
Steven, No 480i through component, only s-video and composite. I've got mine running on s-video to my Sony Wega 27"., waiting on an Infocus 4805 to use the 1080i. Wes
Hi, I'm also looking at getting a 4805, and notice that basically the projector mounting distance is more or less around 2x screen width, also the optimum minimum seating distance. So, do most of you have the projector right over your heads for the front row seating? I also have a low...
Yes, but for those of us who don't want to spend more than $175 or so on a dvd player, it fills a nice niche. To have the Zenith and an Infocus 4805 is a pretty nice setup for under $1700 for those on a tight budget. I'm happy if they fix the DVI, but I don't mind using component if it performs...
That's the same build info as mine. I thought it was interesting that the defaults were to have the dynamic range control on, and the voice karioke setting on as well. When I turned mine on, there was no sound, but got that straightened out soon enough. I was concerned for a second, though. I...
John, I got it today. Should have had it last Saturday, but they transposed 2 letters in my street name, so it got held up. I haven't hooked it up yet, and won't be able to test anything, really, as I just have a 27" WEGA set that's not even progressive scan. But, I'm planning on an...
Just FYI, I ordered and had a Zenith 318 shipped from Gochnauer's today, so they're still in stock. I'm hoping to pick up an Infocus 4805 at some point soon to use with it as well. Wes
