I was thinking MSRP of $1500 or less.
Looks to be a very limited choice of pre/pros at this point. It is hard to believe there is such a gap. I could buy a near top of the line Yamaha 3200 6.1 receiver or a Rotel 1066 for the same price. No wonder most people purchase receivers, they are...
Thanks for the feedback so far.
I just love the looks of the old tuners like the Pioneer TX-9500 and am trying to buy on on ebay. Unfortunetly most of them are too expensive for me to take the ebay "As is" gamble.
Regarding the noise problem Neville posted. How would one know, by looking at a 1066, if the problem was fixed. (if ever they do fix this problem.) Does Rotel use version numbers on the back of their pre/pros? If so, what are we currently at? Or maybe their are release dates on them?
I'd...
I have been interested in the older analog tuners such as Pioneer, Kenwood, or Sansui for roughly 77 - 82. Anyone using one now? How do you like it compared to current tuners?
All related in put on analog tuners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Has anyone compared today's digital FM tuners to the analog tuners of the early 80's? I'm only wondering about the reception performance and sound quality. Not too worried about the bells and whistles.
Thanks for your responses. Here is a more complete description of the room and equipment.
Room is 13 x 15 with speakers placed on the 13' wall. Speaker backs are about 2' out from front wall and 4' from each side wall. Speakers are floor standing Paradigm 60's and no sub is involved here...
It appears the the rear wall behind the listening postiion is producing a boomy bass. I intially moved my speakers (two hannel stereo) around trying to fix the problem but no matter where I put them, the boomy bass was still there. Finally I realized that if I moved my listen position away...

Jeff, I used a Denon 2800 for a month or so but thought it sounded really flat for music. I got rid of it. I then bought a Yamaha 995. This 995 was great for music and movies but after a couple of years I got rid of it because I wanted the new features, like DLP2, in the new Yamahas. I ended...
Thanks for the input guys. I think I am just going to get a higher end CD player for now and then get a DVD-A/SACD next year of so. We will see how the DVD-A/SACD war pans out.
For my home theater setup, if I use a 200 watts per channel amp to power the front left and right speakers and then a 100 watts per channel amp to power the center and rear channels, amp I going to have problems balancing the volume levels? I have no gain controls on the 200 watts per channel amp.
I'm moving from a receiver to separates and I will be puchasing a new CD player. I would however, like to buy something like the coming Pioneer Elite DV-47 since I could use the extra capabilities it has beyond playing just CDs. My concern is that I would be sacrificing musical quaility when...
Has anyone matched the B&K 5125 amp (or other B&K amps) with Paradigm studio speakers before? I am afraid it may be too bright sounding. I have used a rotel amp with the Paradigms and it sounds fine. Does the sound of the Rotel compare to the B&K?
I am trying to develop a list of stereo preamps that will all me to also connect my HT Receiver to it. I believe it is reffered to as a passive or HT pass-though option. Know of any preamps with this option?
So I went out with my Zepplin & Floyd cds and listened to a few speakers. Here is what I found.
Zepplin on Martin Logans ($3000 model) powered by a Rotel 1095 amp & Rotel pre sounded very clear and detailed but had a very sharp edge on Plants voice. It could be tough to take after a song or...
Here is one for ya. I have a pair of studio 60' powered by a 100 watt receiver. It sounded good but I felt it was missing something so I purchased a Rotel 1080 ($850 - $950, 200 watts x 2). I am impressed with this upgrade and I do not have buyers remorse. Gave the sound a whole new...
Thanks for all of the input. I'm going out today to listen to some speakers with some Zepplin, Floyd, Ozzy, and ... the Cranberrys. They all have some unique sonic qualities I'd like to review on various speakers.
Glad to see that I have awoken the Floyd beast in some.
If you had $1800 to purchase a pair of floor standing speakers to listen to Pink Floyd, Zepplin, & Alice in Chains, what would you buy? Room is 20 x 15.
I would like to move my subwoofer to the opposite end of the room away from my receiver. To do this, I would have to use a 40' LFE input cable. What is the maximum feasible length one should use for a LFE cable? Thanks.
The RXV-3200 manual is downloadable now from the international site. I printed it out as well to compare to the 2200. It looks like the only major change is to the amp section. I was hoping the preamp section was upgraded as well but I am not sure if it is.
In a attempt to determine if the new Yamaha RXV1200, 2200, & 3200 all used the same circuitry for the preamp section of their receivers, I called them and asked. They said that those three receivers are all the same but the amplifier section varies. I was thinking that the entire 3200 was a...
I see that power amps vary on the maximum amperage they put out to a speaker. How does a lower rating, say 45, compare to a higher rating such as 65 per channel? Is an amp that puts out more amperage better? Also, what would constitute a negligible difference? Thanks.
