WKRP In Cincinnati: The Complete Series Review (See Posts #218 & 356 for Info)

So, I've managed to create a version of The Contest Nobody Could Win with the second (more well-known) ending. It isn't great, but it's fine for an episode that isn't a favorite. I also created a version of Mike Fright with the full beginning (Who Listens to the Radio inserted) and Rock and...

WKRP In Cincinnati: The Complete Series Review (See Posts #218 & 356 for Info)

I have the counterfeit box set and the one shipped from Shout, and they both indicate a copyright date from Fox of 2001 on the box sets. Having this date is no indication it is legit or counterfeit. In fact, I would expect the writing on the counterfeit to be nearly the same.

With the dual layered box set now in my possession, I revisited this episode to see about making a second version with the alternate (and apparently more well-known) ending. After struggling with it for a few hours, I gave up. A combination of mediocre video editing skills and what appears to...

Regarding the aspect ratio issue with several Season 4 episodes, I should clarify what's happening. If I access the individual episode VOBs directly (*_01.VOB), the aspect ratio for 14 of the 22 Season 4 episodes is 16:9. If I pop the DVD into a Blu-Ray/DVD player and go through the DVD menus...

What you described with the cases is how I received them. Four years ago, I purchased (for cheap) the set with four DVD cases and the bonus DVD case (counterfeit). The set I received directly from Shout last week had two DVD cases. It's possible the counterfeits have resorted to the two DVD case...

Are you burning back to disc? I created MKV files for the stretched episodes where I am able to reset the aspect ratio to 4:3 without re-encoding. From a USB drive on our TV, these MKV files remain 4:3, and they remain 4:3 for every player on my PC (VLC, MPC-HC, WMP).

So, the box set came from Shout! today, taking only four days from order to delivery. With the new set in hand, here are some observations: The Good: The discs are indeed double-sided, so the single-sided set I purchased four years ago was counterfeit. The Mostly Good: The video is a touch...

I opted for the safe route and went with a Shout! purchase. I will be curious to see the video difference with the counterfeit box set. Not sure if they compressed the audio also with the counterfeits. Of course, free shipping will likely mean I won't see it for two weeks, so any episode...

That's how I could tell. So, the best place to purchase this box set is with Shout! Factory directly?

I thought it was on Amazon, but I can't find record of it. Regardless, it seems many have been duped by the counterfeits. Not much I can do about it now except not to make the same mistake again.

Side topic related to the recent posts about ordering the Shout! box set. I just received a response from Shout! that this box set has dual layered discs. We purchased our set four years ago, and we just recently started watching it. Yep, it has single layered discs!

I am assuming this is in reference to Get Off Of My Cloud. The only recording I've seen now (almost 9 years later) is the one on the Internet Archive, and the audio for that scene with the song is a bit of a mess. Rather unfortunate, because that song is needed for that scene.

It was bad enough to not have the rights to Pink Floyd. The song substitution was fine (if you didn't know about Pink Floyd). But to lose out on Carlson asking "What's the name of that orchestra?" was very disappointing but necessary without Pink Floyd playing (unless there was also a voiceover...

WKRP In Cincinnati: The Complete Series Review (See Posts #218 & 356 for Info)

I take back this statement. Based on what I have been able to locate the past couple of days, the older copies are pretty awful and/or truncated. Maybe someone has better copies and/or better video editing skills (the latter is certainly a given). I'm actually of the mind that I wished I hadn't...

I recently started watching the WKRP boxset by Shout! Factory. It was actually purchased about three years ago, but I am just now getting to it. I think my experience with the Fox release of WKRP Season 1 DVD pretty much turned me off to the series for quite some time. A combination of...

In an HT system, you don't HAVE to use a center channel *or* a subwoofer

You definitely are a candidate for a center speaker for movies. For myself, I can sit at either end of our couch (5' wide seating area), and I still get a rock-solid stereo image pinned midway between the mains. It is because of this that I keep going back and forth between using the center...

    M&K 350 vs SVS PB12

Phil, Thanks for the response. I am sorry I deleted my post, but after reviewing some of the recent threads on the Speakers and Subwoofers forum, I felt like I may have been hijacking what is an M&K/SVS thread. I haven't been posting on HTF much in recent months, and I was kind of...

    ACI Maestro...

Mike, Would you still see a benefit of moving from one (or two) Titan II LEs to the Maestro if you don't watch movies at reference level or listen to music at rock concert levels? In our case, on average that would be about 8-10dB lower than reference level. Michael

How to bottom a SV Sub.

There are some prepros that have password protection for the setup menus, I own one (Anthem AVM-20). I don't use the feature myself, but I am certain it would restrict adjustment of any setting requiring the user to enter the setup menu. What I am not certain of is if it would prevent the...

    ACI Maestro...

It sounds like your rare appearance on HTF is going to cost you! :D Seriously, for a room of your size, you could use more UMPH. Our room is 22x14, and we give our two Titan II LEs (now placed side by side instead of one in front and one in back) a serious workout during music and movies...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

My apologies to everyone for bringing up the topic of TV calibrating and video switching. My purpose was not to rain on Anthem's parade. I am still impressed to this day that they still try very hard to provide value to their customers and succeed quite often. With the purchase of a new TV...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

I can understand the appeal of video switching in a HT prepro or receiver (less wire clutter, easier to use for non-HT family members, etc.). But what about calibrating your TV (or projector) for each individual video source? By going through a video switcher (be it external or in a HT prepro or...

I only watch DVDs - SD or HD tube?

    A 34" 16:9 TV will produce a 27.8" 4:3 image, smaller than his 32" TV. To produce a 32" 4:3 image, you would need a 39.2" 16:9 TV. Michael

CRT, DLP, LCD, D-ILA-- Pros & Cons, for the record!!!

I agree, the black level and shadow detail on these TVs have improved quite a bit. But I would also agree that LCD RPTVs still have the "worst" black level of any of the technologies, it is just that the gap is much smaller with the TVs you mentioned. Michael

LCOS HDTV Technology - any good??

Are you sure about this? I could have sworn I saw rainbows on the JVC D-ILA. Then again, I was seeing rainbows on a handful of DLP RPTVs in the same store, so maybe my brain was still flashing them when I looked at the JVC. Michael

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

Before we venture off into the land of DVD players in the Audio/Video Sources forum, I thought I would ask the opinion of Anthem owners. We currently have a 5 year old Onkyo Integra DPS-5 single disc player, but with the pending purchase of our first HDTV (probably a 50-55" DLP or LCD RPTV), we...
